Pony Corral / Re: Evaluate for Insurance Purposes?
« on: March 31, 2018, 01:53:07 AM »
I know in Australia many home insurance companies have a 'collections' addition, which is a capped value for a collection of whatever you happen to have, as long as it's documented. I have photos on a cloud service, and my checklists too, so I have my complete inventory available if the worst happened. My collection is just going over the largest cap for my contents insurance, but finding anything else suitable is tough, and my documentation will have to be more thorough, which is a pain since a whole bunch of my stuff is in storage right now. If I find anything, I'll let you know, but toy collections are a tough sell, and nothing in mine is hugely valuable per piece, so I'm having a bit of trouble even considering my overall value is getting up there!

Pony Corral / Re: Help!? Ponies VS Cat urine.
« on: March 30, 2018, 04:12:55 PM »
I had a very old cat who snuck into our spare room, where a bulk lot of g3's I'd just bought were in a box on the floor, and got herself locked in. Well she had an accident in the box, and I had dozens of very smelly G3's to clean up somehow!

I used the white vinegar trick. I made up a bucket of the solution, pulled off everyone's heads (THAT took a while!) and put them all through a regular cleaning, and then soaked each batch in the vinegar solution until the next batch was done with it's regular cleaning (about 5-6 ponies, so probs 10 min) then I hung them on the clothesline. It was quite the sight. When I ran out of washbags I used old thin pillowcases, and then resorted to hanging by their hair. Some I put in windowsills and on railings too, anywhere I could give them a solid day of air circulation.

They were still slightly stinky, so I filled a large shallow container with baking soda, placed it in a box, put a baking cooling rack over the container so the ponies didn't get powder on them, and put the ponies in too before sealing it. I left them for a month, and then aired them again for another full day in the sun (aside from any light pink-haired girls, light pink G3 hair fades like crazy), so the heat would bring out any residual smell. They're back to normal now. My scented ones no longer smell either, but it was a sacrifice I had to make in order to keep them.

Pony Corral / Re: Any tips for storing ponies in boxes ?
« on: March 24, 2018, 08:48:04 PM »
I have the under bed rolling/stackable style boxes. Any bright or fluoro hair that is likely to stain is wrapped in acid free tissue paper before each pony is placed in clear ziplock bags (some from Daiso, or other dollar stores) open at the top to prevent rubbing between ponies. Then I throw some silica packets in the bottom of the box (100 for $1 on ebay). All my boxes are clearly labelled on the lid with a list of ponies that are in them (I use A4 plastic display folder sleeves, so I can update them easily, but heck you could laminate them!) and a box reference number, and I keep a copy of each box's list in a folder as well, so that if I ever need to find a particular pony, I can look it up easily. The Ref number also goes on the side facing out so that I can see them when they're stacked. This is also a handy system if you ever need to move your collection!

Just got this gorgeous oddball from the lovely Nella:

I'm guessing she comes from the late 90's, between the original Dream fakies and Sister fakies (she's a a mashup of the two) and the re-releases in the early 00's when they used the Sister fakie's symbols on Dream fakies but with CP fakie heads. Her hair is vintage (tri-coloured mane, rotting pink), so she definitely came before the CP/Dream/Sister fakies. Anyone have any others like her?

OMG you have the lanards with rider sets?! I don't think those were sold here, I've never seen them in person, and they're GORGEOUS!

And that blue mummy simba with her hooves coloured.. so cool - not to mention the baby comet one in the last pic..! I'm salivating over here!

Would you mind if I saved your pics for reference? I'm a bit of a vintage fakie nut..

Pony Corral / Re: UK Pony guide???
« on: March 19, 2018, 03:47:46 AM »
Taffeta, I must just say that us Australian collectors are hugely thankful for your site! We got such a hodge-podge of ponies from everywhere, it's hard to make heads or tails of anything, and just knowing where UK meets and comes together in sets with US and other distribution areas is HUGELY helpful, because we can see where our ponies fit, and get a closer guess at when/if/why ponies were released here. So thank you, Taffeta, you'll never have to defend your site where I'm concerned!

Pony Corral / Re: Plasticizer leak

The 2nd set of rainbow ponies for sure. It can be tough to find one where the leak hasn't rusted the symbols. And I definitely have a few TEs with it too - also anything post G1 with a transparent/glittery body, Hip Holly, Queen Sunsparkle and the G3 Divine Shine set.

It's Shadowbolt Dash (and her hair glue) all over again! I was considering getting another one to play around with, but the effort hardly seems worth the gain...

Eaglemoss is a UK company I believe, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't available in the UK at least. The subscription gift ponies are the ribbon hair ones, so I figured either there was a whole bunch of overstock someplace they got for cheap, or it had been released before - if it was in the UK, that makes sense!

Pony Corral / Re: Designer Pin Unicorns
« on: March 17, 2018, 03:59:43 AM »
I have always wanted to get into collecting pins, unfortunately living in Australia makes international shipping for small and light items quite expensive, and most of the special pins I desire are in the northern hemisphere somewhere.... *shakes fist* I would ADORE pony pins! I picked Gusty and Reverse Gusty, not that it matters much as I won't be able to catch any of yours, but I would love to see photos and I'm sure they would go over splendidly at the fair :accomplished:
This. I'd buy Gusty, because I love her, but if they were both in front of me, I'd buy them both!

I'm a 34E, and I'm an underwire all the way kinda girl. My sports bras have an underwire with a support band as well so the wire doesn't move and chafe. I sleep and mooch around the house bra-less, but if I go out, I like a good shaped cup, I don't like the world seeing whether or not I'm feeling a chill! I love cute bras, but I'm married, so I do get looked at in my underwear on the odd occasion, so that's my reasoning there.

I've never been able to find the fakie facebook group... is there a link somewhere?  ^.^

It's called My Little Phony.

A wish list is essential if you buy online. Also a budget, heck sometimes I set a budget before I go looking for a particular pony, because I know once I find one I'll start justifying the price and blow my whole pony budget on one pony I really want. I always do my research first when making a big pony purchase. Make sure I'm not spending too much, and know what flaws to look for for each particular pony. Like the second set of rainbow ponies are prone to symbol rust, because they get plasticizer leak fairly commonly, and which ponies have fading pink hair. That way you don't buy a Tickle with a gold symbol only to find it's just rusty, or a 'white-haired variant' Posey, only to find she's just a faded regular one.

My husband bought me the subscription for Easter, because I told him I didn't want chocolate this year. They're pretty cute, and the art supplies are adorable (not that I need any more pony art supplies, but ponies, and scented pens woot!). We happened to be walking past the newsagent this afternoon and they caught my eye, so I bought the first two volumes, and when we got home, hubby grabbed the subscription leaflet and a few minutes later an email popped into my inbox with my subscription details! Love that man!
