Title: Hopes for the future of MLP?...
Post by: Tulips on March 24, 2017, 07:07:32 AM
I just wanted to share my personal hopes for the future of the My Little Pony show/toy line and thought it would be a fun topic to start a discussion about. Not what you expect Hasbro to do, but what you wish they'll do. It's been a while since G5 was mentioned, since G4 is still going strong.

First off, I hope My Little Pony continues into a Fifth Generation... in fact, I hope it never ends. I hope children and adults alike never tire of colourful little ponies and they always have a place in our world.

Secondly, perhaps a return of slightly more realistic features and structure. I enjoy new interpretations and styles, but there's only so much chibi I can take. If Hasbro repeats G3.5 with a TV series based on the style of the Playskool Friends Ponies I might just cry lol. When I imagine what I'd like G5 to look like I picture the Saddle Arabia delegates from FiM.

Thirdly, more movies! If Hasbro doesn't mess the coming one up too badly, I want to see more quality MLP movies in future. It might even tie in with more adult merchandise, high quality art sculptures of the characters would be awesome.

And the farfetched, an anime would be cool. Something edgy and more adult but still appropriate to the brand.

Anyone got some hopes and dreams for the brand they'd like to share? I bet G1 characters released as G4 toys is still a popular wish, count me in on that one too lol.  ^.^

It would be a neat idea to have G1 characters as G4's but I think Hasbro lost the rights to the molds and most of the names.  Sadly with the new reboot G4 and most of the episodes leaving you scratching your head wondering why you just watched that I don't really have any hope for G4 anymore.  Sorry I know it's sad to say but G4 went downhill slowly and is about to crash.

I know in the absolute minority...

I'd like the ponies to be chibi. Sort of Tokidoki-ish. No focus on a show (which I DO think was needed for G4), but more so a focus on collectability.... which can be seen in other toylines like those zelfs, or numnoms. Something inbetween the current brushables and blind bags.

I hope they get better molds for the toys!! I know they just did the reboot molds and stuff but I'm hoping.. For more dynamic poses and something of nicer quality. I don't know. I know they probably won't. I'm also already looking forward to g5-and where they take it! I'm very curious about who their mane 6 will be and what they're gonna do with them ^^

I'd like to see more variety in the characters.  We do NOT need 10,000 playsets with the same pony in them and that's why the toys don't sell very well.  Moms aren't going to buy ANOTHER Pinkie Pie just because this one has sunglasses instead of a cupcake.  But they would buy a Peachie Pie because it's a whole different pony.  Hasbro needs to get a clue instead of leaving it up to the customizers to create what they won't.

My greatest wish is for G1 characters in G4 or G5 form. Any sort of variety would be wonderful. I wouldn't mind seeing G5 revolve around a new set of characters because I am beyond bored with the mane 6. I really just want something fresh and different.

I hope that they go back to plastic ponies with brushable hair. No human forms. No blind bags. No ponies with molded hair. I just want ponies whose hair I can brush! lol

Agree!! I would add ponies that actually look like ponies. These alien/bug eyed hybrids are getting tiresome!

I hope that they make them look like ponies again and not like bird beaked freaks. I have a few of them, but I see them next to my older ponies and models and just get extremely annoyed. They're so stylized and just becoming more deformed. If Hasbro sticks with this design, I'm through.

I want G5 to look just like Rescue at Midnight castle. Very much cartoony, while still looking like horses, not deer  :pout:

Variety and good quality control!

Variety is what I'd like, and interesting ideas to keep me coming back, as well as more new ponies besides the mane six characters. 4.5 is doing well at more diverse poses, but I'd love them to continue along the line of the water-filled, glittery, etc.

How about some scented ponies? We haven't had any scented ponies in G4 yet! Or glow in the dark! G1 had so many interesting gimmicks for their sets.

More brushables, less gimmicky stuff (snowglobe ponies, giant glittery wings, etc), more variety. Then I'll be happy ;)

I want to live just long enough to see them cut off Rainbow Dash's head and put it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations being a db comes at too high a price.  I want to stare into her lifeless eyes and wave like this.

In all seriousness, I would like to see Hasbro feed the G1 nostalgia beast like they do the Transformers.  They could do it, but they seem to think MLP didn't exist before 2003 (and more and more 2010).

I hope to see the creator of pony, Bonnie Zacherle hired and handling future writing for MLP.  It would be great t see Faust and Bonne working together, actually.
I also hope to see Star Dreams nd Sunset Shimmer make appearances somewhere in the tv series- whether it's g4 or g5.

Oh yes, I've seen those before and they're a very nice style. I think they're colour changing with water if i recall correctly? Realistic designs like these with fun colours would be great!

How about they just go with Strutz ponies for G5.

Ha.

Seriously, if anyone has any of those I am looking for them.

This is just my honest opinion I do not mean any offense or hostility to those who are fans but my very honest hope for the future of MLP is the end of G4 and FiM altogether.
(Doesn't look like that'll happen soon though unfortunately for me)

Also for the return of characters from all of the previous generations especially G1. (though not all of them of course, having mostly new characters are still a must, just no more core cast focus)

I also hope for better quality control, and better design/color/symbol/theme choices, and of course, variety.

I hope that they go back to plastic ponies with brushable hair. No human forms. No blind bags. No ponies with molded hair. I just want ponies whose hair I can brush! lol

Same here

mood

(G1 TF fans don't know how good they have it is2g)

That's harsh!

But when they're done with it I would definitely bid on that head on eBay, fix up her hair and add her to the collection.  I love her colors.

I love her colors, also, though I'm not a fan of her personality.  But I wish that she wasn't the only one to be allowed to have rainbow hair.  For all that FiM has tons of different hair styles, there are sooo few ponies who get to have truly interesting coloring combos.  Outside of the mane 6 and the princesses, everyone's manes are either monochrome or monochrome with white. (Actually, that's true of 2/3rds of the mane 6, too)

So yeah,  I wish we could let toy designers actually design the ponies and then use those designs for ponies in the show.  This would help with the symbol recycling, too.

Yes! This is my number one peeve and why I actually liked the Rainbow Power line even if it was mostly just Mane 6, one repeat character, and the one new character that never appeared here.

I'm with those who want brushable hair and for the ponies to actually look like ponies.  Molded hair is so annoying.  I didn't mind the Equestria Girls movies with the first two, but I didn't like the dolls that much and anytime I went to Toys R Us for example 90% of the aisle was Equestria Girls stuff and hardly any ponies.

But, each generation the ponies get smaller and smaller and I'm worried how tiny G5 ponies might be.

It's a Babylon 5 reference.

I wish they had made the human version thing more interesting.  Make the ponies able to switch between forms at will instead of the "You're a pony in one world and human in the other and there's a version of everyone in both".  It could have interesting story opportunities and characters might prefer one form over the other depending on their personality (both all of them can use both when the situation arises).

Thats hardly original to b5 but it does sound like Molari. I guess in b5 they didnt mention keeping the tail too to get all the colors.

How would being able to switch forms at will be congruent with anything established in pony universes? At least the mirror provides some sort of believability and twilights difficulty adapting was fun.

Im sure the g5 blind bags will be so tiny that Polly Pocket can start a collection.

for G5 I'd like them to take a haitus from the show.  make 100 different brushables , throw away all pretense, and go for a full on 70s....
"COLLECT ALL 100"!

That's more a problem with this universe.  Perhaps in a future generation they could do it.
