I opened my collectors set and yep, all the ponies have dents on them. Some aren't as noticeable as others. Some hair falling out too.

Wooow, one of the hair plugs in DJ Pon-3's hair is tied to another strand to make it longer because it was too short.  A factory worker must have cut off too short then took another strand and tied it together. That is definitely not okay.

No point in getting dented ponies replaced because they are all going to be like that, but this tied hair strand... probably the worst thing I've seen.

I could try to take a picture, but I only have a DSi and the quality is horrible.

I agree with Diamond - while it is true that you should never expect damaged goods when opening an item, personally I always try to remember both the market these toys are aimed at plus the fact they are only $5 each. Perhaps thats a lot to some people but in the grander scheme of the rest of the toy aisle and the tiny increase in what a pony costs now as to what it cost 30 years ago, I understand that quality control and finish may be less than we as "collectors" expect.

As much as this set was a "fans favourite" its still getting sold in TRU, it still features characters that the cartoons target market of little girls will want as well. Yes, it is $40 but thats, what $5.70 per pony [considering one is larger] thats not t0o bad a price for what you are getting in my opinion.

I hope that those who are not happy manage to get themselves replacement items. :)

May I suggest our mods report this to Equestria Daily, so that the community can express their disapproval in a civil manner?

We know that Hasbro listens, and they will listen even better if we use the right words. Glad that I *didn't* find a set before this was reported.

I was looking at my other ponies in the collector's set and Rainbow Dash also had a hair plug tied with another... they didn't even knot it the right way. I just pulled the knot apart with tweezers and now that hair plug is half as long as the rest of the mane. The dent in her is pretty noticeable too.

Pfft, whatever... Hasbro obviously has no QC with these toys.

Aww that stinks.  I highly doubt that Hasbro has them go directly to toys r us first.  I know most ponies are made in china but I'm sure Hasbro has the single ponies on hand somewhere.  I would be mad too if I paid that much and got nothing but crap basically.  At least they were kind about it and didn't try to weasle out of giving you what you deserved.

They all have dents? Even Nightmare Moon?

I am so happy I decided to stop buying new Hasbro products. That is beyond unacceptable, especially since its marketed towards collectors.
Pardon?  They are still marketed to little girls - they still sell in the toy section.  The only ones "marketed to collectors" are going to be your Fair and Comic Con ponies.  The rest can be found in little girls hands who do not care how bad they are.

I am not saying it is right, but gang, for the price you are lucky the heads are on the right way.

I buy Breyers, they cost anywhere from $20 to $75 and up new - they come with box rubs and bent legs, they are marketed to collectors, and I can see getting bent over that.  But for the most part over a toy?

Oh and G3's had all kinds of messes, as did G1's - some of those mis-matched heads and bodies have nothing to do with fading but with production of a cheap childs toy.

People said this set is $40, and $40 is quite a bit of money. That would feed me for a at least two weeks, better than I'm able to eat now. Having every single pony covered in dents (especially on top of all the other common Hasbroken 'quality' problems) is not acceptable. I don't care if they're truly children's toys, they should not be so damaged just being taken out of the package and its crazy to me how many people are like "oh well its bugs me but that's how it is, I'll just keep buying them and never complaining".

I don't care if something is $5 or $40, 'just a toy' or for collectors, it should not be broken/damaged directly out of the package. If I paid $40 for a set of ponies with heads on the wrong way, heads would roll at Hasbro like you wouldn't believe. We're not "lucky" their heads are on the right way. It is Hasbro's JOB to make toys and please their customers to sell products. It is not the duty of collectors to just throw our money at a company and be grateful we get anything in return, no matter how bad the quality is. That's not how it works. If they sell us crap and people get sick of it, they'll get angry and stop buying the products.

Every time someone tells me to be grateful Hasbro even makes ponies, be grateful they're not worse, etc it drives me insane. We owe Hasbro NOTHING. Hasbro is the company and they design/make the products. I have bought brand new non-Hasbro toys whose retail price is $15-25. The company making these dolls somehow makes them have wonderful quality, barely any flaws (I have had 2 issues total out of 19 dolls and one issue was very small), and awesome clothing/wigs. And because ponies are far simpler, they don't need all the assembly that the dolls do. Hasbroken can do better as proven by other toy companies with much higher quality products in the same price range, but they choose not to. That's not okay with me.

They also sell collector Barbies right next to normal Barbies, so being on the toy aisle doesn't really change that. The fact still remains that this set, White Celestia, and Zecora are collector oriented. Sure kids will probably like them too, but collectors and bronies have been begging for more show accurate toys, background character toys, and a white Celestia. Hasbro finally listened.

In never said it was acceptable, I said it is not uncommon and while it maybe an "expensive set" it is still being sold elsewhere and made available to the main stream market for My Little Pony which is little girls.  In G3's there where several collectors sets that where sold in main stream markets and as such came into the hands of kids which is again where they mainly marketed too. Should parents accept this no, do they most of the times yes because it is easier for today's busy parent to not worry about it then try to contact a major company and complain.  Do some parents complain, yes I am sure they do.

To be honest if you are that unhappy with there level of product then do not buy it.  Your pocket book speaks the loudest.

And finally quality has always been an issue with Hasbro, they have to package there product to prevent thief and look good on the shelf.  G3's had the same issues, from hair in neck seams to dents in legs.  This is nothing new! And before anyone thinks we "old" collectors used to let this slide we would contact Hasbro about it all the time, and be told they would look into it.

Looks like the blister is so tight it bites, quite counter intuitive for packaging material.

I know on the BB collection, I had to try like heck to pop them out. I'm sure kids have just as much fun.

They were pretty tough to get out of that yeah (not to mention my Pinkie can't stand up properly lol)

Every time I open a G4 I get irritated by how many layers of plastic there are and think that surely if I have trouble then kids must be driven mad trying to get their ponies free. Having to remove sticky tape and pull hair through holes in plastic, pull things off hair and pop ponies out of plastic shells, gah! They all come out with dry hair that needs conditioning too. Or maybe I just fail lol :P

Surely they can think of a better way to package them, I've never before bought anything else that gets damaged by packaging. And just... so much plastic, rawr!

I encourage everyone who's had issues to call, e-mail, or contact customer support via chat.  Because Hasbro might change things if they know there's a problem, but they definitely WON'T change things if they DON'T know there's a problem.

Yeah, MLPs are not expensive toys, but honestly I don't think this would even be hard to correct if they changed the packaging a little.   Here's what I'd do, if I were them:  pony's mane and tail each in a rubber tie, with another tie fastening the hair to the nearest leg.  (This keeps the hair from getting tangled or looking unseemly.)  Then put a bubble over the pony to attach it to the cardboard, like with G1s.

I mean, it would probably SAVE them money on packaging.

Just because something has "always been this way" doesn't mean it's okay to just shrug your shoulders and keep buying toys with low quality. Yes G3's had quality flaws, yes even G1 had quality flaws, but nothing is going to change if no one says anything to Hasbro. Hasbro is not going to get off their duff and work to improve things if they hear no complaints. (Yes I know they probably won't change things anyway, but they certainly won't change things if no one says anything!)

In college my environmental teacher told us a story. Back quite a few years ago, McDonalds used to package their Big Macs in styrofoam clamshells. My college professor gave extra credit to all his students if they wrote to McD's and complained about the packaging, and showed proof that they sent the letter. And you know what? Eventually the packaging DID change! Maybe the letters had nothing to do with it, you say? Maybe, but maybe not.

Fact is, Hasbro is NOT going to change if no one says anything. Yeah they might not change anyway, but it's not like no company has never acknowledged the complaints of their customers. It could happen with Hasbro.

Yes it's true there's 7 ponies in the $40 set and that comes out to $5.70 per pony. Yes it's true that these are kids toys and kids/parents buy them, and kids might not care as much about quality control. But Hasbro DID advertise these sets are being made specifically to acknowledge the collectors out there, so they should expect that collectors want quality products. That's all there is to it.

Just because these toys are cheap and affordable does not mean we should accept flaws that can easily be corrected.

Nothing changes if everyone keeps silent.
