Pony Corral / Stable Diffusion: AI Generated Pony Pics!
« on: October 30, 2022, 02:26:59 PM »
AI is one of my BIG special interests, and I love using it for fun as a hobby.
I'm sure some of you have seen DALLE, the image generating AI that's been going around the past few months. Stable Diffusion is similar to DALLE, but is more accessible, able to run locally as an app on a regular PC. Recently, I found a finetuned Stable Diffusion model that someone trained to draw ponies.  Mainly G4 fanart though.

I decided to modify this model with an addon to be able to generate pictures of pony brushables!!  I showed it around 60 pictures of various brushables from every gen, and it eventually figured things out. Here's some examples:

I want to make extra addon files that teach the AI about each individual generation too, so that people can request specific gens.
I might release the files for these little addons, along with a tutorial on how to set up Stable Diffusion and play with them yourself. For now though, feel free to ask questions, or even request a picture idea for me to generate!  :frolic:

Arts & Crafts Corral / Sami's Ponification Nonsense (All Gens)
« on: December 01, 2021, 07:00:15 AM »
I honestly think bronies sort of had the right idea with turning random things into ponies.  So screw it, cringe culture is dead, here's a thread where I'll try to turn characters from series I like into ponies.

Things will probably be based on a mishmash of my favorite lore bits and design choices from various gens, because I can't get myself to choose just one gen to use aspects from ^^;

Blocky (Battle for Dream Island)
  • I based his proportions off of a G1 big brother pony
  • His colors are a bit off bc I went out of my way to loosely base them on G1 MLP toy colors rather than Blocky's exact colors.
  • His symbol/cutie mark is a jack in the box instead of his body asset bc I felt like using the asset is lazy + I like the G4 cutie mark lore!  I wanted to make it something that mixed his personality with his object so I chose the jack in the box because he's a prankster.
  • I think that his pony name would be something like Jack in the Block.

Feel free to leave replies!  I want to try and make this a thread I regularly use.

Finally got around to updating this sorter again!  I added a few ponies onto all of the gens it already has.  It's pretty tedious adding every pony one by one, but at least I made progress!

« on: September 01, 2021, 02:28:38 PM »
I recently bought a Unicorn Charms Izzy, and I love her!  But two (very minor, but still) quality issues I noticed with her are:
- Her tail seems to have slightly cheaper hair than her mane??  Maybe I'm just imagining it, but it looks a tiny bit messier and frizzier than the mane, even after some combing.
- The rubber band that held some of her hair down around her back leg actually left blemishes!  When I took them off, they left marks that wrap around the leg where they originally sat.  The marks are slightly indented and look to be stained a little bit pink (the color of the rubber bands).  My phone camera messed up the colors a bit, but here's a picture.

Other than these things, she's great!  But has anyone else noticed any issues like this?  I'm curious about whether they're a one-off problem or if they're common.

This was fun!  I think a lot of the G1 are missing though.
Yeah, it's still a heavy WIP, most ponies are missing in general.  I'll try to keep adding ponies from time to time though!  I have to do it by hand, so it's a little time consuming.

Updated to include at least one from all major gens!  That means every gen except G3.5 and Pony Life.

Here are my results so far!  Feel free to share your own results in this thread.

Pony Corral / WIP MLP Character Sorting App!
« on: May 03, 2021, 05:20:24 PM »
It's still a heavy WIP, but I made an MLP themed version of one of those character sorting games!  Right now there's only a few G1s and the two My Pretty Pony releases, but I'll see if I can add as many characters as possible!  I'm going to focus on the toyline, so FIM-exclusive characters probably won't be added unless I somehow add everything else and still want to keep going.  Alternate releases won't be listed as separate characters unless they look especially different in terms of colors, race, or design traits.  Going by this, different poses of the same character probably won't be listed.

https://raytrac3r.github.io/charasort/

The way it works is pretty easy.  When you start the tool, it'll show you two random ponies.  Click the image of the one that you prefer, or click the 'tie' option if you can't make up your mind.  After you've done that, it'll show you two more ponies, and the process continues until you've seen every pony within the game at least once.  At the end, you'll be shown a chart with every pony you've seen, sorted from most favorite to least favorite!

I think it'll be very helpful, while personally I do have a few definite favorite ponies, I tend to have trouble making up my mind whether I think one is better or not.

Please note that it's copied from an Touhou Project themed sorter with free-to-use code!  There might be some things I haven't changed to fit the MLP theme yet.  Also, the filters aren't super useful yet, considering that there aren't very many ponies in the tool's database yet.  At the moment, some filter options will end up leaving you with no ponies to choose from!

Pony Corral / Price Check on MIP G2 Seabreeze?
« on: May 02, 2021, 02:03:59 PM »
Hello!  A few weeks ago my parents bought me a G2 pony as an early graduation gift.  I was confused at her weird packaging, but then found out that she's actually a MIP Seabreeze! I was so surprised when I realized.  I'm not super into MIP ponies because I prefer a toy that I can easily take photoshoots of and display in interesting ways, and I don't want to open this one because that's one less MIP pony in the world, so I'm going to try to sell her and use the earnings to buy a loose Seabreeze!

The thing is though, I have no idea what price she should be.  I think she was bought for around $75 USD, but the only online listing I could find for a MIP Seabreeze listed her at about $300!  That's a pretty big range, so does anyone have a good price estimate?

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Appraisal AI
« on: March 04, 2021, 11:37:07 AM »
Thanks for all the feedback!

I've messed around with things a bit more by cleaning up the dataset a bit to take care of outliers (in this case, ridiculously cheap or especially pricey ponies), and I've also tweaked a few training settings.  Specifically, I've set it to create a backup file every time a stat called 'validation loss' hits a new record for lowness.  That means that the best versions of the model will be preserved for me to save!

These changes have definitely helped.  The newest guess for our testing Valenshy is $15.91, MUCH closer than before!

This seems like a great and impressive idea !
I'm trying to think of more or different criterias to describe the pony's condition, such as :

- Damaged by acne cream
- Sunburnt
- Chewed body
- Missing body parts
- Plasticizer leakage
- Faulty electronics
- Faulty mechanical parts
- Smoke damage (cigarette smell/yellowing)
- Rotten hair
- Faded hair (Fading Pink,...)
- Unsealed head
- De-tinselled
- De-flocked
- Damaged flocking
- Restored
- Rehair
- Mint/MIB/MOC
- Damaged card/Box

Maybe I will come up with more. I hope that helps !

Have a nice day !

Rose.

Thank you!  I'll look into adding some of these!  Some of them, like MIB, might be a little tricky to add because it'd require me to add a new category to the dataset, which would require a bit of an overhaul of the system I've got going on, but I'll see what I can do!

Pony Corral / Pony Appraisal AI
« on: March 03, 2021, 08:26:47 PM »
I already posted about this in the offtopic pony thread, but I think I'll make it it's own thread.

One of my hobbies outside of MLP is machine learning.  To practice coding my own AI, I'm trying to create one that guesses the price of ponies!  Hopefully the long-term goal would be to use it as a tool to price sales, but right now it's far away from there.

It's kind of a pain to collect data for this thing, so here's how you can help!
  • Have a pony that you own and know the price of.  It can be one you're selling or one you bought for yourself recently enough that you remember how much you paid.
  • Identify the pony!  While I'd prefer to know the exact set the pony came from, just the name is fine.
  • Make a copy of this spreadsheet, then fill it out with details about the pony.  It'll generate a code that'll let the AI know what kind of condition the pony is in!
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zNwxM6SXYM4RXn3gAjUONDb7k-x5VhMpbhz7bHTPbtM/edit?usp=sharing
  • Post the price, identity, code, and any extra information here!  I'll see if I can get it added to my dataset to teach the AI!

An example of one of the AI's latest guesses: it guessed that this Valenshy is worth $9.61 just now.  It's actually worth $14.98, so that's a loss of $5.37.  Still needs some work, but it's a start!

Good lord this also reminded me of that one episode where a Fashion-designer unicorn that Rarity has a crush on comes to town. As soon as he sees Applejack he's in love with her, and he says something like "I've always admired the work-ethic of earthponies."
What's that in reference to?  Is it a reference to a race or something in the real world or is it just because it generalised earth ponies as being all the same?
I don't think it's a reference to a specific race, but I think it's a reference to how some people come up with """positive""" stereotypes of races that are usually completely incorrect and sometimes even fetishize those people. Like how some people put Native Americans on a pedestal as mystical woodland people of grace and mysteriousness, or how some people think all Asians are geniuses.

At best, it's very creepy, and at worst, it can actually lead to specific people being bashed for not being exactly like the stereotypes.  Plus it often leads to cultural appropriation, such as people using Native American symbols for the 'aesthetic' and completely misusing them in a way that's taboo to the actual natives.

Posting this here because it's a project still in the very early stages, and I might end up scrapping it if I decide I'd rather work on other things.

Another one of my non-pony hobbies is machine learning.  I've never had any formal education on the subject, but I still enjoy it.  I've been playing around with training an AI to appraise pony prices!  It's still a heavy WIP, but it seems possible from the experiments I've done so far!

I give it all sorts of details, like generation, values representing the condition of the pony, and even a few seemingly arbitrary things like pose and race.

Right now I have very little data, but it seems to work okay!  I tested it on this Valenshy listing (that it hadn't seen before), and it guessed that she was worth $11.08.  A little hyperspecific, but not too far off.

I kind of wonder if anyone who customizes actual MLPs has tried to make their own 'fakies' of sorts.  As in like, making a brushable pony from scratch without using a bait pony as a base for a custom?

I mean, if obscure bootleg companies can make low quality ponies from scratch en masse, wouldn't it be possible for a person to make at least one higher quality pony from scratch themself?  Plastic casting and 3d printing are both things that are somewhat accessible to normal people, even if full toy companies have better access to it.  And plenty of websites sell premade doll hair.

Imagine how incredible this would be.  If the plastic ends up comparable to actual ponies, it would be great for replacing heads or bodies that are damaged beyond repair.  And even if it isn't, it'd be great for making customs without ruining a potentially salvageable G1 pone.  Hell, you could even make a pony that isn't based on any actual Hasbro-designed generation, and create the ultimate pony design!

Has anyone ever even attempted this before, and if not, do you think it could be possible someday in the future?

I love Popee! I didn't even know there was merch.
Yeah, there's actually a surprisingly large amount of official Popee merch!  Unfortunately I can't find much online about most of it, but the most well-known merch is the figures.  Like I said, a lot of it is Japan exclusive and has to be imported or bought from other fans.
