Off Topic / Re: Have you ever been in a natural disaster?
« on: February 23, 2023, 12:23:44 PM »
Been through a few:
1. Hurricane Sandy in 2012, worst so far (3ish days without power)
2. Tropical Storm Isaias in 2020(?) (3 days without power)
3. Earthquake in 2012(?) that was located in Washington DC
4. 2nd Earthquake in 2016, though weaker than the other one
5. Severe storms at various times
6. Snowstorms at various times
7. Flooding (though none of the cases have been directly impacting where I live)

I know the feeling. I've had those teeth and 4 other teeth taken out at separate times. Not a fun time, especially the first time when I was a kid.

There's a hybrid Baby Alive/MLP G5 doll out now. Apparently has Izzy and Sunny available.

Pony Corral / Newish variant of "Rainbow" by Sia

I have to say this version is quite a bit better than Sia's release. Initially I thought it was just tweaked audio but it's pretty clear the effort was put in to make it a cover song. Despite the incorrect lyric that uses "face" over "pain" (which is understandable given the original lyrics can be easy to misinterpret). It has an almost techno-like and kid friendly feel to it. Apparently it was released a year after the movie came out and they have other songs they did covers for. It's like the version I didn't know I needed.

So apparently there was some sort of update to the site and that seems to have affected my ability to stay logged in on this site? When I first attempt it, I get "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again." but the 2nd time I get in, but only while I stay on the site.

China is apparently doing some kind of pony/Mr Potato Head hybrid and it's freaky.

BLAH. I wish there were Primarks in the US, or at least, more wide spread. Their stuff is so fun and it stinks that international shipping is as insane as it is at the moment.

I dunno if Kohl's is a Midwest exclusive clothing store, but here's a compilation of tees
featuring what I call the "real" mane six. They have these plus many other G1, G4 and G5
clothing items to choose from, and yet I've not once been able to find them in a physical store!
It's all exclusive to their online shop, it seems, unfortunately for me and my dyscalculia that
means I'm pretty much in the dark WRT knowing which size would fit me best (if at all).

They also have designs I've seen on a handful of other sites, including Hot Topic, but
I believe Kohl's is the only one that I've seen the ones with the individual pony on.

Kohl's is on the west coast. Those are cute.
and on the East Coast too. There's one in NJ not far from me. I like the G1 shirts a lot more.

I found a listing here for it but it is not available for pre-order yet.

I think it's cute, I'm not sure if I'll spring for it. Maybe.
You can tell they care. Look at all the work they put into just the mock-up. I swear effort like that has mostly disappeared.

Exactly!! I'm not that keen on them reusing names ANYway, but I get why they do it, I'm not complaining about that really... but at least reuse names that are *appropriate* for the new character!! I didn't know it was "Alphabittle Blossomforth" in full either, oh wow, that's just... eesh... not a fan of the human-like (as in first name/last name, I know no human would ever have those names :P) names anyway and it's just WAY too many syllables.

G5 names in general are kind of a mess, yeah. A lot of them are way too long.
At least none of them are named "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" :P

I'm not sure if this is a G4 toy that was in the back or part of the G5 line of Mane 6?

Ponyfan

Based on the artwork on the left, I'd say it's a Pony Life set so before G5.

Spoiler
Wasn't really impressed to be honest. Was left with more questions than answers when it was all done like why Sunny was just arbitrarily made an alacorn out of the blue. There was also no indication of time passage between when Sunny was young and when she was older. It just happened. I also don't understand how Izzy cut the tree down. We never see her up close. One second she's shown a distance away from the others and the next the tree's been cut down. Songs were mediocre too. It seems a few bad eggs poisoned the minds of what seemed to be gullible residents in each location. It's like the G3 era except everything has literally been dumbed down. Half the movie was also spent gathering things that in the end didn't even matter. Honestly this didn't seem any better than the 2017 movie was.

Unicorn Snot is apparently going to be/is a thing and it's a facial glittery thing but I wouldn't have called it that.

Off Topic / Favorite Powerpuff Girls Show?
« on: August 09, 2021, 08:55:11 AM »
Got through watching just about everything for the first time and here's my thoughts:
The 1998 version is the best of all. Great twists, great humor, great everything really. I couldn't for the life of me predict what was going to happen based on the story titles (and that's the way it should be). The shorts are about as good as the 1998 version itself. I relate to all 3 of the girls and it seems the single full episodes are the most entertaining for me. Criss-Cross Crisis was both really weird because of where the voices were coming from but also really funny, especially when The Professor was trying to fix things. There were a few stories that weren't as good like Paste Makes Waste but that happens in just about every cartoon. The movie was fantastic and I highly recommend starting with it if you're going to get into the series as it came first in terms of story.

The reboot, while not as entertaining, it's not that far below the original for me. I just can't really see much of a reason to hate it but apparently it bombed in the ratings. It has a lot of great faces throughout and much of the villains from the original show return. I feel Buttercup saying "Don't call me princess!" is a line the original would've said too. Manboy was kinda disturbing though but at least there were also new villains. The intro and outros are pretty catchy too. Love the little animation that plays during the outro.

Powerpuff Girls Z really doesn't compare. It may be more faithful to the original show but it falls pretty flat with me. The girls end up making up excuses to leave class instead of flat out telling the teacher they have to save the world. Even when trying to save the world, they don't seem to do much other than use whatever objects they've become associated with. (Blossom with a yoyo, Bubbles with a bubble wand and Buttercup with a hammer). There's no hand-to-hand combat like the original and in 5 episodes I watched, it was only Mojo Jojo they fought. The intro implies there are others but realistically, I can't be bothered to finish the series. It's just too bland.

The 2 specials were pretty decent. The art style was certainly different and took some getting used to but apart from that, they were pretty much the same characters from the 1998 version.
