Kinder Surprise Eggs...now in the US?
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:48:44 PM »
So I was doing a little shopping at our local mall and the candy store had real Kinder eggs!! Not Yowies or any of the off-brand kinder type eggs. These are real Kinder brand! They came at a steep price of $5/egg but I had to get a couple!!

Wonder if this means they're going to be sold here more often? Or perhaps this store is breaking the rules? Lol

I really don't actually care for Kinder chocolate. When I was collecting all the MLP Equestria figures a few months back I always gave the chocolate to my boyfriend lol.
Did the egg have a visible plastic ridge like the new Yowies do? That's how they get around the law, but I've also heard of US stores somehow importing and selling them illegally.
Honestly, I think the toy capsule is the least dangerous part. It's actually designed to be safer to open than old ones (no longer a chocking hazard *rolls eyes* I used to bite them open as a kid and I'm still alive) but the toys inside are still in small pieces that could be choked on instead.

Side note: Modern Yowies are nothing compared to their original design. Being able to put the creature together and have action features was the best part, solid plastic is lame. I'm still so bitter about this lol.

Wow! I've always wanted the neat Kinder Egg toys after I found out about them. I'll have to check the candy store in my mall also.

Nope, just the small yellow capsule inside the chocolate egg. No lip around it like the Yowies have. These are legit Kinder eggs like I remember from when I was young. Not sure if it's legal to sell them, but they were at Fuzziwigs (candy store) in my mall.

At that price they're either still illegal or someone is preying on a law change most of you don't know about. I just checked walmart.ca and I can get a three pack for $3.25 Canadian, which is about $2.40 usd. You're being robbed, I'm afraid. *sigh*

$5?!  Me thinks it was an illegal move on the stores front if its priced that high :(

Lol it could be. This candy store is notoriously overpriced to begin with. They've always got harder to find candies, so I guess that's how they justify it?

Five dollars??! Yikes! That's what I paid for my Kinder christmas chocolate calendar.. The eggs costs about a fifth of that over here and I think that's too expensive.

I was told it's a $3k fine per egg if you get caught crossing the Canadian boarder with them. mind you I used to go to Costco in Canada and pick up multiple cases to share with friends and family in the US. but at 3k each my kinder egg smuggeling  days are done. sad.

I think they're legal. Even at the crazy price. They've been popping up in candy stores and even chain party stores over here, and $5 has been the price at all of them from what I saw. I THINK it was Party City I saw them at, the others were independent stores. So I wouldn't think a chain store would want to be in on the illegal candy business. At least I hope not!

I like Kinder chocolate, but it is REALLY expensive over here. One of the stores was selling Kinder Santa shaped chocolates, but they were even more than the eggs were.

In high school my German teacher used to get them sent in and we could trade our "marks" for them (and other German goodies).  I have a small plastic safe and a sleepwalking bear that I got as toys out of them.  I found some about 10 years ago (I think it may have been that long ago) at a restaurant in Salt Lake City.  I think it was Tony Roma's.  I didn't realize they were supposed to be illegal in the states.

The import candy store in the mall where I work has had them for a while (2+ years anyway) and I always wondered how they got around the law.  They are pretty pricey at like $4 or so an egg but honestly it's worth it to me because I like the surprise.  The store has had them more often and more of them at a time in the past year or so, though.  When I first started working at the mall, the Kinder Eggs would only be there sometimes, and they would sell out FAST, but now there seems to be a pretty steady supply of them, and both the ones in the red and pink wrappers.
