« on: February 06, 2023, 10:23:24 PM »
It's been awhile since I have logged in to the arena, just been busy with a lot of RL stuff. Do we have any news or updates about new Basic Fun G1 Retro ponies for this year?

Pony Corral / Accidently threw it out (or donated it) thread
« on: July 28, 2022, 12:57:02 PM »
I just realized today when looking across mommy charm type items on the mylittlewiki that I donated a McDonald's MLP bookmark a couple years ago without even realizing it. We were cleaning out my parents garage (think hoarder level of mess/clutter) and when I saw the bookmarks on the wiki today I remembered seeing a pink pony bookmark just like those in a box of random cheap stationary type stuff (pencils, pens, notepads, old shaped erasers (stuff we used to get in our Xmas stockings), etc. Oh well.

What have you thrown out (or donated) and realized it later?

Pony Corral / G1 Petite Ponies Question
« on: July 27, 2022, 09:34:37 PM »
I decided about a week ago that I might start collecting petite ponies, but before I do I was wondering a couple things.

1) Which ones / sets are the most common?
2) Who / What set are the rarest or most expensive?
3) What range is a fair price for your average single petite pony?

Off Topic / Anyone have orchids? Got some questions...
« on: June 08, 2022, 05:47:20 PM »
My husband was given a small orchid about a year ago. Basically we just put it in the kitchen window, watered it once a week and left it alone. So far we have managed not to kill it, yay. It is your average phalaenopsis orchid. However, I did repot it into an orchid pot about a month ago and noticed black stuff around the base. So I Googled and figured out it looks like crown rot, and saw some videos about how to treat it with hydrogen peroxide (to kill the fungus) and ground cinnamon, which I have not done yet as I am trying to figure out if I really want to try that out at the moment. After I repotted it a month ago it started growing an aerial root and a new flower spike (or at least I think it is a new flower spike, growing next to the old one I cut off since it was brown and is growing very slowly compared to the aerial root). Since I just repotted it, and it's growing new things I don't know that I should disturb it.

1) What if I don't treat the crown rot? Will it recover on it's own given time?
2) Anyone treated crown rot on an orchid? Did you use the hydrogen peroxide and ground cinnamon or something else?
3) If I do treat it will it hurt/stop the new growth?

Thanks in advance  :)

The Dollhouse / Madame Alexander Dolls - Help Needed
« on: July 12, 2021, 02:25:21 PM »
Backstory: My mother-in-law has a very large collection of Madame Alexander dolls from across multiple decades and ranging in a variety of sizes. Quite a lot of them were removed from their original boxes (boxes were kept, she flattened them all for storage reasons). Because of various health reasons she can't physically do much (she is not bedridden, but does have to spend almost all her time laying down) and her eye-sight is not the greatest at this point. So the process of identifying the dolls and trying match the dolls to their boxes (or wrist tags that were removed) is up to me and my husband.

Does anyone know of any good identification sites to help identify doll lines or which years they may have been produced in? I know that the names of the dolls are often on the dress, but a number of them were produced multiple times in different but similar outfits. (Betsy Ross, so far I have found 3 versions in her collection, but no way to identify the year) or ones like "Little Women" were produced so many times as well as the "international" type dolls.

Also, the rubber bands inside some of them need to be replaced. Has anyone ever replaced these, and do you have a specific place you get the rubber bands from? I have watched a couple youtube videos and it seems simple enough, but wondered if anyone had personal experience doing it and if there was a specific place online that you prefer the bands from.

Lastly, if anyone knows the difference between a "bent knee" and a "walker" Madame Alexander doll and how to identify them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Off Topic / Mattel announced Barbie will be made of recycled plastic
« on: June 21, 2021, 08:00:40 AM »
So I was going across the Barbie collector website this morning and came across a few interesting things.

Mattel plans to make Barbie out of 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastic materials in their products and packaging by 2030.

They apparently already released one collection made from 90% recycled ocean-bound plastic. "Barbie Loves the Ocean Collection"
http://www.barbiemedia.com/news/detail/170.html

What are your thoughts?

1) My thought is that while that sounds like an interesting idea, it makes me wonder the long-term stability of the products. Will these dolls "go sticky" or deteriorate in other ways within 5 years or 10, or will they be able to hold up long term. After all, we all know what has happened to the 80's vinyl dolls, and older ones from previous generations, let alone G3 mlp (which some started going sticky/changing (Divine Shines for example) a LOT faster than the older 80's dolls).

2) I wonder if this would create a demand for the older dolls once all new ones are made from recycled plastic.

Off Topic / Mattel Wants You To Send Them Your Toys
« on: May 10, 2021, 03:57:27 PM »
Article:
https://corporate.mattel.com/news/mattel-launches-new-toy-takeback-program-called-mattel-playback

In summary, Mattel wants you to mail them back (for free) your old Barbie, Matchbox and MEGA toys for recycling (melting down, repurposed etc.)

What are your thoughts? Here are mine:
1) This could potentially create a huge after market (Ebay, etc.) for toys and skyrocket prices in the future.

2) As a consumer, I would have some concern over the toys I purchased for children to play with that were made with recycled plastics from other toys, especially depending on the age of the child it was purchased for. As MLP collectors, we already see the effects of plastic breakdown in G1's from age and possibly mixing old and new batches of plastic. We also know that some G3's can be sticky and have plastic breakdown issues and these are not even 20 years old. For those of us that also are Barbie collectors or have childhood Barbies, certain years of Barbie dolls already have issues with the plastics that were used in her legs, let alone the breakdown we see in other doll/toy lines from the 80's.

3) Potential impact on toy donations to charitable organizations.

4) Not sure how many people would actually go for this. If they really wanted this to be effective, they would need to have some sort of buy back program or other incentives.

Pony Corral / G1 - Cleaning Question - How do you get the tail back in?
« on: February 06, 2021, 07:18:45 PM »
A dumb cleaning question I know. How do you get the tail back in the pony after you decide to remove the washer?

So I bought used a So Soft Paradise today and decided to try and clean the flocking (which I have never tried before). So I rubbed her down gently with Dawn and ended up getting her pretty wet. I noticed the head was a little loose and figured what the heck so tugged it a little and it popped right off. So now that I can see the washer, decided it looks a little icky (again, never done this before). So now that she is set out in pieces to dry, I'm wondering how you get the tail back in? I have already looked at the mlp preservation project links.

Okay so I just did a double take cruising down the Big Bad Toy Store website. Now there are even more crossover ponies coming out beyond the first four. Twister, Lite-Brite and a Dungeons & Dragons Set. Thoughts?

I actually do like one of the Dungeons & Dragons Set, but not going to buy them for that much, and if only they had actual hair. Does anyone own these? Kind of curious what "Woodheart the Kind" looks like in person out of the box.

Pony Corral / G1 Diamond Dreams Question
« on: August 03, 2020, 10:10:09 AM »
So I was randomly cruising across Ebay today and saw Diamond Dreams. Then I looked at what she has sold for on Ebay. So my question is why is she so expensive? Is there something particularly unusual about her or Merry Go Round ponies in general? I picked up a Tassels last year at a swap meet for $10, so the prices I saw today were surprising.

Pony Corral / Bow-Tie Question
« on: April 07, 2019, 02:46:15 PM »
Is there a way to tell the difference between a year 2 Bow-Tie and a year 3 Bow-Tie. Are they slightly different colors or anything else that stands out? I picked one up yesterday and the mane hair has this little tiny flip on the very bottom of the hair so it is more than likely a Year 3 right? Since year 3 had a bit of a curl to it and in played with condition the hair would be more or less all combed out.

Pony Corral / How rare are TAF Baby Ponies?
« on: April 06, 2019, 11:28:08 PM »
I was wondering how rare the TAF baby ponies are. Are certain baby TAF ponies more sought after than others? And if you have any I'd love to see them please.

Pony Corral / G1 Vintage Pony Charms Question
« on: March 30, 2019, 05:14:21 PM »
I know about the mommy charms, but does anyone else have any of the other pony charms that existed? Or any of the vintage kid jewelry with charm like ponies from the 80's.

I know Firefly did, and saw a Blossom jewelry one online, as well as Medley from searching images on google.
Just curious who/what exists.

Pony Corral / 35th Rainbow Ponies Hair & Size Question
« on: August 12, 2018, 04:02:28 PM »
Has anyone deboxed the entire set yet?

I know they are just starting to be found in stores but now I am curious of something. I unboxed my 35th Skydancer today and discovered that she has product in her forelock. I am wondering if they all do.

On a different observation, I thought she looks just a tiny bit smaller (not that obvious) than my G1 Skydancer. Does anyone have comparisons of the new rainbow ponies next to the G1 rainbows?
