Title: FIM episode The Washouts
Post by: Ponyfan on September 09, 2018, 02:33:45 PM
Hi.

I've missed the FIM discussion threads.  :)  I saw this episode today. Overall I liked it. I've been waiting to see Lighting Dust reappear since Wonderbolt Academy.

Spoiler
I was hoping she might have changed but it's obvious she still isn't above putting unwilling ponies in danger. I knew the leader  had to be Lightning Dust as soon as Rolling Thunder and Short Fuse said there were wash outs from the Wonderbolts and when I saw her tail that just confirmed it was her before she took her helmet off.

I enjoyed seeing Spitfire again although she seemed really intense this time.

I thought it was nice to see Scootaloo grow enough to start finding other ponies outside Rainbow Dash to look up to.  Unfortunate that in this case they turned out to be not great choices.

I'd love to see a  moral along the lines of "sometimes people change", although this moral was nice, too. I think it was one of the better episodes this season, although I wish RD had learned to put up with Scoot's likes changing.

Spoiler
I thought at first the moral might be about Rainbow Dash learning to trust Lightning Dust had changed and that she was ready to prove to Rainbow Dash that she wasn’t the same reckless pony. I was actually dissapointed in Lightning Dust for trying to force Scootaloo to try the extreme stunt even though Scootaloo was frightened and changed her mind.

I liked this one!  I looove that Lightning Dust hasn’t changed.  It’s a breath of fresh air, frankly.  I was kinda hoping Scoots would go through with the trick and find her “calling”, since she can’t fly.  But, eh.  It’s a minor little nitpick.  It’s been rare for me to genuinely love an episode of this show lately, but this one was fantastic!
