Real 35mm film fans?
« on: October 16, 2014, 05:07:34 PM »
I picked up a couple of 35mm Canon cameras at the flea market, and am excited to shoot with real film. I just got an order of it from Ebay. Does anyone still use real film here?

To some extent. My brother, the favorite child in my family, was given my mom's really nice 35mm camera for Christmas (the one I wanted to inherit, of course -- he got the car I wanted, too). I've used it a bit, but can't really afford to buy my own. :/

i do! i pretty actively do digital and 35/120mm photography. i've been pretty lazy in developing finished rolls lately, but i promise i really do work in film lol. i'll add in a few shots below from the last rolls i had developed a few months ago.

i shoot with canon, as well, so if you need any help i can try my best. i also don't know how much you paid for your film, but i know of a couple photography specific sites with lots of film formats and other supplies if you'd like me to link you them ^.^

That's so cool! I bought a Canon T50 and something else.. I can't remember. It was two cameras, lenses, bags, flashes and more. I bought some film off Ebay for $4.97.. it's 400 ISO Kodak. I figured it was a good one to test with! It expires 2016, so that's nice. I love your pictures!

thanks! was the other camera an ae-1? i know those are a popular 35mm canon model. i'd say you definitely got a good deal especially if those are canon-mount lenses, because they would be mountable on to any other canon film camera body. film with an ISO of 400 is generally the all purpose level of film speed, so i'd say a good one to test with, as well. you should be able to get it developed at your local wal-mart, too, as mine even sends film out to fujifilm for development and includes digital copies of all your frames.

[edit] forgot to add in that the two main places i trust for photography equipment are b&h photo and adorama

Kittyberry, those photos are beautiful!
I like to do a bit of analog photography too, although I'm currently staying away from doing any more until this roll of film has been developed (it's been sitting around forgotten since January 2013!)

This one was on some generic colour film:

These ones are from regular black-and-white Kodak film:

And these are from some 1600 ISO Fuji Neopan film that I haven't been able to find since 2010:

me, me. I have a bunch of film cameras... although I have been too busy for it lately.

Since you live in Cincinnati you could check out Dodd's. My husband usually goes to the main one in Cleveland to buy stuff to use and flip.

I miss the days where developing at Target was 99c before they got rid of their equipment. :/ Now, we just develop it all at home.

This is such a lovely shot taproot~

Oh this is a neat thread for you all to share photos!

I found this awesome Flickr group for analog fans (I couldn't remember the name analog, hence why I titled this thread "real 35 mm" lol)

https://www.flickr.com/groups/film_is_not_dead/pool/

Then this other one for the camera I have (one of them..I still need to figure out what the other one is..)

I know Walgreens does analog film development still.  I hope mine will!

I forget what the make of my camera is, but I picked it up at a garage sale for $5. Ended up having to get the aperture repaired, but it was still a good deal. The camera is... decent. Haven't had the chance to use it in a while, but I did take a film photography class last year. It was a lot of fun!

if you have the time to get a picture of your camera up, i can try to help identify it.

thanks for the links! i actually ended up joining the film related group, so that was quite nice. i'll add a couple more frames from my ilford xp2 roll just for kicks since this is becoming a bit of a photo thread hehe

The other camera was an AE-1. I got that, the T-50, a couple of flashes and lenses and bags. Good deal? It was $62
