Japanese language study group. Starting July 19.
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:40:02 AM »
I remember a couple of years ago I joined a study group  to try and learn Japanese on here, but sadly it didn't last long. Would anyone be keen on trying it again? I wouldn't know where to start though. I'd love to learn Japanese.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay guys, since there has been plenty of interest in this I think it's time make a date and get started.
The awesome Pony Magic has figured out everything that we would need to do.
Quote from Pony Magick
What we've worked out:
Group together by similar timezones about once (or more) a month for a study group through Skype.
Try and get together as a whole once a month (+/-) for a study group through skype (factoring in time zones etc)
Go from the same text book (really this should be a given)
Somehow work through a few lessons a week with each other through the thread (I think it'll be easier than PMs to mulitiple people and 1-2 lessons mean that it gives people time to work on things and get help if needed).
Because it's a living language we really need to get practice speaking to others and such so I think that skype groups are a very good idea.
I'm thinking that a good date to start would be either the 19th of July that way we can work everything out I'll update the info on this page as we confirm everything.
So who's joining us?
I'd be up for it!  I'm going to take Japanese in college next year, and I was actually thinking that it would be nice to go into it knowing some of the basics.
Man, learning a new language can be difficult if its not similar to what you already know.
Goodluck!
I'd be interested.  How was the last study group run?
Sounds interesting, but how does it work? I've never been a part of a study group before (online, at least) :P
I remember that group! Wow, it really died out didn't it?
I took 2 semesters of Japanese in college. I'm very rusty now but can still read/understand simpler stuff. I've been wanting to get back into it. A community college near me was offering classes but it seems like they are cancelled now as I can't find it on the schedule anymore.
I have an older version of Rosetta Stone but I haven't put it on my new laptop yet.
Has anyone bought a TextFugu subscription? I was thinking of doing that. I've been following Tofugu on Youtube and FB for years now for the interesting articles.
I'd totally love to try a study group again. I can't remember what site the study group was run though before, can you Princess-Sparkles?
If anyone has recommendations for study materials too I'd love to hear them. I really think taking a class is my personal best method of learning but I'm always open to supplemental material. (I used the Genki textbooks when I was in school.)
I can't remember what program it was, I just remember that it didn't cooperate with me so I gave up. If anyone has anyone suggestions feel free to let us know. I'm too poor at the moment to take proper classes. (As much as I'd love to)
Funny you should post this, I've just started taking evening classes once a week for 2hrs. We just use handouts that the teacher has made up but so far it's going well. I'll look through them and my notes in the weekend and see if there are any good links I can share.
I'm semi-fluent in Japanese but would be interested in joining to keep my language skills sharp! I can read very well but my speaking is stilted.
i got a major in japanese back in the day. i'd love to join and help any way i can.
i've found the best study books to be genki.
we could do a study group and maybe a once a week skype session?
just to work on listening and speaking skills.
if there are different level, we could have multiple study groups.
i wouldn't mind helping start up the beginner one. i used to teach in Japan, so i've got an idea of where to start.
hmmm though i'm not really sure how a study group work.
probably be more helpful with an informal class kinda thing. etc.
either way. sound cool.
A study group would be wonderful! It'd vastly help the two years of study I barely keep alive with subtitled anime.
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^
I'm making custom cute pony plushies and have set up an Etsy store called Ponies A'More! Ponies + More + LOVE! :heart: :inlove: :heart:
Finally got my SALES thread up and update it as I can.  :satisfied:
Lastly, posting my Wishlist here!  :biggrin:
