Introductions / I'm BAAACCCKKK! (again!)
« on: March 01, 2024, 03:13:20 AM »
Hey lovely pony people, I'm back after my second hiatus from this place!

My latest hiatus was due to me finally having my rainbow baby and having to go back to work afterwards, and the constant exhaustion of being a working mum didn't leave much time for ponies. I'd already decided to stop actively collecting, just passively picking up stuff I saw in person, but honestly ponies fell to the wayside as I stopped having the energy to go thrifting on weekends anymore. Several stops on my route have since shut down as well, or re-organised to have less toy stock, so ponies aren't something I find very often at all.

Late last year, I had my youngest son. Unfortunately he has cerebral palsy, and a heart condition, so I've been unable to return to work. This has forced a change in lifestyle again, and we've been finding more affordable yet fun ways to spend our weekends, like flea markets, etc. No ponies yet, but a few weeks ago I found a complete Lady Lovely Locks Puzzle for $2, and the itch started to creep back in. Then we reorganised our under stairs storage, and there were a bunch of ponies I'd never got around to selling... and I figured I should probably sell them. So I started going through it all, and well I've missed it. So if I'm going to be at home caring for my boys, I need an outlet too, and while I love a good video game, I'm getting a little burnt out. Ponies feel like the right answer. It's a wholesome community, a fun hobby, and I can enjoy ponies whenever it suits me, around the care needs of my kids.

So here I am, back again, to my internet home.

Introductions / I've been gone awhile, but I'm back!
« on: February 10, 2019, 02:48:54 AM »
Hey guys, it's Stormness, back again!

I took a bit of an arena sabbatical. With the loss of our son, at first I threw myself into the internet and my online friendships, but as I started dealing with the loss better and re-entering the real world, I needed to put a lot more effort into keeping my real-world relationships functioning. And so the arena fell by the wayside.

But my life is so much better emotionally and more organised now, and I can afford a little me time. Although it's hard to find with a new baby on the way. Converting our guest bedroom back into a nursery after painstakingly removing all traces of the previous one. We never thought we'd get here, but here we are, healthy and happy, and with a strong, healthy baby kicking around in my belly. And so I'm back at my pony home, not buying, or doing much selling either (although I have a massive box I still need to get through, and an even bigger box of fakies that need to be catalogued and sorted, and a whole bunch sold) but I'm here!

When I am collecting, I collect all gens except 3.5 and 4.5 (are we still calling them that? I remember a debate around when I left, just as they started coming out) vintage fakies, and MLP colouring books, G1 & G2 and the 5 mile press editions of G3 & G4. I also collect MLP media (games, CDs and DVDs) and that range of things seems to expand constantly, with me picking up random pony 'things' all the time, despite not 'actively collecting' at the moment.

Can't wait to see you all around, the old faces and the new alike!  :lovey:

My husband bought me the subscription for Easter, because I told him I didn't want chocolate this year. They're pretty cute, and the art supplies are adorable (not that I need any more pony art supplies, but ponies, and scented pens woot!). We happened to be walking past the newsagent this afternoon and they caught my eye, so I bought the first two volumes, and when we got home, hubby grabbed the subscription leaflet and a few minutes later an email popped into my inbox with my subscription details! Love that man!

This in NOT pony related, so please move if this isn't the appropriate place to post this.

Next month is 10 years since I started dating my now-husband. I'm wanting to commission a painting/drawing to illustrate the story of how we first met. The scene I'm imagining is of two teenage girls, both riding bay horses, and a guy standing beside them.

I'm thinking the picture needs to be vague in it's details, to match the story, as the story doesn't reveal who it's about until almost at the end, you have to know the story to know what's coming. No faces clearly visible or detailed, but the colours and emotions are vibrant in the story. (at least I hope that's how it comes across!)

I'm asking here, because pony peeps for the most part know horse anatomy fairly well.

If anyone would like to have a crack at it, I'm happy to provide ref pics of elements of the story, or even just describe things if that helps it remain vague and unspecific. This is a commission, something I'm wanting to pay for, as I'd ideally like to have a digital copy that I can have printed any which way I end up deciding on, as I'm as yet unsure how I'd like to present the story and picture. I have a few ideas, but I'm still hashing it out, despite it being next month. eek!

Here's the story in case that helps anyone put their hand up:
Spoiler
Many years ago, in a sleepy little town, at about this approximate time on a warm Autumn morning, a teenage girl rode a bay mare toward the showground gate. Her friend, upon seeing her, called out to them, and cantered up from the opposite direction, riding a bay gelding. The girls chatted as they rode the horses through the gate and towards the group that had gathered under the trees. It was sign up day for the local pony club, and the club’s administrative members milled around, busily handing out paperwork and accepting membership fees, while the riders saddled and warmed up around the outside of the arena. Parents trudged around four-wheel drives and horse floats, calling after their children and chatting amongst themselves.

Seeing the two girls approach, the pony club’s treasurer approached them, papers in hand. The girls, both being long-term members of the club, greeted the treasurer warmly, and accepted the papers on horseback, knowing that holding them wasn’t going to be an issue with the mounts they rode that day.
“Mum’s got my fees, here she comes now,” the younger girl, mounted on the gelding, cheerfully told the treasurer, gesturing to two people coming through the gate.
“Mine are in my backpack, but I’m gonna have to jump off to fill this out” the other girl lamented as she swung her small purple backpack around onto the pommel of her saddle, rummaging through the contents one-handedly, her other hand clutching the mare’s reins.
“That’s what he’s for!” laughed the girl as she pointed towards where her mother approached on foot, at a tall young man walking at her side.
“That’s what big brothers are for, right bro?” she called to him as they walked up towards the two horses. The young man laughed, and reached up to stroke the gelding’s face, running his fingers over the large star on the centre of his forehead.
“Come here and turn around so I can write on your back!” demanded his sister laughingly. The older girl, after passing her friend a pen from her backpack, re-zipped it and swung it back on, ready to dismount to fill out her own paperwork.
“Don’t get off, you can use him too” proclaimed her friend just as she’d slid her feet from her stirrups. The man laughed, his blue eyes betraying the slightest hint of hesitation. He shrugged slightly, seemingly fine with the prospect of being written on by a girl he’d never met before, and walked into the space between the two horses, his moment of hesitation passing as quickly as it had appeared. The older girl laughed and took the pen back from her friend, finding the whole situation rather convenient, but not in the least awkward. With her outgoing friend this sort of thing was the norm. Besides, he was just her friend’s brother, and while he was kind of cute, she already had a boyfriend. She leaned down and filled out the paperwork quickly, trying to write gently, and thanked her ‘desk’ as she pulled her backpack back around onto her lap to put her pen away.

“I suppose I should probably introduce you, huh?” the younger girl said jokingy.
“Storm, this is my brother Christian.”

To this day, the man claims he knew that day that the girl on the bay mare would be his someday. Almost a year later, on the 4th February, 2008, the girl went out on a date with him, and as they say, the rest is history. Today marks ten years since that first date, almost eleven since that very first fateful meeting when a girl on a horse used a guy as a writing surface, and their fates intertwined forever.

Also story critique is completely welcome! Have at it!

Pony Brag Arena / Simba fakie haul! Updated with pics!
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:08:17 PM »
I'm a bit of a vintage fakie nut, and so when these guys popped up on the Aussie MLP sale page on Facebook, I was definitely interested! I picked them up this morning, and spa day is underway. I couldn't wait to post a pic of the Simbas though... At the moment they're drying after having their hair washed:

This batch has Dream Ponies, a Merry Go Round fakie, rearing and sitting pose fakies, and one of each of the Alicorn poses, as well as a baby set (the drink n wet has a ribbon caught in her tail so she's awaiting removal in the 2nd batch).

The second batch has three of the giant cabbage patch style fakies, one of the babies, a vintage Lanard set, and a Princess Rinse 'n Spit! I can't wait to get them all clean and pretty, I'm super excited to see how they'll turn out.. not quite finished with them, there are some remco fakies and the giant cabbage patch girls still pending photos!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Fun card games for a non-gamer group?
« on: November 14, 2017, 02:31:50 AM »
Can anyone help me?!

I'm hoping to have a get together to cheer up my newly single SIL, with a few drinks and some fun games to keep focus off of sensitive topics for all of us. I have CAH, and we'll probably play that for a while, but are there any other card or other fun games that people recommend to keep the fun vibe going? We're easy-going people, and pretty hard to offend, but personalized insults are probably not something we could handle right now, and I know a few games are that way inclined. There will only be a handful of people, of which I'm the only nerd/gamer type, so I need stuff that's not too niche, and can handle low-ish numbers, lets say 3-4 at the lowest if people start piking out and going to bed early.

No recommendation is too cheesy or lame... we love a good dad joke, and can dish out the crudest humour, all I care is that it's fun! Bring on your party staples, I want to fill our home with laughter!

Pony Brag Arena / Some G4 merch at The Reject Shop!
« on: August 19, 2017, 10:08:32 PM »
I know this isn't particularly bragworthy, but I wanted to try my hand at imgur, so I thought why not? I got a poster pack, some stickers and some glitter art posters. They also have little plush ponies, which is awesome.. I didn't get any though, I am trying to be good! The photo also shows some Blind bags from Woollies (2 for $5, whoot! and a pencil I got for $2 at Coles, they also have other G4 merch like stickers, erasers and pens for $2 at some stores!) on the same shopping trip. Here goes:

TA-DAAA!!

well that went well-ish... at first it kept pasting the html code, even though I kept copying the BB code. I thought I was going nuts...

Hey pony people!

I have a very large complete wish list of everything I collect, but I'm focusing on a smaller section right now, because the whole "want everything in sight" mentality was driving me a bit crazy, and making me a bit anxious. So for now, this is my small section, stuff that's manageable and doesn't need extensive cleaning before joining my collection. Games & DVD's can be any region unless stated, my DVD player and PC are both multi-region and can play anything, as long as it's in english I'm happy. DS games are region free, it's just the 3DS ones that have region locks, so it's no problem sourcing those from anywhere either.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Care Bears - Region 4 DVD help?!
« on: July 21, 2017, 05:12:49 AM »
Hey there Care Bear enthusiasts!

I'm hoping (okay, praying!) that someone can help me to figure out the world of Care Bear DVD releases in Region 4 (English), I'm beyond confused trying to figure out what to actually get so I'm not doubling up too much!

The Original Nelvana series, "The Care Bear Family", and the first 5 movies I have a handle on, mostly. There is that boxed set with the crayons that confuses me somewhat though, it similarly to the MLP one, covers half the series (MLP one had Tales 1 & 2), however, I can't seem to find any info on the included discs being released outside of the set, or the other half of the set to complement them. Colour me confused! At this point I think I'll track down the original older volume sets, they're more straightforward!!

The very first season and the specials really confuses me. Firstly, no record of the specials on DVD anywhere that I can find, let alone the region codes. Sounds just like MLP in that regard!

Secondly, I'm only finding a few episodes of the original series from DiC released in region 4, on 2 DVDs from Jigsaw in NZ, "Daydreams" & "The Last Laugh", 6 out of the 11. Again a half series. Urgh! Does anyone know of a complete R4 set? Looks like I might have to go out of region to get that series, I'm up for a new DVD player anyhow, so might have to go for something region unlockable.

Fast Forward to the Adventure In Care-a-Lot series, and the region 4 complete collection set that has 48 Episodes. I'm confused, again... If you go by the wiki, each episode has 2 stories, so there are only 26 episodes. Okay, so they mean stories individually, so okay that's about.. okay, no, that's 52, still not right. So I'll take the 2-parters out, so that's Emma's Dilemma part II & Broken part II, and that's still 50 episodes.. What's missing from it?! I'm assuming Those last two episodes are maybe counted as specials being longer, and were left out? If so, that works because of the Grizzly's Adventures DVD, which just has those 2, but I'm not 100% sure... Then there's the Ups & Downs DVD, that lists the included episodes as "Cheer Up" & "Down To Earth", neither of which I've ever heard of?! What on earth....?!

I haven't even started on Welcome To Care-a-Lot, It seems like a massive pain in the rear. In MLP, they had similar 4 DVD boxed sets as the care bears "Belly Badge Collection", the dream valley set which was the g3 & 3.5 movies, and the G4 one (the name escapes me right now, and it's gone from the website) which contained the entire season 4 DVD set, nice and tidy. Is this the case with the Care Bears set? Does it cover the entire 1st season? Probably not, it doesn't look like there's enough episodes per DVD... If not, what else would I need to complete the season?

Can someone pretty please help to clear this up a bit for me? Or point me toward some good resources? There's heaps online from collectors about the toys, but not much aside from wikipedia about the media side of things that I could find! What I've got so far is from a combo of dvd cover images I found on google & ebay, and the wiki info to cross reference.

OOOOHHH... one last question! When I was a child, I had a VHS tape with a few stories on it from the Little Golden Books series. There was Care Bears, Poky Little Puppy, and a Sailor Dog I think. Now those episodes I'm remembering as a reading of the books, with illustrations from the books thrown up to make a video. Does anyone else remember these? There was the trouble with timothy, and another one I can't remember which though! I'd love to get them again, (the artwork was beautiful!) but I just know they won't exist on DVD, and my DVD player that just died was my VHS/DVD combo player, and I doubt I'm going to be able to get another of those, at least not new, so I'm guessing they're lost forever unless anyone's seen them uploaded online anywhere? I don't actually have the VHS anymore, but I've seen them for sale around the place, it jogged my memory, and now I want it back!!

Sorry for the crazily formatted post, I'm pretty tired today! Any help would be graciously accepted, this community is so awesome at stuff like this!

:help: :what:

Pony Corral / DVD release questions - MORE QUESTIONS!!
« on: May 19, 2017, 07:15:22 PM »
I was going through my pony DVDs and googling things while compiling a wish list when I came across a few releases I hadn't seen before. I thought you guys might know some things I don't, maybe some DVDs were only released in certain places and that might explain why I've never seen them! There were also a few DVDs that I don't know a lot about, so I have some questions that I thought I'd put to the greater pony community.

-A Charming Birthday. I have the VHS, but is it available anywhere on DVD? It was in that crossover sort-of time, was a DVD ever produced? I know that Dancing In the Clouds has both types of release, so it's a possibility, but perhaps a slim one. I could always make one up I guess, but my VHS/DVD recorder packed it in last week, so I'd have to try the in-laws, I know we bought them one they never hooked up, so should be brand new. EDIT: Found the DVD available in a sleeve from a pony package, just the single episode, similar to Ladybug Jamboree, Friends Are Never Far Away and Dancing In The Clouds, etc..

-Positively Pink. The DVD release is just the one episode from 'A Very Pony Place', right? No extra content? EDIT: No confirmation yet, but as it appears to have a release in the single episode packaging as well as the proper release, I'm assuming this is the case.

-Friends Are Never Far Away. Same deal, Is it just the previously released standalone episode? Or Does it have extra content?

-G3.5 Meet the ponies. Is it just the G3 DVD, or does it have different content? It says 30 minutes, but the G3 one has 28 minutes of content. I cannot find any info whatsoever on this one, does anyone have it? What's actually on it?!

-G3.5 Once Upon A Pony Time. I know there's 'So many ways to play', but what was the other episode on that DVD called? Found it! "Over Two Rainbows"

-Legend of Everfree. Is it just available as region one, I've never seen it here? I'm not really into the Equestria Girls thing, but I want to complete the series. EDIT: Found it as Region 4, now online and in brick-and-mortar retailers, so I'm assuming it had a worldwide release, it just took it's sweet time. There is a new Equestria Girls set coming out later this year as well with Rainbow Rocks/Friendship Games/Legend Of Everfree in one casing, so I'm thinking of buying that and selling my Rainbow Rocks one, as it's still brand new, and I'm not really into EQG, but want a complete MLP media collection.

-Rainbow Dash's Special Day. I can't remember if our local release came with a DVD or just an extra outfit - I know Pinkie Pie did have the DVD though. I may be confusing this release with 'Dance Time Dress-Up', which had the same pose and an extra outfit. I'm leaning towards her being a US exclusive, I'm yet to track down anyone outside the US who has this release, in fact she seems hard to find, full-stop!

-Star Song and the Magic Dance Shoes. I have the book, but can't remember seeing the pony and DVD set here. I remember Pinkie and her DVD, and Rainbow (don't remember seeing the DVD) but have never seen that release of Starsong to my recollection. Was she US exclusive? EDIT: Found it only available online as Region 1 over several weeks, so guessing it didn't get a worldwide release.

Price Check Archives / PC's on G3's
« on: March 08, 2017, 07:59:46 PM »
Hey guys and gals, selling up some of my excess ponies and need to get some Price Checks! There were some I couldn't find anything within 2 years, or the search wouldn't work, so I thought I'd post them and get an updated PC, and maybe help others out as well. Here we go!

Rainbow Treat: Great hair, symbols and heart excellent, extremely faint discolouration NDS, so faint I couldn't get a picture.

Tiramisu(Tira-mi-su) and Mochanut as a set: Mochanut has scratches to her symbol, otherwise both are mint, with gorgeous factory wavy hair.

Star Flight: Uncut hair but with uneven tail clamp, heart rub, teensy eye scratch and her wings are intact and working.

Sunrise Song: Small symbol rubs, tiny green mark on leg, barely noticeable, single plug missing from the middle of her mane.

Windy Wisp: Slightly dry hair, but not brittle as that pink is prone to, Factory error blue paint splash (same colour as symbol) on NDS wing, 'CS' written in purple pen under rear hoof (visible as hoof is exposed in this pose).

Rainbow Dash I: Almost perfect, some cracking to symbol, otherwise mint.

Pretty Parasol: Funky tinsel, otherwise mint.

Pony Corral / Help - Blu-tack attack!
« on: March 03, 2017, 08:32:21 PM »
Ok guys, I'm putting all my ponies away to make room for a nursery, and so I'm pretty much done, so super proud of me, and all that's left is bags and bins of baits and doubles I haven't cleaned yet, always figuring I'd get to them sooner or later.. but now I need to sell them, so they need to be cleaned, right?

So I'm cleaning away, and I pull out this Darling Dahlia... and she just seems a bit mucky, nothing a magic eraser can't handle... but she has BLU-TACK IN HER HAIR! EWWWW!

I have absolutely NO IDEA what to do with this... obviously why I left her in there in the first place - this must be the too-hard basket I never realized I had!

Help, anyone?!
