Anyone use mod podge as a sealer???
« on: September 12, 2024, 06:23:01 PM »
I need a matte sealer I thought mod podge would work but it says it's a glue and a sealer.. does it dry hard? Do I mix it with the paint or do I place it on top of the paint??? I need to know for a pony that I'm restoring.

Mod Podge isn't very good to use as a sealant, IIRC it can turn sticky or discolor. For my customs I use Duraclear Matte Varnish, which dries matte and is very good at sealing paint.

Never use Mod Podge on ponies. Use a sealer designed for acrylic paint.

I won a custom in a contest and the customizer used Mod Podge to seal the pony.  It wasn't long before the Mod Podge failed and the pony became extremely sticky to the point that everything stuck to it.  Eventually I had to have the custom redone and the person that did it told me they had to scrape all of the paint off and start completely over.

No mod podge indeed. I've thinned the matte one with water for sealing a symbol once, and that went o-kay-ish. I used the glossy one too and the pony turned into a dust bunny :(
