I’ve noticed across the board they’re way overpriced, which does make it seem like the only affordable options right now are in poorer condition (granted I’m only casually looking here and there). If something looks even half decent it seems like a lot of sellers almost triple the price and I’m not sure exactly why. I can always tell when a seller is actually in the community because their prices reflect that. Might be a little higher for quality but it’s still reasonable.

I think we’re seeing a surge in people attempting to buy and flip toys right now, probably as a money making scheme during the pandemic. I don’t blame anyone for looking to make a profit but it’s getting ridiculous. I’m seeing it with toys that don’t even have a big fanbase. Like, your item just isn’t going to sell. No one is going to pay $60 for something that’s worth 1/3 of that at best.

I’m just going to put the name of the seller so it’s here (Greg winters). I’m keeping the items so I can’t say if the seller would have given me any issues with returns etc. but I want buyers to be informed.

I purchased 6 enchanted kingdom horses for a good price. My issues is just that they clearly look better in the photos and one has two broken legs and is splitting down the factory seam. The description states they are not damaged on the sales page.

I did contact mercari simply to change my rating but it looks like your ratings are final so take your time before giving a good review. That said, it looks like support put in a return for me that I did not ask for so I’ll be sorting that out 🙄

I also use it with eBay. I think the smaller market can sometimes work in your favor because sellers aren’t seeing extreme prices in the searches when they try to price their own items, based on the market. I’ve found some good deals, but I would say it’s maybe more of an honor system than eBay so there’s some luck to it.
As a seller I can’t say how well it works but I think more and more people are getting wise to it so it wouldn’t be bad to have a presence there.

Trader & Shipping Support / Should we include mercari sellers anywhere?

Just got a package from a seller on that site that did not match the description or photos (looking now they strategically hid some breaks). I’m keeping it because I still think I can use them but I’d like to be able to warn any buyers to ask for current photos or ask questions.

Special shout out to sellers/traders for being so professional. I don’t think I’ve ever had a late shipment or any funny business without legit reason and great communication from the seller.

*flashbacks to the 90s, full of people lying to scam plastic ponies*  I guess we rooted some of the bad ones out early, lol!  Things were pretty crazy before Paypal existed!

I love all the devotion / resources for restoring ponies, so much love and care for our little plastic friends. <3
that’s fair. I know there are some bad eggs and we have a mighty list of them, but I still trust most people on here and I know if I’m having issues I can ask around and get genuine responses.
Plus I really do have better luck in the g1 community than anywhere else. Even if someone isn’t here, if they deal in ponies things tend to go well.
My dive into Breyer offshoots has been less than stellar in some respects.

Sometimes I forget when I’ve been away for a while but this community really is something else. I adore like 99% of the aspects of it, which is quite rare.
Special shout out to sellers/traders for being so professional. I don’t think I’ve ever had a late shipment or any funny business without legit reason and great communication from the seller. That is definitely not the case when I collect in other communities.

Hearts all around.

What is something you love about this community?

Fire Helix does packaging but it doesn't try to imitate Hasbro and it uses his own art. His ponies are insanely popular too.
Damn their work is quite impressive. If I had the extra funds I would try to snap up a few. I love ponies that look like part of the original line (this packaging really gets the g1 vibe too imo).

I’m dying to know where people are coming up with their eye stamps. The look is so crisp.

*furiously taking notes*

I’m glad the water color pencils and pastels came up. I’ve been curious if that could be done with ponies.

Time to brainstorm! Probably something retro futuristic in tone. Or blatantly 2000s. Metallics errwhere.

Thank you for the tips everyone. I finally got her in the mail. Her paint is definitely in bad shape. It's very sticky and smudging in certain areas. I think tlc is in order. I'll try to remember to post updates so everyone can see what I end up doing with her.

I think I’m going to do some note taking for what I might need.

Should the paint be beyond a sealant, is there an airbrush anyone would recommend? I’m committed to keeping the repairs as close to the original design as possible and I suspect to get a good looking silver an airbrush might be necessary. UNLESS…maybe that chrome powder? I wonder if that can be done on a whole pony.

I’ll make a note of that if the only issue is slight stickiness. Just sent her a photo to confirm which pony I have. Exciting!

Edit: of course Etsy goes down mid conversation. Anyway, she’s going to look for a record of the pony when she’s got time. Asking permission to do touch ups if the pony needs it.

Alrighty, I’ve been told to do what I want. So, we shall see what sprucing up this pony needs.

I believe this custom's artist is on Instagram and Facebook under the name DOLLS4EMMA, if you'd like to ask her about it directly.
I knew this was the best place to ask. I wasn’t able to find them but I don’t have either of those social media accounts so that’s probably why. I’ll grab an insta to ask more. Thank you!

Looks like you can contact the artist. She doesn't look familiar to me.

What exactly were you planning on doing? I can see her hair needs help. Is she sticky?

I've altered customs in my collection by cutting their hair or resealing them. I feel like redoing a custom by someone else is kind of weird though. I guess I need more info.
According to the seller she’s gone sticky so that’s got me thinking the paint is degrading.
My thought was to maybe replace the paint and rehair? I want to preserve her as best I can. I feel like you don’t see many custom this old (or at least I don’t).

She's completely new to me so I can't be much help when it comes to history. She's very cute though and I love the theme you've chosen for her.
The  name that pops into my head is Star Prancer or something along those lines.
thankfully I should be able to find out more. I think she’s cute too, but I want to put her in a position to last longer.

Customs / Recycling my post: a good airbrush?

Okay, I wanted to wait until she was mine to ask the community about her. I grabbed this gal off ebay the other day.

I have some info about her from the seller but if anyone recognizes her I'd love to know more. I know she was created by Elizabeth Brookman and is possibly from Canada. She's also about 20 years old.

Girl is in rough shape due to time and I'm sure back then we weren't exactly using the same customizing processes that we are now. Depending on what can be done when I get her I'm considering trying to clean her up or maybe redo her? That's why I'd like to know more about the intent behind her. The seller couldn't find her old tag so theme wise and name wise she's in limbo. The best I can figure is maybe futuristic carousel?

I'd love any input.

So, I’m thinking a good airbrush would help out with repairs. Any suggestions for a good newbie airbrush that won’t break the bank?
