Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: What game are you playing? Cont.

Currently playing AC:Syndicate on the PS4 when I'm by myself and Until Dawn when I'm with friends. Yeah, I'm a coward when it comes to horror games. :P
On the 3DS I just started Layton and the Miracle Mask.

Off Topic / Re: Let's talk languages!
« on: December 04, 2015, 01:46:56 PM »
My native language is Swedish, so anyone who wants to practice that can contact me. I'll gladly help. :)

I would say my second language is English which I learned from watching the children's channel on TV. It was packed with English and unsubtitled cartoons.

My third language would be Thai but I am way too shy to speak it out loud since it is really sensitive to sound levels when you pronounce every word. For example, Thai has the same word for "horse", "come here" and "dog" but in different intonations.

I also know a bit of French and Japanese but just enough to ask for the most basic things: food, water, finding the toilet and excusing myself.

I have the hardest to learn to read and write. I definitely go by ear and have a faint memory of reading somewhere, once upon a time, that being very common with people who have a musical ear.

Thank you everyone for the welcome! :)

Welcome to the Arena! I love spreadsheets, haha I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who uses them for personal things, not just work

I honestly don't know how I would keep my collection in order if I didn't have a spreadsheet.

Hello, I am wondering what the Y3 Rainbow set with the two extras would cost to ship to Sweden? :)

Remember to compare services between them. Some are just offering space, some will offer to renew your domain annually, some have 24/7 customer service etc. :)

Firstnamelastname - when your future employers google your name you want it to come up as a first result.

My last name has an "ö" in it and that's not a problem. My site pops up well high in results and it's easy to remember for contacts. Removing the dots over the letters is frictionless  for Swedes in general since we are used to "our letters" not being readable by browsers. Since a few years back you can register a domain name with åäö but that will make it difficult for non-Swedes to find your portfolio.

Regarding .com vs .se - the first is commonly used for commercial businesses and the other is for Sweden. In the end it isn't that much of a deal breaker. It just is a matter of taste.

If you need a place to just show your code, most employers request to see your GitHub or Bitbucket account. So I would recommend you to push some stuff there if you haven't already.

Also fun to hear that you are a front end student! I work in the business so best of luck. :)

Introductions / Hi, I'm Maria from Sweden :)
« on: November 22, 2015, 09:33:38 AM »
Hello and thank you for letting me in.  :)

Personal

My name is Maria, I'm 33 years old and I live in Sweden. I was a huge MLP fan when I was a kid. I also loved He-Man, She-Ra and Thundercats but my family thought that little girls should rather play with horses than armored angry looking dolls. In hindsight it was just the way it was and despite that I highly appreciate that I still have all my ponies from then.

In the daytime I'm a front end developer in a small scale bureau. That means I make sites look good and I code HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.

The most important people in my life are my family, my friends and my girlfriend. I live with my girlfriend and we have two dogs, a whippet and an italian greyhound. I am lucky to have my family and friends nearby too and we talk every day.

Ponies

I guess that the ponies I was gifted when I was a kid was the start of my collector frenzy even though I didn't think of it that way. I have been on and off the active collecting in adult years, mostly because collecting for me has a lot to do with finding a community and really geek out together with other fans. I just felt very lonely earlier in collecting MLP. It's easier today and I feel less lonely. :)

In my collection I focus on completing the series that I have from my childhood, G1 exclusively. I have one or two ponies from 15 different series. I use a spreadsheet to keep track of which ponies I have and which ponies I'm in need of. When I last checked I had 95 ponies on the ISO part of the list. And I haven't even written up all the various editions of each pony or series.
I have my whole collection on display in a shaded part of the living room, up high almost by the ceiling so that they are more of an interior decorating feature than just a dust accumulator.

I think that's all for now. So once again thank you for letting me in. I look forward to spending time with you. :)
