G2 Playsets
« on: March 11, 2023, 02:14:09 PM »
Is it just me or did anyone else also found that G2 playsets at times were very random, even a tad out of place for the overall brand?

My guess is that, once it became a Europe only brand they resorted to simply selecting from white label toys offered by Chinese companies. I came across a Royal Castle once at a store that is the equivalent of the USA's dollar store, definitely identical to G2's, but it was yellow and blue and had less sculpted details. Made me think that was the base for the G2 castle.

And that mansion has to be totally random dollhouse, right?

I'm curious to see pics of identical but non G2 MLP sets, if anyone has them!

I definately remember reading that the g2 castle was originally made for a different toyline but later it was modified and turned into a pony castle... but I can't seem to find what the original castle was for sadly.

That makes so much sense for the castle as the ponies barely fit into it !

I've been googling trying to find which toyline the castle was made for first It must have been another toyline from Hasbro or Kenner. Since I believe G2 MLP was a collab between Hasbro and Kenner, right?

Yes, I vaguely remember someone pointing out that G2 MLP toys were intended to be a different pony toyline by Kenner, and when Hasbro took over they changed it to MLP? I wonder where people get these gems of information from!

Only one I know beside those two is the Garden Playcase, which is a rework of the LPS Zoo set :)

Not sure who had the pictures of the G2 castle alternates, but it was used for a dragon playset I believe? I'll have to see if I have those pics somewhere

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing, I had never seen that. Definitely not the one I saw; it had the added towers like the G2 version.

Those dragons are cute! And I wish they had included the wishing well in the castle playset.

Oh wow, I knew about the garden being a recycled LPS set but I had no idea they'd recycled other playsets! Wild! :O

Oooh thank you so much for this!! It was driving me crazy not being able to find it! I love that they added the stairs on the pony version of the castle!

Are you thinking of the fakie version maybe? It has more purple elements in it.

No, still not the one. It didn't have a rainbow between the towers.
That bedroom playset is very cute though!
