Pony Corral / Re: Your favorite boy pony

Oh man it's so hard to choose! The Mountain boys are so pretty but the Big Brothers have such cute accessories.

I really do love a mint Tornado though. I had ones with original pink hair and some factory curl.  He was so pretty, but I love Sunbursts bright colours and Chief all decked out.

Pony Corral / Re: Soo..What got you into ponies? (Story post)

I had ponies as a kid but they got packed up over the years.  I did remember playing ponies with my sister a lot and it's funny how ones I thought were ugly as a kid I love now, like Twist.

What got my into collecting was purchasing my very first pony from Ebay in Spring 2000. An Up Up and Away with faded white hair for $3.  I still remember how fun it was to get her in the mail.  From there I started reading up on them and hit up a local flea market in search of them.  That was my best pony hunting summer often coming home every Sunday with a few.  I met some local toy/pony collectors and still keep in touch today.

and the story continues....  Sadly after that summer it became much harder to find ponies especially after the G3's came out but I kept up the hunt for years and of course buying on Ebay.  I would sell some to help feed the addiction and immediately spend the money on more. After a house fire that damaged a lot of my collection it sort of spiraled out of control trying to replace what I lost and more.  At one point I had over 100 MOC's and a couple thousand ponies.  Sadly I sold most my MOC collection to put the downpayment on my house.  I don't regret the decision but sometimes I look at my old collection pictures and have a moment of "omg how did I ever let that pony go!!" lol  From there I disapeared off the boards..busy with life and resisting temptation.

Going to the pony fair in 2011 sort of renewed my love and I bought a few here and there and got into the FIM series.

I quit collecting for years, but now I have a special bin where I keep my must haves and favourites.  Some of them are even quite common but I always loved them.  I think some day they may suck me back in :)

Pony Corral / Re: Is there still much interest in Giant Plushie Patterns?

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I didn't realize so many people still wanted them.

I have a couple traced right now ready to mail out but then I'm leaving Saturday for a week to visit family on my spring break so I won't be able to take the pattern with me.  When I get back I'll post a thread in the sales forum for them.  If you know you definitely want one you can send me a pm and I'll make a list.  Shipping looks to be about $3 in Canada and $7.80 to the US.  International is $15.20 but I should be able to send two for this price so if you have a local buddy that wants to pair up to save on shipping that should work out better.

I'll take that as a yes then lol.  I have 6 rolls of paper here to start tracing them out.  I have to rewrite out my original instructions since I lost my digital file.  This is my third computer since I originally made them.

I know I pm'd a couple people that had contacted me in the past.

Ohhh me me me! I would love a pattern please :D
Are the paper patterns? Or are they available in digital too
:)

They're paper patterns.  I'm not sure how you would be able to get the right scape digitally.  They really are huge...about 12' of brown crafting/shipping paper and the pony they make is the same scale as the giant hasbro plushies, about 3' tall.  They take about 3 yards of faux fur and about three packages of hair.  I used jumbo braid just because It comes in large quantity for affordable prices, although the gusty was made with nylon hair which cost a small fortune and tangled easily because of the sheer volume and length.  I've seen some people use yarn too.  :)

I've gotten quite a few messages over the years about my giant plushie patterns but I haven't been around much to be able to sell them.  Tonight I dug out my pattern from storage to create a few to sell to those still looking.  They would be $15 plus shipping.  I'm just checking to get a gage on how many people want to order one.  :)

here's a pic of some I made in the past:

That was so great of you to take them in.  My first foster kittens were about that size and 4 weeks old when I got them.  They were dumped outside the shelter I work at in a box in winter.  Sadly it's a something that happens often.

Thankfully the ones you should have should only need bottle fed/milk for another week or two if they're eating on their own.  One of the fosters from my shelter who has raised tons of kittens from just days old mixes in egg yoke into the formula to give it more protein.  She swears by it and her kittens were always healthy and plump.

Goodluck with them. Hopefully we can see pics as they grow.  Four-six weeks is my favourite age...they're just starting to walk and play but they're so tiny and clumsy. It's adorable.

What a fun topic.  Everyone's rescue pets are so adorable.  I think they really do know when you rescue them and appreciate you all that much more.

After a year and a half of working at an animal shelter I finally caved and adopted this boy my Irish Wolfhound/St. Bernard mix.  He was found as a stray in Montreal at six months old and ended up in a kill pound where he ended up sick with pnemonia.  They were a very good pound though and treat dogs where they can and try to transfer them when their time is up so this guy ended up coming to my shelter when he was almost better.  He was 70 lbs then.  Now he's just under 115 lbs and turned two this month.  Giants are great dogs and he'll go with me for a two walk if I want to but he's happy with 30 minutes or just lounging around the house when I don't have time.

Did I mention he loves kitties?  Here's him with a couple foster kittens I had.  Sadly my kitty has to be put down in November and I don't think it's fair to get another cat at the moment b/c my bf's dog is extremely cat agressive and prey driven.  So until I work on him no kitties for me but I'd really like to adopt siblings from a shelter when I'm ready.

And inspired by Gryphon I've started a business creating pop art of peoples pets. Here's one I did of Gryphon wearing his bumble bee costume last month.

Pony Corral / Re: Has anyone ever tried to stop collecting?
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:59:01 AM »
I was pretty obsessive and had a big collection until we had a house fire about 6-7 years ago. A few really rare ones that I had just got in the mail and were on my computer desk melted, about half my moc collection had smoke damage so bad they had to be decarded if they even survived, and various other casualties.  During the process of sorting out the insurance stuff I went on a bit of a buying spree to deal with things but when i got the remains of my collection back the restore company that was supposed to clean the ponies that didn't get damaged beyond repair, and make sure they didn't get smoke damage from the smoke seeping in made an absolute mess.  Accessories were everywhere, the manes were a frizzy mess and they all had this chemical smell.  Some of them were packed in baggies with water still inside causing tail rust. We're talking about 1000 ponies.  I was so disheartened and frustrated with the whole thing that I started selling off my entire collection after having to thoroughly try to clean them all and soften/defrizz the hair.

still have a couple hundred left to go through, but being at the pony fair last year really made me excited about ponies again.  I bought a bunch of pony art and have been peeking at ponies here and on ebay from time to time. I've watched all the FIM episodes and I've come close to buying a few here and there but I've held out so far. I've been looking to replace a few rares I'm sad about selling.

I have a couple small bins of about 40 ponies that I really love or that have sentimental value to me that I had planned on keeping regardless.  I'll probably sell of my last few MOCs though.
