Wow those are super! The outlet plug trick is very clever! You might try a translucent acrylic paint that you apply with a brush. I think some companies have ratings for the opacity of their paints, so you could look for one with low opacity. Ah, maybe try Golden brand, I think they have those ratings AND I think they have iridescent paints!
That works We might need different material for the tabs, here in the UK...but I imagine a plastic package of some kind would work. A lot of soup pots (plastic ones) have little tabs on them that might work...
