Pony Corral / Re: POTD 1/27/2022 Bubbles
« on: January 27, 2022, 06:57:11 AM »
She's so cute. A bubbles with a missing tail (along with a majesty and lemondrop) somehow made her way into my childhood g3 herd, and I distinctly remember that my sister and I imagined that she was paralyzed, and made a wheelchair for her out of Lego so that she could join in the other ponies adventures.

The bubbles I have in my collector herd now is a different bubbles, but nonetheless I was so happy to find her again ♥️

Theres certain so softs who i think would look absolutely gorgeous as regular ponies, but they dont look as nice as they could because theyre covered in flocking.. and they never got regular releases, so theyre just forever stuck as so soft ponies which is a shame

Actually, there are non flocked versions of the so soft ponies. If I recall correctly, they were only available in Europe, and were known as the movie star ponies, on account of them appearing in the my little pony '85 movie?  :)

Pony Corral / Re: Will anything happen if I don't remove tail rust?
« on: January 15, 2022, 01:13:30 PM »
In terms of cleaning rust, generally it will come out of the tail eventually, you just have to be prepared to soak and scrub. (I use a combination of a hot oxyclean bath and rust remover for scrubbing, and shampoo/conditioner afterwards)

Like tailrustedtealeaf said you *can* put the washer back on if you want to, but I would recommend replacing it with a pair of zip ties.

Whether you DIY it or commission it, good luck restoring your peppermint crunch  :)

Pony Corral / Re: The Weirdest MLP Flaws In Your Collection?
« on: February 04, 2021, 02:30:16 PM »
I have one that's a bit of a mystery. My starshine has an extra long forelock. And by that, I mean that she has extra hairholes, filled and glued with hair (that is the same length as the rest of her hair) , going down her face, almost all the way down to her nose. I can only assume that this was a factory error of some sort, and they just went with it and sold her anyway. I mean, I'd certainly be surprised if it turned out a child was somehow responsible xD

(It's a bit hard to see, but it's my only picture of her and all my ponies are in storage at the moment)

Pony Corral / Re: Ponies & the Autistic Spectrum
« on: October 11, 2020, 10:22:16 AM »
I was diagnosed with technically Asperger's at age 8, but I much prefer the term autistic and refer to myself as autistic, or ASD, or on the spectrum etc etc

I loved my childhood G3 herd dearly, and put a lot of time and energy daily into grooming them, organising them etc both because it was very soothing and because I loved each of them as much as if they were real ponies. Pinkie pie, Sea spray, sparkleworks, wing song, and all the others each had their own personality, lives and stories in this very elaborate world that I created just for me. They gave me an escape from a pretty awful home/school life, and so much happiness.

So naturally, it was absolutely devastating when they were all taken away from me and thrown out shortly after I turned 10, the reasoning being that I was too old for them, and I needed to just get over it. It's been almost 15 years, and I almost can't even look at G3, never mind collect them, because my memories of them are tainted, and even now it makes me so sad.

On the upside, my current G1 collection brings me all that happiness and comfort, without the sadness. I can groom them, restore them, organise them, give them their own personality and noone can take them away from me now, or say I'm too old for them. Who's laughing now, mother?

I couldn't really tell you how and why MLP became one of my special interests in the first place. I suppose part of it is that it was a pretty natural offshoot of my childhood/teenage love of horse riding? (yes, I was derided as a weird horse girl in secondary school just because I used to horse ride) and of course for the reasons I listed above, but it's hard to put my finger on exactly what makes ponies so special to me. But you know, it doesn't really matter why to me, they just are and they make me so happy!  ^.^

If basic fun does release flutter ponies, I'd certainly be interested to see if and how they make their wings less fragile!

Boysenberry pie. It's weird, my fave gal Merriweather is purple and yellow too, but it just...works for her! Not for boysenberry pie. I don't like her name, either.
Most to least favourite:
1.) Blueberry Baskets
2.) Cherry treats
3.) Strawberry Surprise
4.) Cranberry muffins
5.) Raspberry jam
6.) Boysenberry pie

Pony Corral / Re: Least fave sunshine pony?

I feel bad for joining in on the dunking on Shoreline but she's just...a no from me. Poor girl, it's not her fault.

Seaflower and mainsail are the best. Seaflower is the prettiest, and I'm very fond of mainsail, because
1.) She's the only sunshine pony I have, and

2.) She was my first major restoration project. Poor little pony was black with dirt, sporting a severe, extremely frizzy mohawk and was so warped her face was caved in and she couldn't stand up. I fixed all that, and she's much prettier and happier for it. I wish I could show you before and after pictures, but I forgot to take a before picture  >_<

Pony Corral / Re: So soft or Deflocked?
« on: June 15, 2020, 09:30:33 AM »
I'm not a big fan of flocking, it looks and feels weird, and it doesn't age well. However, the deflocking process is SUCH a pain, I don't do it unless absolutely necessary. I have a deflocked magic star and Truly, and they both look much better for it, but it wasn't a easy task. I have a surprise who's flocking isn't perfect, but it is in really good condition, so I've left it. Short answer is, depends on the state of the flocking!

Pony Corral / Re: G1 Collectors who collect non-nostalgically?
« on: June 09, 2020, 02:28:43 AM »
I grew up with G3, and I remember how distraught I was when I turned 10 and I was deemed "too old" for ponies, so they were all thrown out against my wishes. Fast forward 12 years, and I stumbled across a small bag of G1 ponies at my work. You see, there was a bubbles, majesty, and lemon drop mixed into my childhood collection, so I recognised these ponies for what they were. They were so dirty and looked so sad, so I took them home, cleaned them up, and they turned out so beautifully, I realized that I wanted to keep doing it. Two years later, and I have a beloved G1 collection much larger than my childhood G3, and I don't plan on becoming "too old" for collecting them anytime soon. I've thought about going into collecting G3 occasionally, but sadly, looking at them reminds me of unpleasant memories, as much as I love them. G1 brings me that happiness without the sadness.

So I guess the short answer is, my love for G1 is motivated mostly by love for them, partly by spite. Jokes on you, mum and ex-stepdad, ya jerks.
