Title: Do your scented ponies still have their scent?
Post by: skywlshes on February 26, 2019, 08:37:11 AM
Do your scented ponies still have their scent (all gens) ?
I've read from a MIB seller (G3) that the ponies they own don't have their scents anymore, or barely. On another hand, I have loose Coconut Grove and Tangerine Sunset, who went through a fire and an ozone treatment and being locked inside a toy box for over 10 years...and they STILL smell like coconut and orange.
What about G1, too? Did they loose their scent? I'm curious!

I don't think any of mine do, but I don't have them in any container, just out on the shelf. And all of mine are second-hand. I wonder if some time-out will bring some smell back?

For most of them, nope!  Especially not G1s.  Time . . .

The scented G1 I have which are second hand still have their scent. Some more than others. But you can tell.

Most of mine do. I had to sell Coconut Grove because I couldn't stand it any more :/ I will get one one day when I find one who has lost her scent.

My Peppermint Crunch came to me as a chain smoker. She was a carboot find and she stank of cigarettes. Now she doesn't smell of that any more, as 20+ years have passed, but she doesn't really have much of her proper scent left. She maybe smells faintly of toothpaste? Is that normal or has she just switched her habit to tooth cleaning products behind my back?

The worst are Chocolate Chip (Coco Berry) and Butter Kiss (Swirly Whirly). Mostly the first of those. I don't know how to describe it. It's just bad. Butter Kiss smells to me like rotten apples mixed with that kind of cheap air freshener you get in changing rooms at schools or in public toilets xD. Of the rest of that set, my Sorbet Surprise (Sherbet) still smells but she is coconutty and it isn't too bad.

I think my Sweetberries have lost scent the most, except my childhood Cherry Treats who is not as strong as she was when I first had her but still scented. I have HK and China versions on a couple and neither one still smells. But my HK Cherry Treats and my childhood China ones both still smell...so maybe it's specific to the ponies concerned. I think the only other still scented Sweetberry I have is Strawberry Surprise...

I love the Perfume Puffs. I think all mine have scent still but it mostly is in their hair rather than their bodies.

All the scented G3 I have are still very scented. Though I parted with many of them...for that reason.

Also, I have learned that shutting them away in a confined space is not great if you want them to lose the scent. I once had a box of ponies shipped from the US with Butter Kiss in it. Oh boy, the smell when I opened the box *dies*

Yep, most of them do. I can't be sure which ones and I can't access them right now but yes, most of them still smell lovely!

I have a Majesty that is the brownest, mankiest, nastiest looking pony ever but I keep her because she smells like a fresh-off-the-card G1.  She's hidden behind some risers so I can enjoy her stank without seeing her.

My Perfume Puffs smell like old lady perfume.

What's second hand?

Secondhand means you picked it up 'used', like at a garage sale or a thrift store. :)

^ Yep! And I just got home and gave my G1s a sniff. I detect no smell on Banana Surprise, but my Raspberry Jam has a slight sweet scent to her. It's kind of nice, but if it were any stronger I think I'd be very opposed.

My Coconut Grove still has hers, though it's definitely not as strong as it was when I first thrifted her back in 2011/2012. But it's still there. Caramel Crunch still has hers, again not as strong as it was when I got her, but it's still pretty noticeable if you put her up to your nose. The rest of mine, both G1 and G3, no longer have theirs, just those two.

I don't think any of mine do, but I don't have them in any container, just out on the shelf. And all of mine are second-hand. I wonder if some time-out will bring some smell back?

Yep, purchasing it from someone else, too. Basically anything where someone else owned it before you did!

I have 2 Peppermint Crunches that smell faintly minty. Other than that, my other scented G1s just smell sweet.

One whiff of my childhood Peppermint Crunch and Cocoberry and I am right back playing with them as a kid again. Their smell is remarkably strong and exactly as I remember them.

Other scented G1s in my collection are mixed - most have their scent, but some are fainter than others. My perfume puffs all smell divine. I could bury my nose in them and stay there all day, lol!

Mine still smell. The G3's both pre-loved and new, although the new smell the strongest. My G1 Swirly Whirly I acquired pre-loved last year from a collectible shop and it also smells.

Mine don't...I don't think? My sense of smell isn't very sensitive, so maybe mine could still be slightly fragrant but all I notice is, "Oooh, lovely pony smell!"

Or maybe they're simply aired out old toys?

Most likely they all smell like the coconut shampoo I clean them with.

My Cherry Treats still has quite a strong scent and I like it. I'm not sure she smells like cherries exactly, but it's not an unpleasant scent. I also have a G3 Thistle Whistle who smells of coconut!

Yes! Both the g3 sets are scented, the sunny scent ones (originals) are the strongest, the best friends ponies have less strong scents but they’re still there. Party cake is the strongest I’d say.

Out of my scented g1s, caramel crunch and raspberry jam still smell lovely! Lavender Lace smells flowery so I’m guessing that’s her scent? She definitely doesn’t smell old like the others that came with her

All my scented G1's still smell, not that it's overpowering when you walk into a room, but still pleasant. Red Roses in her box, reeeeeeeks. lol.

My G1 Crunch Berry and Caramel Crunch are both still slightly scented, and my G3 Coconut Grove and Strawberry Surprise a little more. My G1 Swirly Whirly and G3 Citrus Sweetheart have both lost their scents although I've been thinking of ways to try and bring it back.

My Coco Berry/Chocolate Chip still smells. My Party Cake was a gift from a friend and she still smells. I have a Sherbet that was also a gift and she smells just like a regular pony. Is Coconut Cream a scented pony? If so mine doesn't smell anymore.

I haven’t checked my G3’s in a while but my Blueberry Baskets that I had to decard because her card was molding, she still smells.  In fact, she is what I smell now when I go into my pony room.  I like it.

Last I checked most of mine still do!

The Sweetberries have faded the most. The Sundae Best and Candy Cane mostly still smell pretty good. It's all over the place for my Perfume Puffs.

I have a lovely smelling Strawberry Surprise from G1 and a few G3s that still have a mild scent.  I imagine the G1 managed to keep its smell so long because of how heavily scented they originally were.  :P

I just bought 2 G3 Butter Pops, one NRFB, and neither has their popcorn scent. :( (I bought two because one is a gift for a friend.)

I believe my only scented pony is Citrus Sweetheart, and she still smells nice! I got her from someone on this site, so they must have taken good care of her.

I also have one of the 35th anniversary scented ponies and I do not like how she smells...
