Pony Corral / Re: New Equestria Girls Dolls Pictures
« on: June 15, 2013, 05:46:48 AM »
Of all the things wrong with these dolls, so many people are complaining about Sunset Shimmer looking like she has big eyebrows? They look perfectly natural like that! As much as I don't like the dolls overall, I wish they WERE her eyebrows.

So, some people think the dolls look too shallow for MLP, being overly-skinny with cheap fashion that doesn't match their personalities, while others are complaining they don't conform to their narrow standards of beauty well enough because "Oh no! er eyebrows look a little thicker"? Maybe Hasbro's not actually underestimating the shallowness of its fans by trying to produce something so entirely un-MLP under the same label.

Its not the eyebrows that are the source of the complaints; those are fine. Its the eye makeup that blends into the eyebrow that makes things weird. Eye makeup... I wouldn't call that natural. For me, this eye makeup is an unnecessary feature that distracts and detracts from the overall appearance. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions though :)

Speaking as a woman with giant thick eyebrows myself, I have no problem with natural-looking eyebrows. I just think that the eye makeup looks bad.

I thought the whole point of these was to look cute/pretty/appealing to the majority so that people would buy them. Of course people are going to judge them based on appearance. What else is there with these?

Oo I like to see new things!

I can honestly say I like AJ a lot. I also really like most of Sunset Shimmer.

I think the others' hair and outfits are cute.

I do wish they would have made cuter/prettier faces for the dolls though. The current faces take a while to get acclimatized to.

There are 2 things that really bug me about them though. 1) is Sunset Shimmer's big caterpillar-y looking eyebrows. Seriously, adding eyeshadow is fine, but adding eyeshadow that looks like giant eyebrows is not cool. It is one of those things I cannot unsee. 2) is Twi's lack of a neck. This just looks bizarre.

Pony Corral / Re: Question about Taoboa ponies
« on: June 11, 2013, 10:56:15 PM »
I think the lag between a prototype/intial run and a mass production is usually around 3 months, but I have a feeling that can vary.

Here's a few examples:
Prototype Cupcake 03401 Dec 6 2010
Regular Release 10661 March 7 2011
3 months and 1 day

Drama Pony Prototype 13431 Dec 9, 2011
Regular Release 20831 Mar 24, 2012
3 months 15 days

If I had to guess an answer to your question, we probably would see a similar lag in products showing up in packaging. Maybe about 3 months for most of the Taobao ponies? There are a few ponies that don't even show up on Taobao and go straight to release, so it really does vary.

Poor Sweetie Swirl, haha.

Don't worry, you are not the only one that hasn't recognized her before. I seem to remember a lot of "Found a new pony on Taobao" threads that ended up being Sweetie Swirl or Starbeam Twinkle.

So many generic-looking pink unicorns!

Hey, that is a tough choice. Luna is very cute, but I think Nightmare Moon is the cutest.

I like the bold colours on Nightmare Moon, and think she looks the most interesting/flashy/showy between the two.

Good luck with whichever you do choose :) Congrats on getting a commission slot.

Pony Corral / Re: Are bangs on G4s rare or not?
« on: June 11, 2013, 09:10:03 AM »
Bangs ponies are rarer than non-banged ponies simply for the fact that they were only around for about 2 waves. As soon as the wave with Blossomforth, Lulu Luck, etc came out, Hasbro no longer produced ponies with bangs (except for that Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash).

Most are fairly easy enough to find at the moment, second-hand, I would assume. I haven't seen them in stores for a while now. The only hard ones to find with bangs are Daisy Dreams (because she was exclusive to certain countries) and a few prototype ponies like glittery/translucent Applejack or Sweetie Blue because they were never released.

I don't think they are super-sought after by everyone, but I think there are a lot of people who get excited over them (I know I do, lol).

Pony Corral / Re: so many pinkies, which one will be released?
« on: June 10, 2013, 10:38:46 PM »
I think the small black/white/pink haired and ballooned PP will be realeased and so will the glitter PP and Wysteria. Fashion style, I think it'll be the one with the black, pink and white balloon but different color pinks in the hair and no black.
Having said that SOOO looking forward to my BTPP getting here from Clipper!! :) :)

I am guessing the same things as you  :)

I am so super excited for these glittery ponies, like Pinkie. The glitter itself is not so exciting to me, but her plastic is so pretty and I love how her hair is bright bright pink.

Pony Corral / Re: Well this is... creative?
« on: June 07, 2013, 03:09:15 PM »
It is fun to make crafts, but this one reminds me too much of the contents of my hole punch, when I have to dump out all of the little paper dots in the garbage. I have had too many paper dot spills all over the floor and this brings back messy memories.

Ah well, whatever floats your boat. I do like the colours.

Pony Corral / Re: 3D Printer Bubbles!

She looks pretty cute, but I would be afraid that she would break easily.

The point of 3D printers is to make a quick rough prototype, not usually to mass manufacture.

Pony Corral / Re: Do you like the SDCC???
« on: June 05, 2013, 10:31:04 PM »
I do like her... I think she's pretty neat, but I am not gaga over DJ-Pon3 in the first place.

I do think the box is kind of neat though.

I like her! But I am not collecting non-brushables.  Maybe I want to make an exception for her though.

Spiffy! Thanks for the news.

Pony Corral / Re: One single Taobao thread?
« on: May 30, 2013, 10:02:03 AM »
This is an interesting idea, but I don't think it is necessary. There's what, 4 topics on the front page right now about unreleased ponies? That doesn't seem bad at all. If people don't want to talk very much in each individual thread, they are going to get disappear off the front page as fast as they appeared.

I think the topic would be too slow for a sub forum, too.

Why not have something like the "out now and coming soon thread", where one person in charge of the thread gathers new pictures each time a new taobao pony thread pops up? If the thread was stickied, people could use it for reference.

Pony Corral / Re: Is "Cherry Treats" Originally Tan Or white?
« on: May 29, 2013, 10:54:28 PM »
Yep, I am pretty sure she starts off as a shade of white.

Mine has gotten slightly off colour over the years and is very off-white now. I put Plumsweet beside her for comparison and there is a huge difference.

I had my Cherry Treats stored in a tub for a while with some other things, and she managed to pick up a large dark purple blotch. Somehow, that just faded by itself though, which is nice. I can hardly see it now.

I am pretty sure that Sunset Shimmer description matches a regular sized pony that people posted earlier.

I would love to see a fashion style version of her though.

Pony Corral / Re: Blind bags: does this make anyone else laugh?
« on: May 24, 2013, 09:46:24 AM »
I always make fun of the "She has so many friends!" ones.

I grab the blind bag card and the pony, get a wild insane expression on my face and say "She has SOO MAAANY FRIENDS" and shove the pony and the card in my husband's face. I like to bug him since he helps me open the blind bags.

Having 5 gajillion friends is overrated, lol. What a terrible defining feature.
