Ebay fees
« on: February 24, 2014, 10:48:46 AM »
Ok, so I recently became a seller on Ebay (exciting!) and I have sold 4 items. I just took a look at my fees and I have to admit that I did not read anything before I started selling. I was thinking "it cant be that much anyway"..
But really? What the h*ll is a "Final Value Fee on Shipping"?!

Could someone please enlighten me as to what and how much I am actually paying to sell on Ebay? Thanks! :)

I'm not sure if you're selling on eBay.com or not but this page should be helpful:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

Basically for anything you sell you should plan on about 13% of your sale going towards fees. eBay takes 10% for the final value and then Paypal takes about 3% more when you accept payment through them. In the US we get 50 free listings per month so we don't have to pay to list but the final value fees come out when we sell an item plus the chunk that Paypal takes after that.

You pretty much have to consider it as what you pay to advertise your item to the whole world.

Ebay now takes 10% off the final value of the item AND 10% of the shipping cost (so 10% of item value + shipping).  Which I think is very wrong, but Ebay figured out that some people were listing items with super low values (BIN) and adding a high overpriced shipping so that they didn't get hit with fees.  So now, everything has a fee!  Yay woo!

Actually I was really mad with one seller.  They listed these ornaments for $1 BIN with $25 shipping.  I bought two and instead of combining shipping they told me it was $52 total.  This was before the shipping fees so I know they got away with lower fees.

Ebay fees actually really suck  now. I've popped express post international on my listings to protect myself (non AU/UK/US buyers don't qualify for pack-n-track, so otherwise have no tracking) and a buyer recently enquired about FS AJ from Russia. Shipping to her would be $90. if I actually sold something to there I could lose most of my profits in fees. Also, people that sell large items and ship via courier are in trouble over this too. I also got some big fees recently over a Europe sale. I'm thinking of narrowing my sales to pack n track countries, but the new 'easy-to-list' format seems to have made doing advanced blocking harder (if not impossible, I certainly can't find it!).

In the UK we dont get the 50 listing a month for free thing :(  I would think its prolly the same or similar with other Europe ebays too, but not neccessarily.   On Ebay UK we typically end up paying around 20% (thats ebay fee, final valuation fee, paypal fee and the shipping fee  :yikes: )

Ebay fees are so high >_< I didn't sell anything for a few years then when I started selling again I couldn't believe how much higher the fees were. At least you get 12 free picture uploads though. You used to have to pay for pictures :P

This and this! ^^ I took a break from selling for a while too and the fees got ridiculous inbetween  but the 12 free pics is helpful.

Hmmmph seems the UK got the rough end of the deal again eh? we occasionally get free auction listing weekends (like this weekend). But thats about it. and it doesnt include BIN listings. Bleh! :throw:

Well we don't have the 12 pictures on the other hand ;)
It was available for only a very limited time, now you can only have them if you're selling clothes.

Yes, fee's and rules are a bit different between the sites.

Here is a link for the differences in fees by country.
