I've never seen anything like this. Anybody got any clues?

To address a couple of suggestions already made, she does not appear to have been rehaired; her head is firmly on, although it could have been securely super-glued. I shall not be removing her head to find out, though! XD

She also does not appear to be sunfaded, although in my experience yellow vinyl does seem to handle the sun well, so there is that possibility. ;) Also, there is no metallic sheen in this tinsel what-so-ever, not even in the parts closest to the plug holes.

If she has been repinked it was done phenomenally well; her colour seems very even and I see no pinkish spots around her mane or tail.

Happy to take more picture if anyone thinks they might be able to crack the case!! :)

Huh. I've never seen a variant like this before...I take it her hoof stamps are all the same? Where did she come from? One of the ways I kind of check for rehairing is to try and spin the tail at the base. Usually they don't spin or push in easily if they're original. That's not foolproof, of course. You could also try holding a magnet up to her bottom...the washer is sometimes magnetic, and that's a good indicator as well, since most peoople rehair witha plastic zip tie :)

It really looks like a rehair to me, but who knows?

The tinsel on the brighter one actually looks like fantasy fiber to me, rather than tinsel.  It looks short and fine.  And the pink in her hair reminds me of dollyhair "kitten" since it appears to be more matte than shiny.

Either way, they're both pretty!

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the help as well as the sweet comments! :lovey:

She is marked China, and I'm pretty darn sure that she is Not a rehair: her tail does spin, but she rattles, so. :P And she has hair glued into her neck as well as a stripe of the same non-metallic tinsel glued to her back!! This all looks very factory to me, however I suppose it could be the work of a very sloppy customizer! :silly:

Concerning the colour of her mane and tail, I unfortunately do not have DHs 'Kitten' to check her against (how is this possible :drunk: ) but she was super close to 'Pink Sugar' only just a wee bit brighter. I am also noticing teeny-tiny small flecks of the tinsel broken off in her mane; not exactly something you would expect of 'newer' tinsel.

I will be taking more pictures of her later to add to the OP. I am very curious about her!!!

Its not common and in fact she is very hard to find, but during the middle years of MLP a lot of the ponies which had fading pink hair were sometimes released with a bubblegum shade or a slightly stronger fading pink colour. Moondust, Curly Locks, Steamer etc are just a few examples. I "think" its an indication that they were manufactured a little later in comparison to the significantly fading pink versions (as normally they turn up on this side of the ocean suggesting later runs). However the reason for it? Who knows; maybe they knew about the fading and were trying to improve the quality, maybe they changed hair suppliers, maybe they were simply supplied with different stock.

Congrats on her kCherry - she is stunning!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!

*nods* Sparkle pony Sunspot often has fading pink for her mane and a tail of a non-fading pink, slightly different colors.  Also, could she be a German version?  I know there were some variations on the first set of Princesses...
