You are all too kind! And I'm pleasantly surprised to report I've had several people express interest in the collection, so hopefully we can keep these beauties together. :) It was a labor of love to collect them over several years. I'll be honest too that I had private offers for very rare items, and also had other collectors who would give me heads up about auctions even when I hadn't noticed them. It helped to have a reputation for wanting all things sea pony. :D Everyone back in the day knew I wanted to gobble it all up so the whole community helped me curate. :)

Thank you both for the replies!

The one I'm most surprised about is Hollywood. I can't believe how cheap she has been lately on ebay! If I recall correctly she used to go for around $400 about 15 years ago. My memory may be wrong on that, but I do know she was highly sought after and pricey. So strange!

Pony Corral / Price check - G1 mail orders
« on: May 26, 2020, 09:49:57 AM »
Hi! I am selling my G1 mail order ponies. Hopefully this isn't breaking any forum rules to ask for a price check here, since I already have them posted in the For Sale - For Auction section while I try to work out prices. If it does break any rules, moderators can delete or message me as appropriate. :)

I've found some of them as recent sales on ebay, but am having some trouble finding others here or there. I'd love to save the hassle of ebay listings, but I also don't want to undersell here since there is a smaller market of buyers.

I have virtually every MO except magenta Satin 'n Lace and one of the sparkle ponies. So I pretty much need price checks on everything. :D Would especially love advice on Mommy & Baby, Hollywood, Rapunzel. Oh, heck, I'd love help with all of them. LOL. Assume very good used condition for all of them.

Thanks in advance! By way of background - I haven't actively bought new ponies in over 10 years, so I really am out of touch with current market. I used to be very well known in the community but have been MIA for quite some time. I promise I'm legit though. :)

I should add that I'd appreciate market advice in general. Including whether listing on ebay is the smarter move right now. Or whether Covid-19 has had much effect on sales. It doesn't seem like it from what I've noticed. But again, I'd love any advice.

Pony Corral / Re: MOC Mommy charms
« on: May 26, 2020, 08:10:01 AM »
The watercolor baby sea ponies definitely had charms. I'll go take some pics. :)

Post Merge: May 26, 2020, 08:41:45 AM

Alrighty then. Here are my pics. As you can see, the same charm didn't always come with the same pony. If anyone wants more pics or has questions about these let me know!

Wow at the number of PMs I have! You all are awesome. I'm going to do my best to get some prices posted as soon as possible. It will be so nice to know these beauties will eventually go to loving homes. I've had most of them for 15-20 years and it will be hard to say goodbye.

Hi tebrighteyes! OMG, yes, I was there! And yes, it probably was a good 15+ years ago. Time flies.

Thank you all for the comments. It really feels like the end of something momentous to be selling, although I'm being melodramatic. And I'd gladly turn my house into a museum if I could. :D

It's a crazy idea to hope someone would buy the whole collection, but it sure would be amazing to know it was staying together, at least for a short time. Although it occurred to me someone might buy so they can sell it off one at a time. There are some in the group that are so incredibly rare I think a person could make a profit if they buy the lot and then sell individually over time.

Hello! I'm still researching appropriate pricing, but wanted to post these for viewing. All are for sale. If you are interested you are welcome to make an offer. edit -I'm starting to slowly add in prices below.

For Sale - For Auction / [[SOLD]] Full Sea Pony Collection For Sale
« on: May 25, 2020, 01:53:22 PM »
Update #2: The collection has been sold. Thank you everyone for all the comments and interest. It was such a labor of love to curate this collection over many years. It's bittersweet to sell, but I feel confident they are going to a good home.

I will be listing more MOC/MIB ponies and the rest of my non-sea pony collection over time. I'm sorry that I am very behind in responding to PMs about the mail order ponies. I should have just done the sea ponies first and then moved on. :)

Update #1: I've taken a ton more pictures from all angles so everyone can see the full condition of the boxes. Boxes tend to be pretty fragile. A few are in pristine condition and a few are pretty bad.

https://flic.kr/s/aHsmNx5SrT

I will be closing the sale by end of day Monday, June 1st. If you are interested and haven't already contacted me, please do so asap. I'm asking everyone for their payment terms (whether they can pay in a lump sum or need payments, and if so, how long will the payments take), whether they plan to keep the collection intact, and if they have any counteroffer.

I really want this collection to go to a very good home and am thrilled about the interest!  :)

Original post:

Hello!

It's official, I am selling my collection. Before I start with the regular ponies, and before I start posting on ebay, I thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone wants to buy the entirety of my sea pony collection. I'm not expecting you all to beat down my door, but one never knows.

I am not selling these individually at this time. Please only contact me if you want to buy the entire collection. If no one does, then I'll start the process of listing individually.

The collection includes both loose and packaged sea ponies, plus a unique collection of sea pony paraphernalia. Pictures below. Lots more detailed information and pictures are available to anyone who is seriously interested. If I'm doing my math right there are 56 babies on cards, 4 babies in boxes, 21 adults in boxes, and 1 adult in a bag. Plus all the loose ones (about 50), accessories, books, even a lawn sprinkler.

Asking price for the entire collection is $15,000. This is not first come first served. I'll give it a week or so and then list individually on ebay. If there is more than one person interested in the entire lot I'll have an open dialogue with you.

Boxes and cards include:
      1) Every US adult and baby in box or on card with the single exception of Year 3 adult Wave Jumper. Five bonus Watercolor babies with mommy charms. Bonus Year 2 adults with variations in the packaging and comb colors. Bonus Year 3 adult Sand Dollar in a wholesale bag without shell. Bonus P&P baby Sun Shower packaged with a Beachcomber sticker. Bonus TE Galaxy and TE Fizzy on incorrect P&P cards. Party gift pack (two of them, actually. One isn't in great condition but I'd include it if desired.)

      2) One of three UK adults in box. Four of five UK babies on card. All three Italian in Italian boxes. All three Italian plus the one variant in Belgian/Dutch boxes. All three Mexican in boxes (albeit they are in horrible condition). I also have a duplicate Belgian box.

      3) Foreign package variations for babies including 4 Belgium/Holland, 3 Canada, 1 Germany, 1 Italy, 4 UK (in addition to the unique ones noted above), 4 France.

Loose ponies are pictured but I need to clean them up a bit still. Also, I do have the fifth UK variant baby pretty & pearly sea pony, I'm just not sure where. I had it in pictures years ago on my old website so I do still have it. It's just not in the pictures.

If you want to see more individual pics of the loose ponies you can go to http://geocities.ws/mlpwhizzer19/seaponies.html. I've added to the collection since that site was created, but the individual ponies are still the same ones. Just older and a bit dustier from having been in storage. :) Note: You'll get a lot of spam websites that will pop up under a separate window, but as best as I can tell the geocities site itself is safe.

Introductions / Re-introduction
« on: April 13, 2018, 12:50:09 PM »
Hi! I'm not new, but I haven't been around for several years. Figured I should re-introduce myself. :)

I used to be very active on the old MLPTP under this same username. Looks like most of my posts here (although there were never a ton) are no longer available. Oldies would know me from the site I ran a million years ago called Sea Pony Utopia.

After many years of bittersweet contemplation I have finally decided I am selling my collection. It includes dozens of MIB/MOC G1 ponies and other items, hundreds of loose G1s, all or almost all G1 mail orders, 1st and 2nd year G3s, etc. Only a couple non-US ponies. Will be sorting through everything and taking pics in the next several weeks, and probably will post ebay links here.

Hi to anyone old like me who may remember me, and hi to those I never met!

I will admit I am mighty confused by it all and am swinging from "yes, I think they were made in mexico from what it says on the box" to "no, they are all wrong for a Mexican pony and must be HK made"

That makes two of us!  :)  I can't decide if the differences I've noticed in the plastic are legit or not, and can't decide if the packaging is honest or not.

Thanks pkw!

I think my main question relates to the fact that the boxes specifically say made in Mexico.  I've got baby sea ponies on cards from Canada, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy.  Not one of them says that the pony was made in that country.  All but the Italian card specifically reference Hong Kong.  The Italian one doesn't say where the pony was made, just that it was licensed to DAG (or something to that effect).

It just seems strange to me that this one country would claim to have made the ponies locally if they didn't.  :(

Hi all!  I'm bumping this back up, because I now have in my possession the three watercolor baby sea ponies that were released in Mexico, with their original packaging, and I've done a rather minute inspection of them.

The problem is that their tail stamp is (virtually) identical to the regular US release.  Also, there is nothing about their coloring that is unique, although it may be a little different.

Here's what I noticed:

Spray, known in the US as Foamy, came with a yellow ribbon instead of orange.

All three seem to be made of slightly softer plastic.  This is hard to really judge, but there is a consistent slightly squishier feeling about all three when compared to their US counterparts.

The content of the tail stamp on all three is the same as the US ponies, but doesn't seem to be stamped into the plastic quite as deeply.  I had more trouble reading the writing on the Mexican ponies compared to the US ponies.  The firmness/deepness of the tail stamp is uniform on the Mexican ponies, and uniform on the US ponies, but not uniform when comparing one group to another.

All three seem to be slightly paler in color.  Watercolor babies can definitely vary in color, but there is a uniform discrepancy between the Mexican ponies and their US counterparts.  I actually have two Surfys and they are both the same slightly paler color, while my US Wavedancers are darker.  There is variation between my Wavedancers, but even the palest one isn't as pale as Surfy.  Salty even seems pink, whereas Misty (her US version) is very orange.

Finally, the box very definitely says Made in Mexico.  There is no mention of Hong Kong anywhere on the packaging at all.

I know virtually nothing about Mexican MLPs, but would this not all indicate that they actually were made in Mexico, rather than simply being repackaged versions of the US ponies?  Or am I just being too much of a wishful thinker?  It'd be lovely if they are unique.

I'll snap some pics and add them to the thread soon!!  Probably not today, but hopefully tomorrow.

Aww, I'm a sad panda.  I'll be out of town that day.  It's been ages since I've done anything pony-related, this would have been fun!!

Sadly, this is one of many areas that I should have updated long, long ago on my site.  I keep saying that one of these days I'll redo the site with more details, but I'm not sure it will ever really happen.  :)  At any rate, here are some pics for you, albeit poor quality.  Pink-haired Maristella was only produced in the Dutch box, not the original Italian box.  (I don't believe there is any difference between the ponies themselves, just the boxes.)

Here are pics of the regular Maristella and the variant, with and without boxes.  :)
