Pony Corral / Re: Princess Cadence and Wedding Castle in our future?

That is pretty exciting! Isn't this the first male pony (besides the blind bags) we've seen since G2? I can't wait!

Pony Corral / Re: Bronies, come answer my questions!
« on: January 25, 2012, 04:29:54 PM »
By my own definition, I don't consider myself a brony. I don't want to connect myself with the whole fandom side of things - I just want to like what I like without it being a label :) But my interest in MLP was rekindled by FiM, so by definition I'm a brony (but not male! :P ).

1. How you got into MLP and why you like it.
In February, my brother told me to watch FiM, which I really did not expect from (before I'd learned about bronies). It's sincere and a pretty good show, and it reminds me of the shows I loved as a kid and the ponies I used to have. And I'm a sucker for cute, nostalgic things.

2. Single? Married? Any dads? Any moms?
I'm in a relationship, not married or no kids.

3. Do you collect or just watch the show and discuss?
I used to just watch the show, now I collect. Heck, I mostly just collect now. If I discuss, it's probably mostly about collecting rather than the show :')

4. Have you developed an interest in the other pony generations?
Oh, yes. Far more than G4 now! I've gotten really into G1s, which is what I used to have as a kid. At first, I thought they were a little strange, but there was one moment where it just 'clicked', and suddenly I couldn't stop trying to get them! I have several G3s too, but mostly because I find them in thrift stores. I only actively search for G1s and specific G4s now.

5. Any other pertinent facts I should know in order to truly understand what bronies are about!
It seems like the most obnoxious and annoying ones are always the ones people hear about most and base their opinions on. Not all pony fans that came through FiM are like them :)

It's pretty strange...Back home, I can always find G3s all over the one second hand store we have in town, Goodwill. But here, in one of the largest cities in the country, I have gone to numerous thrift stores, but not a single pony :') I've only ever found one G1 at Goodwill though, and that was my first time going there for ponies...Which got me thinking that finding G1s wasn't that big a deal, if I could find one easily the first time I tried :P Oh, how wrong I was!

This is her, Rainbow Curl Ringlet...I thought she had marker marks and such all over her body, but when I left her home for the semester they seemed to have disappeared? I'm not quite sure, maybe my mom somehow magic-ed them away while I was gone. Her hair was also pretty matted and funky, so I cleaned and recurled it. It was my first pony restoration, so it was pretty fun :)

And I'd just like to make a slighly related "congratulations", to that person that went in to the consignment shop in Philly and bought the store's entire collection of ponies (an entire binful!) less than a week before I got there. I feel so lucky to know that all those ponies were sitting there, for all these years, just to be completely swept away a few days before I come :'D

I got the Sweetheart Sisters and Baby Moondancer from sirimae :) And Celestia from Target! I already had multiples of Twilight and Spike, though, so I gave them away.

The timing of her arrival was very fortunate. I had just gotten her a few days before my grandpa died. I hadn't seen him for months because I was halfway across the country for school, so it was really tough. I got the news late at night/early in the morning, so nobody could be there with me. Flowerburst was the only thing that kept me from being alone that night, she kind of helped me cope a little bit. Or at least let me cry on her :)

The last photo I had taken with my grandpa was when I was in my prom dress, which was the same color as Flowerburst's coat. The color of grandpa's tie he was buried in was the exact same blue as her mane.

She was also the first pony whose photo made my heart drop. She's just so beautiful and elegant, and I don't think any other pony can ever take that part of my heart she's claimed :) She's gone everywhere with me since then, in a plastic baggie in my purse. I just feel more comfortable and safe, knowing she's always there with me.

These are so sweet and innocent :) Dancing Butterflies and Masquerade looked like they just popped right out of a children's storybook!

Oh gosh, you're lucky! And it's a great drawing, too :)

Pony Corral / Re: another G1 character in FiM *Spoilers*

I remember there being a pink background pony with a yellow mane/tail and a cherry cutie mark appearing every so often, so I think they did slip her in before this upcoming episode. But this definitely makes it official, being identified by name! :) I'm glad they put her in; Cherries Jubilee was one of my precious ponies as a child, and I'm excited to see her revamped.

Off Topic / Re: Curious: how did you choose your user name?
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:39:40 AM »
Cindy was a grey kitten I had when I was about 4. I was the only person she liked, haha. We only had her for a year or two before she got ill, though, and I spent the rest of my childhood missing her.

But why I chose Sydney instead of Cindy is a little confusing to me, though. I suppose it has to do with one memory from a sleepover when I was 6 or so. We were all playing some stupid game and I had to make a wish, so I wished for Cindy back. There was a girl there named Sydney and they all thought I said her name instead of my cat's, then made fun of me a bit. I got upset at them but didn't want to tell them about Cindy, so I just pouted instead :'D Again, I have no idea why that silly little memory sprang up and became part of the username I eventually chose.

And...pie, just because this is a pony site, I thought of Pinkie Pie, and I felt Sydney alone would be too bare? I'm not so sure :P

Edit: I can't type!

Off Topic / Re: What are you reading at the moment?
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:25:34 AM »
I'm reading "The Silmarillion", which is practically Tolkien's bible to the Lord of the Rings universe :') I've read it once before, but there's just so much information at once that it probably can't be understood on any level from just one read through. But what I did get from just reading it once has done so much to enrich his other writings on Middle Earth! It's incredible, what this guy had in his mind.

Edit(s): I hate typos.

Pony Corral / Re: Have you ever unboxed a MIB G1 pony.... :O
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:20:07 PM »
I just think that if you are going to de box anyhow, why not buy a loose one and let someone that wants to keep it MIB have it? Makes no sense to me buying a MIB pony so you can just debox / decard it :/

I know for me personally, it would be that bit of sentimentality. A toy that's never been played with, loved, or had its own stories and adventures, and you would be the one to "free" it and give it the life it was due. (At the hands of a collector instead of a child, though.) And the idea that you were the first person to hold it. Possibly nostalgia waves too; once again feeling like a kid that's opening their brand new ponies.

I wouldn't debox any though, although I'd be sorely tempted. But I only really want one of my personal favorite pony MIB/MOC (SHS Flowerburst) so luckily I won't have to run into that dilemma much :)
