Has Anyone Had Luck Curling Pony Hair with Curlers?
« on: June 21, 2016, 01:13:11 PM »
Okay I am absolutely fed up with using straws and bobby pins XD

No matter how much I try (and succeed) in wrestling slimy condition-y pony hair into rolls, when I finish the final product it is never to my expectations

Has anyone ever tried actual curlers? And if so, what size? I feel like I might have more luck with them since the hair will more of less stay in place, which is my biggest issue with styling hair. In addition, I am looking to make longer curls, and bobby pins are pretty short, resulting in my girls having super tight (and kind of bizarre) curls.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I've seen a tutorial somewhere, where someone uses those flexible foamy type curlers, looked simple enough. Cant find the page for the life of me now though! xx

I have! It worked pretty well for me. I used like the squishy foam kind, and only the small ones. Only thing is I didn't leave them in long enough so they didn't turn out as I had hoped

I use foam curlers when I want looser curls. They work well.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

The consensus is the foam curlers, I will have to pick those up somewhere. I am hoping to get multiple sizes so I can style either large or small curls

Amazon would be a good bet, cos I reckon the pound shop ones wouldn't last very long, or stay in place all that great. xx

Foam Curlers are ALL I use.  You can purchase a multi-size pack pretty much anywhere.

I use foam curlers as well, both for styling and quick dip boil perms.  I use a multi pack made by Conair that I bought at Walgreens.  I have also used the velcro roller type with good results.  The foam are easier because they have a little click bar to hold them in place.  Let the hair dry fully (24 hours) before removing them.  Good luck! :)

I cannot do this if my life depended on it.!!  I gather it's supposed to be relatively simple, I see lots of pictures of ponies with beautiful soft non frizzy curls (like darkhorse's!).  I have tried and tried though and I am just incapable of curling pony hair....mine end up all styled straight :(

I use foam curlers with great results. Sometimes the little clip part can leave a kink in the hair though. I just bought these curlers from the dollar store last week and they have been wonderful! I like that they are longer for wrapping the hair all the way along the curler, they dry faster than the foam curlers and using the little clips doesn't leave a kink in the hair.

Use paper towel on the tips to keep them smooth and so the tips get curled too. And you have to dip them in boiling water to set the curl and let dry over night.  :)

Darkhorse those are positively beautiful, and totally what I am aiming for with the curlers! I'm going to grab some soft curlers to give it a shot.

@Shy Violet- those are interesting, I like how I can possibly do longer curls with them. My  biggest issue with the plastic curlers and bobby pins is that the curls come out really short and tight

@Tzan19- I know your pain haha

Thanks to everyone again for the tips!
