Pony Corral / Re: How do summer/windy wing ponies lose their wings?
« on: September 29, 2023, 11:42:26 PM »
They can be cut off with scissors.
I found (long ago of course) a no wings high flyer and then a barbie dress with her wings taped to it with packing tape. They cut them off the pony to give them to barbie, then threw the whole lot into a cardboard box for the flea market.
I also agree with Pinkkittywinks that many of them were surely gnawed off. Blunt human teeth leave very certain marks on things and I've found several that had been chewed on quite a bit at the tips, and a few at the base. When kids didn't have a tablet, did they just chew everything like dogs? (Barbie says 'maybe')

Pony Corral / Re: Best way to de-yellow this baby blossom?
« on: September 10, 2023, 12:24:59 AM »
Rehairing's not so bad either, and a baby pony is a good way to start your practice with it.
Not too many hair holes so it doesn't take forever to finish or see progress. It's also a pretty cheap hobby to start with low cost supplies and tools. (Like the needle is a dollar most places, etc) If we can post videos I have a 'get started' one at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey1K8ysfXp8&t=270s that shows baby Dangle and all the things needed to do the rehair. (Someone had shaved her much like your Blossom)

The first new characters in so many years!
I am SUPER thrilled at Basic Fun's latest release, even if it doesn't seem to be exactly what the stock art/Hasbro originally intended for this set. The art made the ponies seem like their plastic was marbleized like those 'hi-bounce' balls, or like paper marbling or something like that. The art of the hair was dubious about it having tinsel or not (it seemed to suggest they did) but it was at least glow n show type of length. (These Celestials are lovely, but their hair is normal length and no tinsel at all) However, none of this should slow them down any: they are still amazing and I am mega excited to have them all and be able to buy them for my out of country friends too so everyone can have them.

But, now that I have several of each character in the house, it came to attention that what they're doing is stamping the swirls on. It seems kind of likely that they're using whatever method the Flower Fantasy ponies used in their day. This is probably ALSO why BF WAS planning to do the Flower Fantasy ponies and then pulled a switcheroo last minute for these guys because new characters are more exciting. (And also the success of the petition of letter writing that took place here at the Arena and also FB & etc years ago) The FF technology was already there, they just switched it to swirls.

What might the device look like?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD2DNSt8Wb4
This youtube video has the wibbly wobbly stamper machine shown that goes on curved, possibly pony surfaces. (Imagine a pony size one of that thing, not big for bowl like it shows here) It's satisfyingly squishy to watch it go. Of course, I don't know for sure what they're doing, but I suspect it and here goes some photos.

Here are 2 of her that clearly have the same stamp.
It does not apply identically every time, but look at the 'hallmarks' of it, as in red marked on the photos. You can see how the stamper distorts a bit depending on where the pony is when it's done. The leg has the same '2 blob arch', the 'jog' next to the lower heart, the 90 degree left turn at the symbol, the 'wide' in the middle.

*The dotted line area is where she took a hit obviously, there's a yellow pale scuff there where there's a 'hole' in the lines. They weren't careful with her at the factory, either that or the swirls are made of delicate paint which would be sad.

But my third one looks like this

(The rest of mine have yet to arrive from Amazon)
Notice how her body AND head pattern are completely different from the first 2.

So what are the questions/how can help?
There's a finite number of this pattern stamper. How many patterns do they have?
There will be the same amount for heads & bodies.
Did they match the right pattern heads with the right matching pattern bodies? (No, the 2 above have the same body but their heads are wildly different)
Can you post a photo of your one of her with a body type that is NOT one of the 2 pictured here?

It will be very interesting to see how many different ones of each that there are.
Will "variant collectors" collect all the variations?
Will people start switching their heads to match them?

Pony Corral / Make G1 Pony Waffles! Waffle Iron Appears
« on: June 03, 2023, 12:57:59 AM »
Do you like waffles?
There's a pony waffler! And it's G1! The outside is really cute and it makes a pony face on every waffle.

https://uncannybrands.com/products/my-little-pony-mini-waffle-maker?pr_prod_strat=use_description&pr_rec_id=6d208f131&pr_rec_pid=7484038447304&pr_ref_pid=7478415917256&pr_seq=uniform

Anybody can have it, because it is at that website, also Target, Walmart and even Amazon. UncannyBrands apparently does tons of licensed things on a waffle iron so somehow they got G1 ponies too. I love mlp themed foods (like I'd love to have a new cake pan or something) so this waffler is a must-get for me.

Pony Corral / Finally a Combing Hair Danny Doll (MOC) Is Made!
« on: March 15, 2023, 01:35:57 AM »
Been looking for a Danny doll to go with the ponies?
Wish they'd made him MOC back in the day? Well have I got a 'deal' for you...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Wait, this isn't the right Danny!
(It's Uncle Machete from Sharkboy & Lavagirl movie--comb is his machete!) And he's even scented: "smells like tacos"
Found this and thought it was good for a laugh at least.

(He's a combination of a vinyl troll doll body & a figure head given hair, with custom clothes by artist KVNorlly)
They should have put this up for April Fools Day

Pony Corral / Baby Pony Rockers Accessories: They're Real? Video Proof
« on: February 05, 2023, 01:06:29 AM »
I always thought those pony rockers for the baby ponies were a cute idea.
It lets her be like 'a little rocking horse' because after all...they are already a horse so don't need to sit on one in order to go rocking. It was a clever accessory to add as it really did work/rock the pony and let you play with anyone who fit on there.

I didn't think it was based on a real thing though!
That like...these rockers existed for actual horses and ponies and that they seem to actually like riding them? I mean, I do think that all the farm animals who play with the ball, the rope, the toy and such really do like it, so having this tilting thing would probably also be fun. Sure it's not dressed up/cute like the MLP one but it is going exactly the same for large and small with this video:

https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/10tglpl/actual_rocking_horses/

Do you think they were always invented, and MLP made their own, or is this a recent thing after 1982? I don't live/never near any farms so it's nothing I'd know about but I saw the video and had to at least share that it's a real thing.

Back with the business news...
There's some good news for Toys R Us this year in that Macys agreed to let them have a seasonal store in EVERY Macys because (apparently) when they tested it last year or something it did well. TRU opened up that 1 like 'flagship' store in Mall of America but really everyone can't be expected to be near it or go to it or anything...but most people at least know where a Macys is in their town and can go.

But don't go yet because it only starts on October 15th and runs thru the holidays.
They say the TRU areas will be pretty big too, so it's not like going for some dinky shelf either.

https://www.mytotalretail.com/article/macys-and-toysrus-expand-store-in-store-partnership-for-the-holidays/#ne=0065d23431c01fcbd798f468b360e9ac&utm_source=total-retail-report&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=2022-07-20

I guess they seem to feel this is a 'return toward brick and mortar' for them, which is great for nostalgia and their supposed new focus which is "just toys & areas to play with it" instead of when they were trying to be a catch-all with boring non-toy stuff too.

But are there ponies?
Yes, they'll have G5 for sure and probably 4.5 if their website is any indication.

The "Just toys" angle is important because they'd mentioned earlier carrying toys from the non-giant brands too, and also not just chasing fads alone---which means a good possible outlet for Basic Fun to get back into retail where you'd expected it to be (unlike expecting ponies in restaurant Cracker Barrel of all the odd things...) Hopefully this is good news for the holiday season and they do really well and get encouraged because I would love to find pony in the toy aisle of an actual toy store again.

Customs / Re: Share your alternate rehairs
« on: January 16, 2022, 07:49:13 PM »
Cupcake is absolutely fascinating!
The color choices are very interesting and they change her whole entire theme/look around but they are also....very fitting and look like something that Hasbro would have chosen in another timeline or something? I have never seen her Althaired with that theme, but it is so appropriate with her symbol.

Pony Corral / Re: MLP Baby Meadowsweet rehair
« on: January 04, 2022, 06:36:19 PM »
This is really tough.
As someone who has tried to dye hair in thin horizontals before, it's actually even harder than it looks. When you look to do a commission, you'll need someone with a real proven track record. The problem is because the color strips are so thin and tiny as dye 'creeps' along the hair shaft more than you want it to while it's going onto the hair. Bigger/wider stripes are easier but because these 'family ponies' all have thin strips it's rough to do.
I always wondered if their odd textured hair had something to do with it. All them that are from the families have slightly textured hair that's not normal like everyone else so maybe that somehow kept it in place. The exception to the rule being dabble/scribble who's hair is striped but normally textured.

Pony Corral / Professional Artist Fan Art Spotting: Calendar & Art Book
« on: January 04, 2022, 06:29:35 PM »
Recently I have spotted some professional/published artists doing some MLP fan art and thought it was interesting.

First off a more sneaky-sneaky is the "Unicorns by Rose Kahn" calendar over at Amazon. (I was shopping)
If you look at the cover it's obviously Starlite from rainbow bright. But then when you look at the back/months area there's clearly Twilight, Fluttershy, AJ and etc. with Celestia and Luna at the bottom. I guess this one's getting away with it because they are so 'stylized'.

Then, there's Camilla D'Errico who does 'kawaii' Japan style cutie mermaid and big-eye stuff fantasy art.
There are a few books by her that turn up for education or coloring book type in Michaels arts store. But when you flip through them...you can find stuff where it's CLEARLY G1, G4 and even G3 characters appearing. (You do have to look in the book though you can't just google image search it up probably because they don't want those potentially copyrighted things to be seen willynilly internet style)

So what's the deal?
I thought fan art wasn't allowed to be compiled, published and sold in big box stores? Companies put up with it at conventions and things because that's just local people doing stuff. Does that mean we can do it now? I would always have loved to work on a g1 coloring book for adults where the coloring would be very detailed and beautiful.

If you've seen any of these, what do you think?

Customs / Re: Looking for similar hair texture to that one site...?
« on: January 04, 2022, 01:45:08 PM »
There's also HQHair from HQG1C , (disclaimer: I'm on the team) but it does not have a super wide range of colors yet. It does have a good amount of hair for a low price though if it was something you wanted to just test out to see how the feel is. It is my opinion that most of the colors are exactly the same except for the...candy apple red (Or whatever they were calling baby Krispy Christmas color) curl equivalent which is polypropylene instead of nylon.

(Also, didn't the DH issue resolve when the owner passed away of cancer and now it is in the hands of someone completely else?)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Dream Ella Unicorns?
« on: January 03, 2022, 12:20:18 AM »
These are GREAT!
I have no idea who Dream Ella is but if her unicorns look like this, sign it up for more! There are actually 3 of these Purple, Pink and Aqua. They are REALLY quality for the price to pay, so grab them at Amazon fast.

Apple Spice is right, they are the Bratz unicorn, but with no slot for the odd little butterfly wings and the eye changed away from that very long and leering one the Bratz had. The horn doesn't glow (Like it used to) it is instead covered in glitter. The plastic of the horse may be a little bit lighter but the hair is actually a better quality. I think all the original BH's used kanekalon and this feels more like a nylon. They have a fabulous amount of hair too, like...IDK where they're getting this size of horse and quality of everything for such a low cost. Like I dont see how 10 to 13 dollars for amazing hair on a huge unicorn and then like...what G5 is doing.

I would recommend these if you have the space. They're taller than (I think) the Monter High horse and taller of course than Barbie's. I also want to try customizing one if I can snag an extra.

I just bought them! So excited! Aaaa!
RedFive Toys decided to have them online, I guess? AND they were the only one to have all 4 of them in stock.
GRAB EM NOW

Shipping for them was about 5 bucks which is SUPER reasonable in my opinion. I paid like 64.86 for the whole set (everywhere seems to have them between 13 and 15 dollars, but people with 13 are always out of 1 or more of them which would make you buy from several places to get them all and have to keep paying shipping so it didn't make sense to save 2 dollars on product price then spend 4 more to get shipped from all over)

Ellington toys (as of xmas eve) and Love of Character are both missing 1 of the set so you can't buy them all at once in either spot. Good for if you scored a few at cracker barrel, but couldn't complete them.
I don't even care, I was basically so relieved that now it's not some 25-dollar ebay scalpin' anti-deal
If I am the first to get the RedFive toy ones I will post here about how they came/good shipping or whatever details.
Thank you for posting this! Aaa!

Ellington Agway Warning:
I went there SO FAST to add 6 of them to the cart. When it's "randomized" like how Paper Source was doing for the Posey set, you have to add 6 and buy them so you are guaranteed to get 1 of each character and then 2 of two of them to sell off or give as gifts or to do loose/mib both collecting.
BUT
They're ONLY shipping to their local store area now which is really dumb? They'll let you almost buy it then tell you have to pick them up in the zipcode Ellington Connecticut but like....this is FL. So I guess I'm not allowed to buy them. Im going to email them asking when that 'well we dont ship it' will possibly end because 9.99 is amazing for these
