All G2 childhood here ;), although G3 came along when I was still a kid.   I remember being quite horrified by the new G3 design when they came out XD Which is why I wasn't into MLP for most of my childhood.  I have certainly warmed up to G3's since then, though :P

I had some G1 but my parents convinced me to give my toys to my cousins when I got older. Later on I was able to get a few back. I have my original FF Bluebelle with my name written on her feet. I have my original Scribbles, too. I've had to replace most of the others. Oh, I have my original High Tide. Wish I hadn't chewed on her.

As some people here know, my 'childhood history' with MLP is weird--weird as in I'm practically an MLP amnesiac. When I started getting into MLP this winter, my mom and I went and looked on Dream Valley and she was able to point out a few of the ponies she remembers me owning / buying for me:

Minty
Firefly
Shady
Glory
Gusty
Red Roses

Looking at what was available, and with hindsight being 20 / 20, I can somewhat see that I probably would've been way more into MLP if I'd noticed stuff like Princesses, Big Brothers, Brush 'n Grow ponies or Sundae Best. But I was born in 1982 and those ponies released after I was already very committed (addicted?) to collecting dolls.

G1 for me.  My first childhood pony was Moondancer and my last was Bouquet.  I had about twenty.

I only had G1 ponies as a child and one Remco fakie.  I sadly lost my childhood Mail Order Spike and that made me very sad.
I've had to replace a few of my childhood ponies that I lost, like SHS Sweet Sundrop and I think Snuzzle.
But I do still have Tux n Tails with his bow, and Lucky along with his bow too!  Mind you the elastic has been replaced a few times.
I am missing two sea ponies that I had when I was small.  A large blue sea pony with a pink shell and I think her hair was purple.  And a baby seapony that could change color.  Both were contaminated with mold and thrown out.
My original herd consisted of maybe 20 ponies.

G1 for me :) I will admit to not remembering everyone I had but they were all pretty early in the line and I did not have too many.

Lets see...Majesty, Lemon Drop, Baby Tiddly Winks and Peachy (I had the playsets hence having the ponies), Applejack x 2, Bow Tie x 2 (I had shy pose and collectors pose), Tootsie, Windy, Moonstone, Parasol, Skydancer, Sunlight, Lickety Split, Baby Bow Tie, Baby Applejack, Baby Blossom, Masquerade and perhaps a few more that I simply cant remember.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

G3 for me, too! My first pony was Tink-a-tink-a-too, quickly followed by Sew-and-sew (something about hyphenated names, I guess...they both came from the local supermarket).

Tink-a-Tink-a-Too was my first pony also!  I was in first or second grade when G3 came out and I was obsessed with them!  Other early additions to my herd were Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Cotton Candy, and Pink Sun Sparkle.  Some other favorites were Water Fire (who I remember being so excited to buy with my own money), Island Delight, Shenanigans, and Hidden Treasure, among others.  I still have all of them! Once I started collecting ponies I never really stopped so I collected G3 the whole time it was being released, then moved on to G3.5, and then G4.  Now I am going back and collecting G1 and G2!

G1 right at the beginning with Cotton Candy. My last hold hood G1 was Pretty Vision. I had about 60 and most of the play sets.

Chose "other"... I always had Barbie horses. I remember Walking Beauty, and all four of the Sparkle Beauties. Emerald was my favourite. :) I guess being born in 1991, by the time I wanted specific horse toys, G1 was finished and G2 was Euro-only. And then in 2002 I got into video games and stopped visiting the toy aisles so I never noticed G3 :P MLP proper had to wait until G4 infiltrated the internet to get me on board.
