Title: Possible convention exclusive?
Post by: Sunset on July 15, 2017, 06:41:16 AM

If this is a con exclusive, I'll be ok with it sense I don't have the overwhelming need for this one.

Though I'm worried that the new Tempest brushable is a con exclusive.  She reminds me a lot of the size and special mold they used for the Mane-iac exclusive.

The head looks like it doesn't go with the body. I'm also thinking back fin with the baloons on it looks like it should be hired up on the body/back.

My constant comment tends to be I hope they look better in person but meh, the head just doesn't look right to me.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the fin placement.  But from what I've seen, that's the way they designed them in the movie.  I think they were overthinking trying to put the symbols in the exact same place as on a pony but it doesn't quit look right on these.  * or it could be that all the hair flowing behind had the tendency to cover the fin if it was higher on the back.

But it doesn't bother me so much that I can't enjoy the pony.  While, I won't be tracking this one down, it is making me excited to see more of Princess Sky Star.

Iiiiinteresting!  The light-up button does make me wonder if it's the SDCC (and Hascon?) exclusive.  Vinyl Scratch also had the light up button and was covered in bling.

I'm fine if she is the convention exclusive because then I can save some money and skip this one, lol.  I like ponies with embedded glitter, like the Sparkle ponies, but not glued on glitter.

I'm almost positive this is the SDCC Hascon exclusive.  they do that sparkly light up stuff.

Anyone know if the SDCC exclusives are the same as the Hascon exclusives?  I know the last year (or the last couple years?) the MLP Fair got the same exclusive ponies as SDCC.

But I am wondering if Hasbro will go for unique exclusives this year at Hascon to really promote their new convention?

(For anyone who hasn't been following the Fair sub-board, Hasbro owns the rights to the MLP Fair name, and has chosen to meld it into Hascon.  If I got any of that wrong then someone please correct me.)
Title: Re: Possible convention exclusive?

It would make sense to have an exclusive just for Hascon.  It's their own event and they benefit from it directly.  Plus, by time Hascon rolls around the SDCC will be several weeks if not a couple months old news?  The thing about the Fair and SDCC is they were scheduled only a week or two apart.  Revealing the exclusive at the Fair was only worked to build up hype for SDCC for those who wouldn't go to the Fair but might go to the SDCC.

And I suppose it could be argued that there is precedence.  Remember the year DJ was the exclusive and they also released that blinged out TS on their website at the same time?

SDCC is tomorrow and still not a peep about any MLP exclusives. I think we are going to have to wait for Hascon.

It looks like a good candidate, but then again it is listed on Amazon.com, so I think unlikely.

Either way, as much as I like glitter, an easy pass for me...especially since the light up feature probably adds $20 to the price...

but I do like the looks of Gummy!

They're really keeping a lid on it this year.  I guess we'll find out this weekend.  :)

I'm going to be sad if it is the exclusive, simply because I can't get it
It's a merpony. AND glittery. Two of my favourite aesthetics, especially when combined. waaant!

BTW, one of the Transformers exclusives is a skateboard themed Optimus Prime, who comes with a minicon (who of course turns into a skateboard) named Shreddicus Maximus.  I am not even kidding, this is a real thing that is happening.

The weird thing is when I look at the TF message boards the people there are just commenting on whether they like the color scheme, not the fact that it's SKATEBOARDING OPTIMUS AND A GUY NAMED SHREDDICUS MAXIMUS.

Lol!  Almost as good as the "hair band" transformers, was that... last year? Those guys were hilarious

Yeahhh, the Knights of Unicron

They should do a pony transformer one day. They already have a Unicron unicorn and a Beast Wars horse, so only one step closer and we could have a transforming MLP.
Or what about She-Ra MLP? Swift Wind, come on! Get creative, Hasbro!

Sooooo, no actual pony figure exclusive this year?  Surely we would have heard by now if there was.  Guess they're saving it for their own convention.

Found pics online of their display.  Doesn't look like the sparkly PP is exclusive to anything that I could see.  Though there were lots of other things that are going to be Target, Walmart, and TRU exclusives.

https://news.toyark.com/2017/07/21/sdcc-2017-gallery-hasbro-little-pony-movie-toys-263642 (https://news.toyark.com/2017/07/21/sdcc-2017-gallery-hasbro-little-pony-movie-toys-263642)

**** actually, it looks like there might be an Amazon tag below the sparkly PP.  there's a separate pic of it with just the bottom of the box showing.  I didn't know Amazon was doing exclusives.  But on the other hand, that would explain certain releases like the Octavia EG and pony pack which I only ever saw on Amazon but not in stores.

From what I understand, the way Hasbro doles out its exclusives is by giving out tickets that have a specific time / day on them, and you are supposed to turn up at that time / day to stand in line.  Like one person might get a ticket for around noon, another might get a ticket for 3:00, etc . . . It's supposed to reduce the crowd around the booth (although I've also heard that Hasbro's booth is usually a crowded nightmare so apparently it doesn't work that well, lol.)

I'm wondering if maybe tickets for the MLP exclusive are restricted to Saturday and Sunday and that's why we haven't heard anything so far??

Or maybe there just genuinely aren't any, which would be sad.  I haven't been crazy about the last couple SDCC exclusives, but it was nice to know they existed.

It just seems like it would be a strange choice not to have an exclusive when this is such a big year for MLP (with the movie) but yeah, maybe they are holding back until Hascon.  I don't know why I am expecting Hasbro to be logical anyway, lol.

Edit:  I've been poking around the internet and so far all I've found is that there's an exclusive MLP poster (movie based), the Loyal Subjects figures, and enamel pins for Songbird Sia and Twilight Sparkle ($10 each).

I really like what I've seen of the hypogriff design so I really hope we get some brushables of them and not just the one huge one.  I know the sea ponies are getting the big billing right now but maybe in the spring we will get a whole slew of hypogriffs?  :) A girl can dream, right?

Only now I want a Rarity with a treasure chest full of gems and maybe a magnetic feature on her horn and hoof to hold them :(

Did Hasbro develop an allergy to magnets since the hoof heart days? On the show the ponies all seem to have magnets in their hooves the way they hold stuff without thumbs :P

Weren't there issues with the G3 magnets or was that just a rumour? There must be *some* reason why they don't use them any more. I remember the first few G2 LPS had magnets too, and the newer ones don't.

Were there? I don't recall hearing anything about them beyond that you should keep them away from electronics, as with any other magnet.

I wonder if Hasbro is trying to downplay it's role at SDCC so it can try and push all the draw that it usually generates for SDCC- to Hascon.

If they have an exclusive for Hascon we'll know for sure...

There was a rumor that some kid caused their grandmothers pacekeeper to shut down by walking a g3 pony on her chest. Don't know how true that is, but hasbro stopped using magnets on any of their toylines.

Yes, the pacemaker shutting off because a little girl trotted her G3 MLP across her grandmother's chest was an actual thing that happened, sadly.  It was in the news.

No, the pacemaker story was not real.  Here's the original post (by someone who had only been a member of the forum for a few days and never posted again): http://mlparena.com/archive/Forums/viewtopic/t=157842/postdays=0/postorder=asc/highlight=pacemaker/start=0.html (http://mlparena.com/archive/Forums/viewtopic/t=157842/postdays=0/postorder=asc/highlight=pacemaker/start=0.html)  If you read through the whole thread, you can see many were already skeptical at the time and the only place the story could be found was on the site linked to by the person posting it.  A little more searching brought this up thread from another site: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?topic=236911.0 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?topic=236911.0) where the person who posted it later basically admits they made it up.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of - couldn't remember if it had been confirmed to be fake or not. Thanks for the links, Breyer600 :)

The thread on the old Arena mentions that the magnets were deemed to be a possible choking hazard - anyone know if that one's legit? It sounds more plausible than the pacemaker thing, anyway.
Title: Re: Possible convention exclusive?
Post by: Breyer600 on July 24, 2017, 03:00:05 PM
That's a far more likely explanation.  From what I can find out, there were several recalls of different types of toys that had magnets around the time that Hasbro stopped using them in ponies plus talk of increasing regulations on them.

If I remember correctly, (also from my toy testing knowledge) it was around that time that general toy cocerns started to surface like the lead paint and such. One thing was accounts of kids swallowing small magnets and them getting stuck together in the intestine making it unable to be removed "naturally" (you guys get it). I don't recall a specific pony moment but i thought it was an overall they stopped doing it as a result of all these new regulations.

Either way, I hope we see a convention exclusive for HASCON.  Since this Pinkie Pie is for Amazon.
