Pony Corral / Re: G2 fakies?

I have that exact one. If I recall correctly, I've seen another coloured one somewhere online but it had the same symbol as this one. I'm positive it's a fakie, but it did trick me until I got it out of the bag of thrift shop ponies! It's just a real shame it has no prayer of standing due to the pose and it's squishy plastic. I found mine a couple years ago, no clue how old it is.

I already posted about this in the other thread, but I spent time picking through Strawberry Reef and comparing the pictures to the blurry box pictures. Before I realized will2bfree had already done that (could have saved time, doh!). My results seem to match exactly. I also noticed that most of the remaining unreleased ponies are G3 reprints and had the same theory about a new collection coming up.

Also notice these ponies are exactly wave four in their proper solid colours with magnet, Roseluck, and Cherry Spices added since the three gimmick ponies in wave four are repeats of mane six figures. Because of that and being able to compare poses and colours on the box, I'm convinced these are the right ponies.

I love figuring out puzzles so I spent way too much time figuring out exactly what's in the new blind bag set. Keeping in mind of course this is just me using the picture of the box and other available info to piece this together, this is in no way official or confirmed:

I got all blind bag pony images off of Strawberry Reef's site, without permission, just to illustrate.

There are always three gimmicky ponies per set and in this one it's the gems on their symbols. Notice it's the same mould all three times. Also notice that this set is exactly the wave four set, only not transparent glittery. In that set Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie were there twice (once as the gimmick ponies) and I believe that's why this mystery magnet pony showed up in this set along with Roseluck and Cherry Spices.

And just to make every other pony you've ever seen look amazing, here's another blue (one might even say Princess Royal Blue) going through her shock everyone phase. She just did it for the attention.

Pony Corral / Re: Need help identifying combs....
« on: September 19, 2012, 06:38:45 PM »
The blue slotted thing is a rack for putting Majesty's shoes in, came with the Dream Castle. The yellow chair behind that is from Dream Central, a Moondreamers playset. The sink is for Paradise estate. The pink rocker came with Baby Surprise.

As for the brushes and combs, what others have suggested is the best. Lady Twilight's accessory site should help you. I love researching things like this but honestly you would know better because you know which ponies you had as a child and sometimes the hues can vary a bit making it harder to tell from the comb alone. There are a few brushes in there that aren't MLP but I'm not sure what they come from. The long wedge shaped one might be Barbie? It's on the tip of my brain...

Pony Corral / Re: TRU: MLP 30% in Canada
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:33:43 PM »
I meant to mention, I found the blind bags up front right on the Customer Service/Returns counter by the cashier, not in the pony aisle. So make sure to check everywhere for them if you don't find them. The sticker wasn't marked with the sale price, but the sale did work when they were actually rung through. The cashier watched me pick through the box checking codes on my iPhone and only after I'd paid did she finally ask what I had been doing. When I showed her the codes on the bags she thought that was fantastic!

I did think it was very interesting that the MLP blind bags were up front where they could be watched but the LPS ones were in the aisle with the LPS, right beside the ponies.

My childhood Surprise has a shorter forelock, but it is longer then a straight haired pony's forelock because she is supposed to have curly hair. That shorter bit is a curly forelock. Just the other day I was washing the hair on a Surprise I found in the thrift shop and thought it was strange that she didn't have a shorter forelock like mine does. I can promise you no scissors ever went near my childhood Surprise, so I'll back up the suggestion that there were different batches done in different ways.

A few weeks ago an employee in my Walmart told me the next wave of ponies was in the back and that they were moving the display and setting up all new things. I was quite excited. But I went there this week and discovered what she meant was the addition of Glimmer Wings, the new mini packs, blind bags, and yet more of the old mane six wave. :(

Today when I went to TRU for the sale I was disappointed to find Zecora hasn't arrived there yet. I did find the Pony Friends Forever blind bag set of twelve which I very nearly bought, but I can't afford it. I was nice to have blind bags at a reasonable price instead of $4 though. If I had money I would have bought all those Cherrilee Schoolhouse playsets on sale there as I understand people from the States are still looking. That's a heads up for other Canadians looking to buy for Americans though. Also, I don't know about other TRU's but mine still has the 3.5 anthro pony figures, mermaid Ponyvilles, and Rainbow Dash and Mom sets (with bonus thick layer of dust free!).

Off Topic / Re: this isn't my little pony...

Oh boy, Dream Central!
What others have said, Moondreamers was another line by Hasbro in 1985/86. I'm sorry my ID site is down at the moment or I'd link it, but what that is is the biggest playset for them,  it would be the equivalent of the Dream Castle for MLP in terms of size, maybe a bit smaller since it doesn't unfold quite as much. The cool thing about the Moondreamers line is that it features glow in the dark parts and accessories. I've got a lot of the accessories myself, but haven't run across the building yet.

I'm sure there would be someone interested in trading or buying it from you (such as Elisto, lol).

Pony Corral / Re: Fakies - Big Fakintosh and the Fauxcomotive!
« on: September 02, 2012, 07:43:56 PM »
Both those fakies use moulds that have been floating around for ages and copied by a number of companies over the years. As mentioned, the Big Mac one is a copy of the original Magic Meadow Ponies that Hasbro produced for Cabbage Patch Kids. Quite scary with the glass eyes added, but strangely they grow on you. I have a few of them now including that one. I found mine long before Big Mac was around so he's not directly copied. Havacrumpet, thank you for the information, I have wondered about them for a while.

The other one, again as mentioned, is the same mould as what's used in Walmart fakies currently, but I've only ever seen flowers and such on them, never a train! You may have noticed that the body was copied from a Tootsie pose G1, but I'm not certain where the head came from.

Here's some pictures of mine:

I would not recommend it for casual cleaning. There are indeed a few metal bits within the plastic casing so rust is a concern, but the entire thing is so firmly entrenched in the pony I don't believe it to be worth the effort unless you have strong signs of internal issues. I happen to have a bait DnP so here's some lovely pictorial evidence for you.

I got her in a bait lot with head already removed. I'm guessing that the little cut from the rim of her neck to the knob hole was put there by the customizer I got her from as it's not there on the other intact bait DnP I have. In fact I suspect the customizer got as far as this, saw how hard the rest would be and scrapped the whole idea. Even that extra play doesn't allow the mechanism to come out.

As you can see, the head is held on by a little groove to the inner mechanism itself, not the body of the pony.

Notice the upraised line in the middle top of the mechanism. It leads to a tiny hole in the back which gives access to a tiny screw which will separate the two halves of this beast. In Tap Dancer's case, the hole is quite filled in with rust which is why I stopped this little exploration here. Perhaps some other day I may continue and get more pictures.

You can see the axle where the winding knob used to be attached is made of metal. In poor nighttime pictures like these I couldn't capture it, but there are other metal parts visible through the sides of the mechanism. Strangely not rusted in this case. I tried to wriggle the thing out of the pony, but it is very firmly affixed in place. I suspect it was assembled inside the pony and that you'd have to reverse engineer it to get it out, but obviously I haven't gone that far so I really don't know.

At any rate, the whole procedure would be pretty complex just for the chance to scan if there were problems inside the body.

There was a local pony meet in Ontario?  Was that the one in/near Toronto?

Yes, last year at around this time. It was a wonderful mix of collectors and Bronies. I had hoped it would become a regular thing but I haven't heard of one this year. I've been toying with the idea of bringing back the annual pony meet I ran in the early 2000's though, there's plenty of interest in southern Ontario.

I was really lucky last year and won one from a local Meet. I was so excited. At the same Meet a few of the Bronies were showing off a variety of custom plushies in varying sizes. I have very little income for ponies so I really can't afford commissioning something like them, but I do so love plushies. I have some lovely mint coloured felt fabric that I intend to make into a Baby Ice Crystal plush someday, but I haven't got around to it.

The Meet got Big Mac from Anita's_mom.

Pony Corral / Re: 2 Questions about restoring so softs
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:34:59 PM »
I agree with hathorcat, it does sound like the glue was already ruined and that's why the flocking came off so easily. I have also heard a report or two of Oxiclean seeming to take the flocking right off, but I've heard of people using it without trouble like Foalpatrol. I'm going to guess this has a lot to do with the condition of the glue as well.

As for my bleach bath method, I wasn't worried about the eyes at all and only mildly concerned for the hair. About ten years ago I experimented with bleach baths on baits. I messed around with different strengths and lengths of time and discovered (at least for the ponies I happened to be working on) that the bleach needs to be 100% and left soaking in for a day or two before the colour of the plastic starts changing. One of the coloured stripes in the mane did start fading before that and the paint didn't change at all during that time.

So knowing that about bleach, the way I did Sundance and almost every other So-Soft in my collection was to find a plastic container just big enough for the pony to stand in, usually margarine or yogourt tubs though once or twice I cut out the bottom of a 2L pop bottle. Then I draped the mane and tail over the edge outside the tub and poured in the bleach solution to fill the tub with them standing in it. I weighed the pony down with sortof a way too complex system of shampoo bottles and braces. It occurs I should have cut the container lid to allow the head and tail to poke out and then stood the shampoo bottle on top of that... hindsight. The bleach does soak the roots of the hair and wicks a little up it but I never had any sort of fading issue. Immediately after the bleach bath I wash the pony really well to remove any hint of bleach, condition the hair and flocking, pat dry with a towel and leave her in a well ventilated area to dry.

To add to this, I'm nervous of removing So-Soft heads because I don't want the flocking around the seam to end up looking patchy or rough, otherwise I would most certainly have removed the tails before any of this. The bleach baths would have been much easier too had the ponies not been filled with air making them float. So if anyone does end up trying my crazy method, keep this in mind.

Partly as another example and partly because she's so soft and gorgeous to show off, here's my Magic Star that was washed with this method:
