I have a question for you all! Please help me!

So I am re-organizing my MLP binder. I wanted to re-organize it due to the fact it seemed to me it was getting out of hoof. (see what I did there?!). I already took out all of the papers I had in there to start fresh and new. I want to re-write everything I have to the best I can get it in and making it look neat. I have linked my MLP Merch checklist page for possible assistance. I have an idea on what I was thinking of doing, but I have my doubts.

Some Ideas I Had Were:

• Separate each generation, and have each year the pony came out in for a different list
• Organize it simular to my MLP Merch list(s)

This is what I have for now, I really need some ideas from people. I would prefer your replies to have lots of detailed explanations so I understand completely what is being said. It helps me a ton!

I'm really bad at organizing but I think arranging it like the MLP Merch checklist is a good idea. That way you quickly cross reference them.

I have everything digital. For G1, G2 and G3 a checklist I got online ages ago. I use MLP Merch for G4 since that is the most complete one. (Also good for G5). And I have a wish list document. All on my pc and my smartphone through dropbox so I don't have to drag papers on conventions or print them.
If you really want something on paper I would recommend the Summer Hayes books and The Nirvana Guide from Debra Birge. It has pictures and checkboxes. Whatever is not mentioned you can write on paper and put it in a binder.

My objective answer is to organise it in whatever way you find most intuitive to keep track of your own collection. There isn't a right or wrong answer, so organise them however makes the most sense to you.

My less objective response...MLPMerch is not a G1 site; its organisation is horrible. It is the best site hands down for anything G4, as the owners are G4 experts - but sites that specialise in one generation don't necessarily provide good information for others. Wiki's timeline is messy in places but is probably better for G1 than other gens. Strawberry Reef remains good for G3 but not any other generation. I don't know if you collect G2, but Lavender Lagoon remains the best site in my opinion for that.

If you want an accurate list, it's never a good idea to use one site for all generations. It's better to use each site for the generation they specialise in.

There is no accurate book for G1 pony releases outside the US. I know someone in Europe is working on one but it is not yet at a point of print.
