Giant box of ponies for my birthday... from the trash!

This requires a little bit of backstory: my partner's uncle is a trash collector and both her aunt and uncle often frequent flea markets (I never thought about the perks of being a trash collector until I saw their house – it's full of amazing antiques and vintage items that all came off the curb!). A couple years ago, I asked them to keep an eye out for ponies for me, and gave them a brief description of what to look for. For two years, there was nothing, except one story of how someone beat them to a Show Stable full of ponies at a flea market.

Last week, my partner got a message from her aunt asking if we were still interested in ponies, because she had a “big bucket of them.” Of course I had my partner call her back right away to say YES, definitely, and also to hear more about them! She started off saying that they found them in the trash, and my hopes fell a little, because I was sure any large amount of ponies in the trash these days would be G3s. But then she went on to say that there was a baby carriage with a pink umbrella, and that some of the ponies were flocked, and I was like... wait a minute! Those sound like G1s! Sure enough, she described a few of them, and read dates off their hooves, and they were all G1s. 41 of them!

Today they arrived in the mail, just in time for my birthday! I've never gotten this many ponies at once before, and it was so exciting to keep pulling pony after pony out of the box!

I have to say, in my 12 years of collecting, I've never had a huge amount of pony luck, and I never imagined this would happen! It's been my pony collecting dream for years to find a bunch of G1s in the trash, but with so many people these days knowing they're collectables and selling them on ebay (not to mention the fact that by now most people have already gotten rid of their 80's childhood toys), I thought my chances of this happening were over. Well, I'm totally amazed, and this is the best birthday present I've gotten in a long time!

OMG! Why would ANYONE throw those out!! 

They are gorgeous! And just look at the pink still in Satin n' Lace, Raincurl and Curly Locks's hair (and BnG Ringlets by the looks of things!) What a wonderful find - you are very lucky!

Yup, that's baby Quackers in there. All the ponies have lovely, unfaded hair and there's also lots of original curls! Some of them are positively filthy, but so far they're cleaning up well. A couple are in sad shape (Moondancer has almost no symbols left and her purple stripe got ripped out, Gingerbread has lots of cancer spots), but for the most part they'll be really nice when I'm done with them!

Kind of as a side note... did any of the ponies have 'MES' written on the bottom of the hooves? There was recently a collection of ponies that went missing and your post just brought them to mind. Wow, that's amazing! That white pegasus almost directly in the middle is so pretty (don't suppose you happen to know who she is?  )! You're super lucky, congrats on such lovely new additions!

Mimic - Nope, none of these ponies have any writing at all on them, and they were found very far away from Texas. I do hope that person gets her collection back!
