Pony Corral / Re: Price check on a Giant Frilly Frocks plush!
« on: September 06, 2019, 05:11:33 PM »
Yeah there are several giant core ponies that were released here!

As far as I know, the Frilly Frocks was only US. The person I got her from (found her through the MLP trading post forum I think) mentioned she had been shipped from the US, must of been expensive! She's got a few dark marks that I haven't ever really tried to get out, I probably should.

My Little Wiki link to them  So there's a Kimono, Minty, Rainbow Dash and Sweet Berry who were released here, and the year after Frilly Frocks was a mail order for US and Canada.

I love the other giant plushies but they'd take up so much room! Frilly is a bit of a nuisance as it is, but I wont part with her!

Oh lovely! I can't say for price but I'm interested too because I also have her. I believe I was pretty lucky, got her locally for $50 AUD several years ago.

I think mines the other variant, she has mane/tail to the floor, a butterfly backpack and the tag still.

Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro talks of phasing out plastic packaging

Definitely a more complex issue... I think it goes far beyond how these things are produced.

I would like to see a change in attitudes, but don't judge anyone, as it doesn't help.

Reconciling my interests such as collecting with my values has been tough, especially since I tend to be very anxious.

I'm emotionally attached to little plastic horses. They bring me joy, I like collecting them, and having them around. There's no point feeling guilty over that, and I always hope these kind of discussions don't polarise people. Of course it would be ideal if companies weren't manufacturing products in such a way and scale that it was unsustainable and carrying terrible consequences for the future. Plus I also worry about the human labour involved, probably most of all. Though it's hard to find accurate information about that. The impacts of this sort of thing on poorer countries.

Personally I've decided to only buy second hand ponies to add to my collection, which literally isn't a problem at all as there's no lack of supply. I really like it because it also lets me appreciate the things that are already here, what's done is done and there's no point deciding some already existing items are "bad" and eliminating them. They'll be around anyway.

The impacts of reducing plastic by a certain amount or replacing it with a different material in manufacturing is way beyond my ability to understand. If it does reduce waste/emissions then I think that's a good thing.

I have her! I may be bias since she was a childhood pony, but she looks really nice IRL. Matches the butterfly island theme.

I was quite ambivalent about the Drink n Wet babies until Rainflower came into my life. Look at her! Isn't she adorable?

I totally understand how the really artsy decorative ones can be motivating!

Personally I use a really simple version, but in A5 plain graph paper books. I just split each page in half and put each hour of the day I'll be awake in a column and write what I'll be doing during that time, and also a "Top Priority" and "To Do" box for the day.

I do headings in different colours and draw little things when I feel like it but it doesn't match all the popular styles you see online. I also use the future log! I've just started university so hopefully it will help me a lot.

Yeah!! I'm pretty new to it as a hobby, but I like reading Birdlife and watching local birds.

My partners mum is super into birding, and all field naturalist kind of stuff. She's a horticulturalist specializing in natives (I'm Australian) so the garden is designed to attract birds. They also live right next to a re-vegetation zone with a lake so its easy to not only see parrots but waterbirds. I'm starting to learn about the migratory birds.

Around the house here we get heaps of grass parrots (Psephotus haematonotus), corellas, galahs, eastern rosellas, mudlarks, blue faced honey eaters, wattlebirds, noisy friar birds, white-winged choughs (Corcorax melanorhamphos) and of course magpies. Nearby you can find spotted pardalotes, butcherbirds, kookaburras, welcome swallows, blue wrens, the beautiful and shy bronzewing pidgeons (Phaps chalcoptera)...

Visiting the lake recently are pelicans, little and greater egrets, chestnut teal (Anas castanea), cormorants, darters, freckled ducks (Stictonetta naevosa)

I've been out to some hotspots with them to watch for the birds that don't like disturbed areas too. I've seen some white browed babblers, shrikes, red capped robins, gang-gang cockatoos! And lots of little ones I can't remember the names of.

We have beautiful birds of prey too. You often see wedge tailed eagles flying around, and square tailed kites. There are a few hawks, kites and little falcons in Victoria.

I'm not an active 'bird watcher' as such, but I do love observing the birds on my walks. Here in New Zealand we have some stunning birdlife. I was chuffed to see some Royal Spoonbills the other day (google them, they have these crazy beaks :) ) and I utterly adore birdsong, especially our native Tui.

How lucky!! I would love to travel to NZ and spend enough time there to see some of the birds.
Royal Spoonbills used to spend some time in the creek adjacent too my grandparents property when I was a child. They're very special too see, I remember watching them in first light among the river red gum wetlands... haven't seen them for many years.
