How to remove tissue paper from a custom
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:10:44 AM »
Hey everyone!
I recently won a beautiful Sweet Tooth custom on eBay!
Today she arrived but she has a big problem.

The seller packed her in tissue paper and guess what?
When I took her out it was stuck on her!

Is there a way so remove it from her without damaging her?

Thanks!

Stuck on her!?!?! In what way glued or stuck in another way? Was it stuck in her body if you removed the head? :enthralled:

No, the custom was wrapped/packed in tissue paper; around her body.
Her body got sticky, so I guess it was the sealer

Oh! Is the area that its stuck to a cutie mark or an area with paint or has she sprayed sealer on the custom? These type of stuff sometimes get sticky! :what:

I had that happen to one custom I commissioned. Her sealer failed and she got sticky. One day I was trying to clean her up a bit and used a tissue and bits of the tissue got stuck to her. I never did figure out how to get the tissue off. I hope someone is able to help.

I'd let the seller know first thing!  :(

I would guess that if the tissue paper was a bit damp it may come off with very very very gentle scraping.

Have you tried wetting it with a damp sponge? That might be enough to break it away

Eeep :(

I had this happen to a custom I made :( I asked the guy who commissioned her to send her back to me.

I stripped the custom and started again. I've still no idea what went wrong and why she went sticky, she wasn't sticky when I shipped her.

I'd drop the seller a line :)

Eh- sometimes they go sticky.  I have a LOT of customs from a lot of artists over a long period of time- and plenty have gone sticky.

I just carefully pull the tissue paper off- if there is any still stuck, I wet it.  It usually comes off.  I don't think there is much you can do about the stickiness though- I think it is the type of sealer they chose, or the interaction between the seal and the paint.

The pony isn't sticky anymore, she probably was during her travel :( maybe she got hot or something.

If I use water, won't it damage the paint? I'm not sure what kind of paint the seller/artist used.

Thank you all for your help ^^

Don't use hot water, use cold water.  Don't use soap and don't scrub.

The paint which I'm sure is acrylic should be just fine.

Thanks Galactica :D

I send the seller a message and she was very nice and understanding, she send me this back:

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know. Sorry she was damaged! I had just started using those mailers & was a little worried they might not be good for ponies. I'll use boxes from now on.

If you take a warm damp cloth & very gently wipe her the tissue should come off without harming the paint. And her legs can be re-shaped, but it might take a few tries. If you gently bend them back to how they should be & keep doing that a few times every day in a few days she should be in her normal shape.
