Pony Corral / Re: Unpopular Pony Opinions
« on: March 25, 2020, 09:17:50 AM »
Aand, I think Tic Tac Toe is a very underrated pony. Especially the baby. I mean, look at the colours in her mane and tail! I love that colour combo!

I 100% agree with this! I've loved Tic Tac Toe ever since I was little <3 I adore how bright and colorful she is!

I love Bride pose ponies, especially the Color Swirl set. Also the Teeny Tiny Newborns (they're so small and so cute! They fit right in my palm!). I noticed lately that this is a bit of an unpopular opinion >u<

Also this is probably a super, super unpopular opinion but I actually love the way ponies look with heavy regrind. I mean the full-on polka-dotted ones. It just looks so neat to me!

Ahhh I love this, it looks amazing so far! I've bookmarked it as well. I love pony websites too, I miss the days where there were more of them.

Here's mine! <3 It's a bit messy atm as I'm reorganizing a lot of things but yeah >u<

Oklahoma cases have risen to 81 since I posted yesterday (that's 14 new cases), and there's now 3 in my county. Thankfully no more deaths have been reported at this time.

Oklahoma:

We currently have 67 cases and 2 deaths. There are 2 cases in our county currently, including one in our local hospital. We live near OSU and they've moved all classes online and shut down their transportation services. Our mayor (and now entire state) has issued a state of emergency and a bunch of public services including recreational facilities and the library have all been shut down. All bars and dine-in restaurants have been shut down and restaurants that can do so have moved to doing either delivery or drive-thru only.

My family have all been self-isolating as best we can and only going out to get absolutely necessary groceries. Even though my family are mostly healthy and aren't in the high-risk columns, my sister and I recently got over bouts of Influenza A so there's that worry. My mom has begun using gloves to interact with anything that a multitude of people have touched, including gas pumps and ATM machines, and we have a little...sanitization station (hehe) out in our garage where we remove our shoes and all clothing we went to a store in and use hand sanitizer so we can touch the doorknob on the way to the bathroom, where we then take a shower. It may seem like a bit of an overreaction but we have lots of elderly and immunocompromised people in our community and we're trying our best not to allow anything to spread if we can help it. I've also been using gloves to handle any mail/packages.

Although my sister works as a trainer at Chic-Fil-A and still has to work, they've been carefully choosing people that can take the financial hit and cutting their hours first so that people who rely on the job as their main income can still support themselves. Because my sister still lives with all of us on our family farm and mostly just has a job to build up savings and help out a bit with rent/household costs, she had her hours cut majorly. She's only working 3 days this coming up week and they're very short days. We're doing okay financially though and I still have some money saved up to loan my parents if I need to.

My sister's workplace was extremely quick to act and even before the state of emergency was issued, implemented a rule where every 30 minutes, an alarm goes off and employees must drop what they're doing and wash their hands. All employees are wearing gloves at this point as well, no matter what job they're doing. There is one person to handle the money and another to hand out the food. The managers apparently said that if anyone comes in with any symptoms of being sick, they will be fired on the spot and sent home (they're huge on not having employees work while sick anyways; if you have a fever or get nauseous during the shift they automatically send you home even when a pandemic is not happening).

We've had to resort to making our own bread and buying yeast for it online because none of our stores have any bread. Panic buying has increased since the state of emergency was issued, it seems. We were barely able to find essentials like toilet paper and even feminine products. Apparently when my mom last went out to get groceries for the week, someone shoved her out of the way to get into the store first. Absolutely unreal. There are some silver linings, though; the Dollar General down the road from my house has started closing early but they've put in place a neat rule where for the last couple hours of the day, elderly customers are given priority over other customers so they can get checked out and leave quicker. Also a lot of the elderly people in our community have taken to wearing respirators and gloves when they do have to go out.

Pony Brag Arena / This Week's Brag: TLC Lot!
« on: March 21, 2020, 02:58:26 PM »
I hope everyone has been able to keep themselves busy with everything that's going on lately. I've been doing so by spending time online shopping for ponies, since thrifting is out for the foreseeable future! I found this cute little cheap TLC lot on Mercari and it arrived yesterday. According to the seller, the lot had been stored away in a box since the 90's! They were all obviously very well-loved. They all have haircuts and various issues but I love them!

I set about cleaning them all up and making them beautiful!

First up is Baby Sweet Steps, one of the main reasons I bought this lot! She has been on my wishlist for awhile and she is just too cute with her little curly bangs <3

Then we have Beautybloom! She was in rough shape. She had nail polish on her hooves and some of her own chopped-off hair was stuck in it. Yuck! She cleaned up pretty nicely though.

Next is Sprinkles, who has been on my wishlist since forever! She cleaned up nicely with some stains. Oddly enough her tail popped out while I was washing it, so I popped her already-completely-unglued head off and pulled her washer out since it was rattling around in there. It was pristine, no rust or anything! I still took it out just to be safe before putting her tail back in.

Next is this lovely bright Bowtie, who cleaned up real nice with the exception of a smudged symbol, stains from the nail polish on her hooves, and a little bit of nail polish still left on her display side symbol (I wasn't sure about scrubbing at it anymore since I didn't want to rub her paint off...I'll give it another try soon). Her mane would not stay out of her face no matter which direction I tried to lay it, so I just pinned it back with this cute little bow barrette!

Just for giggles, I took a pic of her with my other Bowtie to compare the two. Old Bowtie is quite faded, goodness!

Next is Majesty, who was probably one of the worst of the lot in terms of condition. I wasn't able to get all the nail polish stains off her hooves, but I'm hoping that sunfading her will do the trick!

Next is Peachy, one of the few Collector ponies I was missing. She was also one of the worst and still has quite a bit of staining, but she did clean up nice otherwise!

And last but not least...er. Well. Parasol! This girl was definitely the roughest out of all of them. She's missing a tail, has smudged symbols, age marks, and staining. But she's my first Parasol, so I'll do my very best to get her looking gorgeous again <3

---

All in all I'm quite pleased by how well they've cleaned up!

Hi Light Heart! Welcome to the arena <3 There is so much to learn, so you should be kept busy for quite awhile hehe! I hope you enjoy your time here and that you're able to learn all that you wanted to and more!

I'm in Oklahoma. I had been planning on going to our local pony meet which would have happened tomorrow, but of course that was postponed because it wouldn't be safe for anyone at this time. Our county now has multiple cases of the virus. My sister still has to work and my mom has to take her since she can't drive, but I've been staying inside the house and only go out to feed and spend time with the barnyard critters (thankfully we're rural so there's no worries about me going outside in our yard). My sister knows how to make bread so she's going to be making some loafs tomorrow, since our stores are all out of bread. My mom has always bought a month or so's worth of meat and frozen it in advance, even before all this started, so we never really have to worry about food. She did all our meat shopping before the serious hoarding began. We also have our lovely, spoiled-rotten chickens who lay tons of eggs for us <3

Ponies have been a wonderful distraction from all the bleakness! I've been working on customs and craft projects including some ponywear I've meant to make for awhile. In addition to that, since the money I had saved for the pony meet won't be seeing use anytime soon, I've bought myself a couple pony things from online! I got a rather large TLC lot in today (don't worry, I used gloves to unbox them in the garage and all the ponies went straight into a bath as soon as they got inside). It entertained me the whole day because they were all rather filthy and had lots of nail polish all over them.

I have a Salty on his way here finally too! Salty has been at the top of my wishlist for awhile <3 I'm also working on restoring my Barnacle. If it stays sunny (fingers crossed!) I'm hoping to give him his third hydrogen peroxide sun soak. I have the sneaking suspicion that this might be the last one he'll need, as he's nearly blue again! After that, I'll get his symbols repainted. I ordered his hair awhile back and it's been sitting at my workbench, just waiting for him to be ready for rehairing. I'm so excited! I also have a ton of other ponies I'm restoring.

In addition to all that, I now need to put up another shelf for my G1s and rearrange my G3s to make more space so that should keep me occupied as well. I'll be able to keep busy for a long, long while!

Pony Corral / Re: Male g1 ponies
« on: March 20, 2020, 03:43:45 PM »
So I've had pretty okay luck finding my boys! Steamer I had from childhood and I found him at a garage sale in a box of ponies. I managed to find a Sunburst at $45 on ebay, I got a mint-y Daddy Bright Bouquet at a pony meet last year for $20 (I perhaps overpaid a bit but when I say mint-y I mean he is perfect, no flaws, still squishy, etc.), and more recently I've gotten Wigwam, Tex, Chief, Barnacle, and Salty for cheap on various sites like ebay, Mercari, Etsy, etc. I have noticed that, like you said, Slugger, Quarterback and 4-Speed are more difficult to find in good condition, and even the ones that are on the bait-y side tend to sell quickly. There were two 4-Speeds on Mercari recently for under $15 (I think one was $7 and one was $10) and they both sold super quick (pretty sure the $7 sold within minutes and the $10 sold within 2 days).

I would definitely say that IMO, out of all the 'mainstream' big boys (not including the rare Family Friends Daddies, Playschool/Schooltime sets, etc.) Ice Crystal is the rarest or at least the hardest to find for a reasonable price because he's so sought-after. I still haven't come across him for a low price and it sucks because he's my absolute grail ahaha ;u; I've seen a few other Mountain Boys for under $100 each but most of them were in fairly poor condition. I got lucky with my Sunburst because he has stains, but otherwise he's really nice with gorgeous uncut hair and pretty good symbols, and I'm not super picky so *shrugs* I did notice that Sunburst and Thundercloud tend to be the ones that pop up most often on the lower end of pricing.

If you're including mail orders, Tux 'n Tails is probably up there as well. He is ridiculously hard to find in nice condition for cheap. Clipper pops up a lot more often for lower prices, I've noticed. I'm hoping to get him soon. He's precious!

Now there's also the Baby Brothers to consider. Personally I think that Leaper and Racer are probably the hardest to find of those. Racer especially. In my experience the others can be found for okay prices usually, but they're also sometimes not in the best condition. I got Baby Whirly Twirl in a $9 pony bag at my local antique mall. His symbols are kinda scratched up but he's otherwise very lovely.

A lot of it also comes down to location, too. In some parts of the world it's easier to get certain ponies, while in others it's nigh impossible.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my sister also has a childhood Big Brother, Salty, who she found with his hat at a thrift store. He's still in our herd and still has his hat!

Pony Corral / Re: Is this a scoops variant?
« on: March 19, 2020, 01:25:17 PM »
Ahh yeah I saw that post too! Having looked at her for a bit I think it's possible her paint just faded weirdly. I've noticed that the cup/glass part of Scoops' symbols sometimes partially fade to blue, and the ice cream parts look like they've faded to white. I'm not aware of a variant like that but others might know more, perhaps? As far as I know there aren't any Nirvana Scoops either, but of course I'm still just a novice at ID'ing Nirvanas so I could be wrong there.

Here's the post by the by!

Edit: I did some googling and I found this one. She also had blue-ish symbols. There was also this one, who looks to be partially faded to blue.

The prototype baby boys Gametime and Sugarcake! They would have been super cute <3 I'm thinking of doing a custom of baby boy Sugarcake because I love his colors!

Also the blue Tuneful and the Fancy Swirl/Celestial ponies of course!

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Mail - Lovebeam!
« on: March 15, 2020, 01:24:05 PM »
So I totally forgot to make a brag post about this gal!

Last week I got a good deal on Lovebeam on Mercari, who has been one of my soft grails since I was little. She arrived this past week (sadly she's not as nice as I'd hoped, she had some undisclosed chew marks) but she's still so gorgeous ahhh <3 I know it's a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I adore the Bride pose, and the Color Swirl set so much <3

I also got a cheap bait lot from someone on instagram and I'm super looking forward to rehairing everyone! I've started working on Sherbet, who needed a rehair and to have her symbols repainted. I decided to repaint her symbol to match the hair she'd been partially rehaired in, as well as give her heterochromia because why not? It looks really cool!

It seems that the colors they used are Venom and White Chocolate...I need to find an alternative site to buy more of those colors from so I can finish her! Any recommendations? >u<

I will probably be doing a blue yarn rehair for Baby Firefly and a mint and white nylon rehair for Crunch Berry. Lucky has had his symbols wiped but he does still have his eye paint. I'm trying to decide whether to give him a whole new look or to just repaint his horseshoes back on and rehair him >u<; Can't decide! I adore his eyes, they're so cute.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Trying Embroidery - Steamer!
« on: March 13, 2020, 02:17:01 PM »
I saw these really neat drawstring canvas backpack things at Hobby Lobby a few months ago, and I thought it might be neat to have a fun, unique bag to take with me to pony-related events. I thought about doing fabric paint on it or something, but I've always wanted to try embroidery, so I did some sketches and decided to do a big ol' piece on the front pocket. I wanted it to be a boy pony, and Steamer was both my first boy pony and also one of my first G1s, so it seemed like the perfect choice! I bought the bag last week, started the piece at the beginning of this week, and then...

...I finished it today! There are lots of mistakes and things I could have done better, but honestly I couldn't be more happy to have it come out as well as it did. Especially since I've never tried it before...I was expecting it to be a hot mess ^u^; But thankfully it was more tedious and time-consuming than difficult! Anyhow, now I have an awesome bag for future pony events >u<

Off Topic / Re: Horses Versus Pony's (Zebras?)
« on: March 07, 2020, 04:17:20 PM »
There was a movie I watched a lot when I was a kid called Racing Stripes. It was about a zebra who wanted to be a racehorse xD So I've definitely though about it! There are actually horse-zebra and pony-zebra hybrids, although as with any domestic + wild hybrid, I question the ethicality behind it.

However, I have been riding and owning horses for well over a decade, so I can offer some input on the pony vs horse situation.

Ponies tend to have BIG attitudes. I have never ridden a pony that didn't. That's not to say they're terrible to ride, but basically if they decide they don't want to do something, they will not do it. I had been riding big ol' horses for about five years and my first actual fall while riding was from a pony named Stella. She just decided she didn't want me on her anymore and dumped me in the dirt.

Horses don't usually have this same natural predilection towards being difficult, although of course they can be ornery depending on their natural personality and breed. I generally find the bigger the horse, the more gentle and friendly they are.
