Title: Hair Question
Post by: MLPgal13 on March 21, 2018, 06:37:45 PM
I have t customized in a while. I’m asking for an experts help :)

I’m thinking of making a bride and groom pony for my wedding. Fashion style g3 or g4. How much hair will I need and where can I get the hair? Which do you think is easier to resist, g3 or g4?

FS G3's are rock hard!  It's easier to rehair a FS G4 or a 'zilla.  If you go with G3's, you'll need something like 4 hanks of hair.  Or 6.  It's an even number but I can't remember, lol!

It's been a long time since I customised a G3 Fashion Style. I only did the one but I didn't find it too hard to rehair as far as I remember. I asked about how much hair I would need as well, and got a wide range of answers, 4-6 seems the average. I think I bought 4 Hanks (or maybe jumbo Hanks?) and used less than I expected...

Can't even remember how much hair I used on my last G4 FS custom, I feel like I managed to use a  single Hank because it was just something spare I had lying  around. (and I've never rehaired a Zilla)

Personally I prefer G3 FS for their poses, prettier than the static G4 FS, but it depends on what you're going for wedding topper wise. ^.^

RetroDollsUS or Dollyhair are still the standards.

When I worked with a styling size G3, she was very hard plastic. I didn't rehair the head, but I think I used nearly half a hank just for the tail. I would guess 4-6 would be a good average.

For a G4 FS, I would say 2, maybe three if you are looking for the standard length of hair on them.

Let us know how it goes!

DollyHair shipp somewhat quickly, within a week or so atleast. However, I am not sure if its a good time to order from there currently...I have tried to contact them about an order that seems to have gotten lost in the mail but I havent gotten any response yet and its been a week.

Dollyhair is TERRIBLE about communication, I had to file a claim for a refund from them and STILL never heard a peep directly from them...
This is just my personal opinion MLPgal13, but I would go with Retrodolls US if you need to get it quickly and want good communication...

Yeah - I've tried emailing her a few times with no response. But she does always ship right? RetrolDolls have the same kind of hair?

I have noticed over the years that people have mixed experiences with Dollyhair, so you will probably always get a different answer around questions if its a good place to buy from. I have always enjoyed buying from there and have never had a package not turn up, but that's just myself.

RetroDolls has the same hair type/s, but color selections will be different. Some people have still matched original pony hair colors, but there isn't as much of a defined guide if you are looking for a very specific color to match a very specific pony. I have heard good things about them, and the seller has great reputation, from what I have noticed.

As I understand it RetroDolls has the same kind of hair and if she doesn't have a color match listed if you email her asking for a match she personally investigates it from what I understand :D

Retrodolls' manufacturer is not the same as ours. Our manufacturer is the one who supplies Hasbro and Mattel, and Dollyhair has an exclusivity agreement with them as far as retail sales go.

I'm sorry if I haven't been as accessible as I'd like to be... single mother, two kids (ages 6 and 20 months), sometimes life throws curve balls at you and you barely have time to breathe. Other times, life goes more smoothly and you have time to get to everything that needs your attention. These past couple of weeks have been particularly stressful and busy. Doing my best to lessen the load. And my baby daughter wasn't allowing me to get anything done, so I had to scramble while she took her naps. But lately, as she's a bit older now, she's allowing me to do more.

Hi there! I'm the owner of Retro Dolls US :) If you have any questions I'm always happy to answer. Best way to get ahold of me would be through my etsy shop- www.etsy.com/shop/retrodollsus
I have about 780 colors to choose from, with more on the way :) And if you need help matching a particular color, I can do so.
