Title: "Must Have" Ponies: Perception vs. Reality...
Post by: ladybastilla on May 04, 2015, 09:39:04 AM
With a few points that were brought up in the "Sought After Ponies that you're Not a Fan Of" thread I think that there is another topic going on that would be very interesting to discuss...

If we're not all scrambling to get Rapunzel (whom many listed as a "sought after" they weren't interested in) who ARE the sought after ponies? How much difference is there between our thoughts and reality within our community? And do our own habits match what we think / believe we think about pony collecting? Let's find out!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
2. Who is your favorite pony?

Notice I've asked these as two separate questions: there's a reason for this. Very often people can confuse the 'worth' of something in status or dollars with its 'worth' as an individual / item that can bring them joy. If the answer is the same, that's totally okay, too! But I want to make sure people don't automatically feel compelled to give what might be perceived as the "right" answer.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Feel free to take a couple guesses. Guess a big pony (expensive / rare) and a regular pony. Why? Because we often overlook the little guys when they're the backbones of our collections and could possibly be the ponies more of us are actually looking for.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Now we are crossing personal preference with public appearance. When we add another person's potential views to our own, there is a chance for the results to become more murky.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Feel free to pick two: one can be a grail that is long term. One should be a more normal thing that you are looking for in general. My goal with this question is to see whether we find that a lot of us are looking for similar normal ponies. Or perhaps certain odd sets have fans we didn't know about? Or any number of other outcomes. If you've been collecting long enough that you are pretty much in grail only territory, that's okay too and feel free to say so.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that the latter group does not view each pony as an individual. It's just that some people tend to have more of a pull or drive to finish a set once they start it, sometimes even to the point of not starting a set if they don't like one pony in it.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

I -think- this may tie into 'collector age' / 'time spent collecting' but we shall soon see. I'm just curious who goes after big ponies more often vs. who is more interested in pony diversity.

***

My Answers:

1. MIB Glamour Glow Rarity / Glitter Wings Ploomette / TY giant Rarity plush

I figure Glamour Glow holds some value since I haven't opened here. I know glitter wings ploomette is worth a bit even when opened, and while I doubt I'd get retail for my giant Rarity she's one of the larger individual investments I've made.

2. Coco Berry

Many here likely already know that I wanted Coco Berry because of my dog, Coco. I'm a huge fan of "gimmick" ponies--especially when the gimmick works; her colors are lovely; I adore how her symbols are somewhat 3D and her pose is absolutely precious. Plus, she was one of the gifts from my first swap here.

3. Expensive: Night Glider / Regular: TE ponies -- Locket seems to have a lot of fans looking for her.

4. Gusty. She manages to blend a simple, elegant design and beautiful, striking colors together in a way few ponies can. (I find most are one or the other.) I don't have her -now-, but I did a few years ago. I cannot believe I did not keep her! (But I was not collecting then, so, yeah.)

5. Expensive: Crumpet (that'll take a while. She isn't seen often and she's a so soft--one of the few things I can get picky about and don't normally collect.) Regular: Princess Serena (Princess Sparkle is getting impatient waiting for her friends to get here.)

6. I'm usually more of an "individual pony" collector. There are a few sets that I do want to collect, but those tend to be because I like all the ponies in them. If I had more room (and someday I will; I've been promised a pony room when my bf and I get a house but that's a ways down the road) my logic may shift. But for now, controlling the space I have available is priority one.

7. At this stage of collecting, I'm usually more likely to buy a few new ponies. My current goal is to get ponies from as many different sets as I can so I can see how each set differed. There are times--certain milestones or holidays--where I might look at a more expensive single pony, but right now that's not the norm for me.

Thanks very much for your time. I hope I can get some responses to this so we can see if there are any interesting patterns to look at here. Have a great day!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
Probably my Ditzy Doo SDCC. I really want one without a damaged box but I'll take what I can get

2. Who is your favorite pony?
G1: for some reason Gusty
G3:Minty
G4: Twilight Sparkle

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Mimic, I really do want to get her one day, her color combo is so beautiful!

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Tbh I really love all ponies, that'd be a tough one!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Mimic!
Second runner up is Non-Alicorn Fashion Style Twilight Sparkle

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I used to with the G4 but then I thought why buy the same Pinkie Pie or Rarity? I now just go for the background ponies I don't have (ie: Sweetie Drops, Diamond Mint)

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
I'm definitely the "few new less expensive ones" right now

1. My most valuable pony is Nightglider/the pony that was my proudest moment was the Wig Wam I found at a thrift store/my grail pony was Moonstone

2.  My favorite pony is Nightglider, because she is so gorgeous and has my favorite colors and symbol theme.

3.  I think the most sought after pony is Mimic.  That might be my own bias showing, because she is the first pony I knew was rare and I think she is so pretty.

4.  I think everyone should have an g1 Applejack (I need one!).  Because she is a simple but beautiful pony and because she has managed to stick around so long (having been in g1, g3 and now in g4)

5.  Right now my most wanted pony is Salty.  He's not the most expensive, but usually goes for more than I want to pay (I'm cheap LOL).  If we are talking no limits on money then I want the Surprise Twins Pony the most.  I think the gimmick is so funny and the mommy is beautiful and her twins adorable.

6.  I tend to go after individual ponies, but I do have my eye on completing the year two rainbow ponies.

7.  Right now I would rather have more ponies.

1.  My most valuable pony... it's a toss up between Greek Moonstone and my Brillitos Flutterbye (which I'm in the process of trading off)
2.  Fave pony... Moonstone, hands down.
3.  The most sought after pony...  If you mean from my collection it could be my Argie Flutterbye, Greek Moonstone and my mountain boys.  Unless you're asking which pony I believe is most sought after, then it's any reasonably priced nirvana.
4.  Which pony would I suggest to be added to a collection...   Either Lemon Drop or Moonstone, why?  Because Lemon Drop is so plentiful, and Moonstone is just gorgeous!
5.  My most wanted pony(s)...  Nightlight, and the two Mountain Boys I'm missing.
6.  Do I collect individuals or by set...  I want to finish the mountain boys, so I guess by set.
7.  Would I rather have one rare pony or more less rare...  I'd rather have the ones I want (does this make sense?)  It depends on the pony really.

Great idea!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I think my Dutch baby was my proudest moment, I took lots of photos and my brag got stickied! That was great.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Glory with glitter symbols from USA

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Might be German Nightlight but I think unicorns in the Glory or Gusty poses are ponies that everyone wants

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I love Dancing Butterflies, she's just really spectacular.  I love her oriental colours and style.

Now we are crossing personal preference with public appearance. When we add another person's potential views to our own, there is a chance for the results to become more murky.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

In my sig! Moonjumper is the last winger I'd like to get. I'm also after UK Sweet Clover to complete my UK wish list.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Individuals

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

I'd rather have a few less expensive ones.  I only once and quite recently spent over my usual £40 limit on a single pony.

I -think- this may tie into 'collector age' / 'time spent collecting' but we shall soon see. I'm just curious who goes after big ponies more often vs. who is more interested in pony diversity.

I'm 36 and have no ponies left from childhood.  I started collecting two years ago and have nearly completed my wish list.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony? Prototype g4 Minty

2. Who is your favorite pony? I love all my ponies and have several favs. I change my mind who is my fav all the time so I couldn't really say.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? That's really hard to answer for mlp collectors as a whole. There are probably several that fall in a "sought after" category but probably not one that is universally "most wanted". As far as g4, which is all I collect, it seems to be just whoever is new.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique? Any g4 brushable. Keep the brand and particularly brushables alive! Let Hasbro know we still want them!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now? Sweetie Drops, because she's been out a little while now but I haven't been able to find her in store yet.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set? I collect 1 version of every g4 pony character. I'm not sure how that'd be categorized.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? I'd rather have one pony I really love than several I just like.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I'd say when I got Mimic. I shed tears over her <3 My most valuable pony is mexican rainbow haired Firefly

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Firefly <3

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?

It's a toss up. For competitionists some ponies are hard to get because of their few numbers. Like Greek Lady Bird. But most Popularly sought after pony is not the same as rarity. I'd say Mimic is the most widely sought after that I know. There's others I think make the list but those are the two I think apply best.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Collecting is so subjective. What I think is a collection staple isn't for others. If I were to advise a pony to someone it'd always be Firefly because she was my childhood favorite and a bit of a mascot for the mlp franchise. A second would be Sundance.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

I think Movie Firefly or a Firefly moc. I have others I really want like SWeettooth, Nightglider, baby blossom, and others but I think the Firefly obsessor in me wants those two items most.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I'm a bit of a G1 completionist. I would like, eventually, the entire line of US released ponies.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth) Right now? Rare ones. I have a large collection and it's coming down to widdling out more sought after/hard to fine/ and rare ponies. Most commons have passed through my hands.

SO imho it doesn't come down to collecting the big names or diversity, but rather time and opportunity alone. You can find a great deal on a pony but it doesn't matter if you don't have the cash atm. Sometimes I can shell out money for a big lot of ponies, other times, I can't even afford a common Peachy. It's basically what is available for what price when I'm looking to buy.

My answers are going to be G1-centric, just so you know!  ;)

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
My most expensive ponies are my Indian Minty and Snuzzle.

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Baby Noddins is my fave (and I know the peek-a-boos aren't very popular for some reason) and I have a soft-spot for Snuzzle and Parasol.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Hhm... it's hard to choose one who I think is more popular. Ponies like Nightlight, Ice Crystal, blue hearts Dazzleglow all seem to get snapped up quickly when they come up for sale. The TAF babies always seem very popular too.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique
I think it would be Snuzzle or Parasol...they are just quintessentially MLP to me.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Right now I really want Baby Lucky Leaf and Flat foot Minty. Long term grail is Greek Sunbeam (dream on).

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Well, I collect unicorns mostly but I also like CP ponies and boys. Though I do buy the occasional pony who doesn't fit into those groups because they just appeal to me (like Parasol).

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Well, I feel I can justify spending £100 on several ponies much more than a single pony. Once I have gotten all the cheaper items on my want list then I guess I'll have to start buyer fewer, but pricier ponies!

Spoiler
1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony? MIB G4 Diamond Rose - I found her in a store for £5, a good two years after they were initially released. She's one of my favourite G4s, and one I had given up hope on owning because of her rarity, so to find her in the wild like that was amazing.

2. Who is your favourite pony?

I have a lot of favourites  G4: Diamond Rose, G1: Masquerade

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?

Probably Mimic or G4 Star Swirl.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Lyra Heartstrings, because her colours are gorgeous <3

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Hmm, prolly...Gusty, Blossomforth, and Plumsweet.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Individual. I don't have the money or space for "collections" containing ponies I don't care for.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Eh, depends. There are certain amounts I'm not willing to pay for a plastic horse under any circumstance so prolly go with the less expensive ones unless I got the super-awesome-rare-chocolate-fudge-coated one for a great deal.

Ok, this sounds fun.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
Definitely my MOC MLPTales Melody, I still cant believe she is part of my meager collection

2. Who is your favorite pony?
What? You want me to choose?? Applejack was one of the first ponies I considered to be my favorite. But I also really like Melody and Mochanut.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Definitely Mimic, even when I first started collecting I knew she was valuable. Other than that, Firefly maybe? I'm sure she is common but at the same time I'd bet everyone wants her for their collections.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Everyone should have a Year of the Horse Pinkie Pie. She is just so unique, not only as a g4 release but in general as well.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Patch, Clover, and Bon Bon definitely. But more realistically I've been trying to add any Glow n Show ponies to my collection, which arent impossible to find, its just hard to find one in my price range.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
If I'm at a flea market or toy store I'll buy whatever I dont already have. Shopping online I will search for individual ponies.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Definitely would rather have more ponies than rarer ones.

Those are some interesting questions!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
For me my most "proud moment" pony was Majesty; she was one of my childhood ponies who went AWOL and I had a lot of trouble replacing her. Whenever I found her, she always seemed to be in really bad shape, but in the end I managed to find one who's really nice so the patience and perserverance definitely paid off. :)

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Posey, Windy and Majesty were my childhood favourites, and I love my new ones just the same.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
I'm not really knowledgeable enough to make an informed guess on that matter. :P

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
I would recommend Windy. Her colour scheme works really well and she's in a very endearing pose.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
I really want NSS Heart Throb, she's been evading me for ages. I'm hoping to have found one by the end of the year, though.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Individual ponies suit me right down to the ground because it takes less energy to find them and less space on my shelves. Also I wouldn't like to feel obliged to get a pony I don't like just to finish a set.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
I'd rather get a pony that I love rather than a bunch that just look nice but don't have any personal wow factor. Price-wise I have a limit of £15, anything above that I have a hard time justifying, even if I've saved up specifically for something.

OOoh, this looks fun to do!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Probably my nirvanas(Peru pegasus Blossom/white Italy Tootsie), Melody, and Night Glider.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Ffffff I have too many but. I'm really found of any of my childhood ponies, Melody + friends, Night Glider, Galaxy,
Sugar Apple, Sweet Tooth....ok I have to many lol.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

I always thought it was Mimic actually. But I can attest to piggy ponies as well.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think they are special / beautiful / unique?

I dunno if I would want to do this. Everybody's taste is different so I would help everyone to get their most wanted pony!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

I have LOTS of these. Really.
Just look at how many TAF ponies there are. (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Category:Twice_As_Fancy_Ponies)

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Individuals, but I often find myself wanting every individual in a set...

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

The second option.

Ah, awesome you did this :D

My answers apply only to G1, because although I pick up the odd G4 as a souvenir, I only collect G1.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

This is a really hard question, actually. I have a lot of ponies which are "graily" and, honestly, the one which would probably be THE most graily and which I would be most proud of obtaining I still haven't, because I probably never will (Brazilian Paradise, because I have a deep sentimental childhood connection to Paradise thanks to writing lots of stories involving her, and we had no So Softs growing up). So if I had her, it would be her, but since I don't, and realistically never will, I'll go back to my own collection...

Maybe Glory and Moondancer, finding them here, in the UK, at a UK car boot sale, where they should not have been. They were ponies I longed for for all my childhood and that day I saw them there I was just blown away. They are "common" ponies to people in the US, but I never take them for granted.

Also my alternate Baby Susie, because she's a one and only. And, not for the kudos. I am proud of her because a: I found her through hard work and diligence of going through ebay lots looking for something special and that I could afford on my teenage income and b: because she's still mysterious, and I love hunting for the answers to puzzles. She is kinda special for those reasons - though I do like that right now she's OOAK.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

I don't have one favourite pony. Taffeta is one of them for obvious reasons (that happened after I chose her for my namesake, though, I never even saw her before then. I remember asking my trade partner for her "because I decided that's going to be my online name" in 1998. Teenage logic is awesome.
I am also very attached to the ones mentioned above, and Magic Star, Cherries Jubilee, Princess Pearl - also ponies I wrote about and who I loved reading about in the comic. Shady as well. Gypsy. I have a lot of favourites, and all of them for sentimental reasons. And from the other US ponies - Mimic :D

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

The most sought after pony is the one that was the least sought after in the years MLP was out, because of supply and demand. I don't think it's Mimic and Rapunzel, nor do I think it's a Nirvana pony. It is hard to pinpoint one, though, because IMO the most sought after pony depends on where you live. For me as a kid, it was Medley and Glory. For someone in the US, that's probably a nonsense, but I couldn't get them so I wanted them and that made them important to me. I imagine US collectors look at European ponies in a similar way. So it depends on where you live for me. I don't think there is one pony overall.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Taffeta! :D I also love Mimic but she gets a lot of attention already. Princess Pearl is another one as well. She's a stunning pony, especially with her dragon. But my reasons for liking ponies are usually silly, sentimental and connected to something in my childhood or trading past. So the reasons would probably not make sense to anyone else.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

I have 2. As mentioned above, Brazilian Paradise, and also Baby Sugarcake. Both long term grails for me for different reasons. Cannot afford either, so I'm in it for the long haul xD. One day I will get them! *shakes fist* If we're talking MIP, though, I have a whole slew of them from my childhood to tick off.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I think I've completed all the mainstream sets, unless Baby Sugarcake counts as mainstream - but I collected as I found them. Car boot logic is you take the pony that's there. I generally traded in the same way. I love all G1 ponies (although not so keen on the Sundae Best, they stink), so I collected them all and still do.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

What is the pony's proper worth, though? That in itself needs defining IMO. Monetary? Sentimental? Popularity? Rarity is another thing that needs defining. It is also influenced by location. Someone in Athens may find it easier to find Greek ponies than someone in Connecticut, for example. For me it depends on the pony. I dislike the idea of spending $500 on one pony. I could never sanction that. I could buy a bunch of nice MIP ponies for that amount, or a bunch of nice loose ones, but not one single pony. If I was really rich, though, or even not saving for a PhD or working a part time job, I would probably look at that differently, though. I am by no means judging anyone else. I just am reacting to my income and acting accordingly. Right now, because I don't lack many common ponies except for issue variations in some, I would not be looking at them. But I somehow think I would find it more fun to buy a lot of 40 ponies for £100 than one pony, even if I had 39 of those ponies. Because trading is fun, too, and that's the biggest part of pony collecting I miss. Not being able to trade so much any more.

In terms of my collection, I am a completionist. I am not fussed about most Nirvana, but in terms of mainstream, I want to fill all the gaps. So all. But most of mine were acquired through carboot sales or trading, so I guess I never really thought of them in terms of $$$ so much as in terms of equal trade.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
I think my most valuable "pony" is Oakly and I just kept her (I always thought she was a girl) from my childhood collection.

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Glory, she was my first.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
After reading this thread, I guess I'd go with Mimic. I certainly feel like I read more about her than Rapunzel. She is more unique looking than Rapunzel and she is a pony those who don't venture into the rare air of nirvanas know about. As for a regular sought after pony... I'll go with Locket since apparently almost everyone in the girly swap had her on their wish list.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
I don't think there is any one pony every collector would be delighted to have but I'm going to go with snowglobe Celestia because I call her "the pinnacle of all human endeavor." She's a winged unicorn princess with rainbow hair, a crown and rainbow sparkles floating inside her. My inner seven year old is simply thrilled.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Baby Princess Sparkle as my grail and Baby Starbow as my "normal"

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Individual

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
One rare pony because I'm running out of space.  :P

This is a great topic with many great questions!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I'm afraid I don't have any expensive/rare ponies in my collection yet, but if we're speaking about sentimental worth, my NSS Shady is the best thing in my entire toy collection. She's just so special. I could get every nirvana in the world, but she'd probably still be my favorite.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

That would be the same as question 1. (If we're talking about my personal collection. There are loads out there which I'd consider "favorites" even though I don't own them yet.)

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Honestly I have no idea. I haven't been a collector long enough I guess :D

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I don't have an answer to this one. There are just too many :)

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Any So Soft ponies (with decent flocking). As of right now, I really don't want anything pony-related more than so-softs.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Mostly individual, but there are sets that I wish to complete in the future, like Rainbow Curl, Rainbow ponies, Rockin' Beats ponies, etc.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Since the only "rare" pony I'd be actively looking for in the distant future is Mimic, I'd rather have lots of common nice condition ponies.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
I would say my MOC baby surprise. the reason I choose her well to me she is the one I played with alot as a child. I was very happy to finally have her mint on card because of that reason.

2. Who is your favorite pony?
So soft surprise. I dont have her on card but I don’t mind. Her and her baby were the most played ponies of the sets that I had.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
I would think Mimic. I feel everyone would want her because of the TV series and I loved the Golden Horseshoes
when I acutally got to see it. I think her colors are awesome. Her pose is great. She reminds me of an "Oscar pony."
4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
I think everybody probably has different tastes as to why they like any pony. For me its the Merry go round ponies or the alternate birthflower ponies. They are just very unique.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
That changes daily. I would pick G1 Starswirl because is purple and blue and she has a cute heart symbol. I really love her colors purple is one of my favorites.
I also probably would one day say Baby sapphire. I like that she is my birthstone. I think shes very cute and I love her pose and colors.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I collect by set and I feel like I accomplish something when I do that and it seems to be alot of fun for me.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
I think at period of collecting I am at selective few. I don’t have many to go after as I used to. I have plenty of others on my want list that are mail order us or the uk ponies.Though it feels very odd to be at the very last few ponies I need from the original us collection. I know its not “complete” without the sea-ponies but I collect what I like and I dont mind that. :)

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I recently aquired my first MOC, Baby Mischief. And she's on a Dutch card too! So I think I'd pick her, because nothing sparks the feeling of nostalgia more than a pony in the original package, exactly like you used to see them in your own toystore. :D

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Way too many.  :P My favourites include Baby Sugarberry, Baby Sunribbon, Baby Explorer, Baby Mischief, Dibbles, Tickle, Flutterbye, Ringlet, Swirly Whirly, all the Wingers, Mainsail, Sugar Apple, Napper, Star Hopper, Yo-Yo... Want me to go on? XD

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Mimic I think. But also the old favourites, like Bubbles, Firefly and Moondancer.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Get 'em all!  :pillow:

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Probably Mainsail or Star Hopper, and some Wingers.  And Dutch Baby Cat!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Individual. I don't care too much about completing sets, but I do enjoy it when it happens!

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

More inexpensive ones!  :newpony:

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
My most valuable pony is probably my piggy Blossom. Though my pride and joy of my collection is my recently completed Mountain boy set <3
I also snagged a Mimic for $20 on ebay (even though it cost me $30 to get her to the UK :P )

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Gypsy. No question

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
I'd say Mimic. She seems pretty unoffensive (nice colour scheme, not gimicky, etc). Though something like Rapunzle or Sweet Scoops would be up there value wise.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Gypsy, but I am really biased. Orange isn't even my favourite colour - it's green. Gypsy because she is such a interesting pony and is bright, colourful and doesn't have any gimmicks. She is a nice, simple pony

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Erghh... umm... *thinks* Bright Eyes (TE) has been catching my eye recently. And I've always had a soft spot for SS Angel

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I don't collect by set per say but if I only have one or two ponies left to get in a set I will usually go out of my way to complete it.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
I'd take a few less expensive ones :P

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony? Ummm, from G1, I own the Bright Eyes I had as a kid and from G4 I recently got a Diamond Rose for $2, so that was exciting.

2. Who is your favorite pony? This is a really hard question! Of G1, I really like Flower Bouquet, Rosedust, Sugarberry, Nice N' Spicy, and Dancing Butterflies. Oh, and baby TAFs (one day I will afford one of you!). Of G3, I like Butter Pop (I like popcorn a lot) and Winter Minty from 08. G4 I really like Honeybuzz and regular Sunset Shimmer.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? Mimic? I'm really not sure. Definitely not Rapunzel according to the other thread, hahaha! I would also say that Nightglider comes up a lot, just from reading what people are looking for on the forum.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique? Oh man, this is a hard one too. Everyone likes different stuff so it is hard to choose a generic one. I guess I would say any of the winged ponies - they are just so pretty!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now? Hrmmmm. I'm fickle, so it is always changing. Right now, probably Baby Dancing Butterflies and/or Baby Sweet Tooth (she's sooooo cute) in the long term. Short term probably Baby Rainribbon and Baby Sunribbon.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set? Individuals. I tend to like only certain ponies out of each set.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth) A few less expensive ones :D

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Monetarily, TAF Nightglider is probably the most expensive and (from what I can tell) sought after pony I own.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

While I have been very selective on the ones I own (all favorites or childhood ponies) I think Summer Wing Cool Breeze is my top favorite.  She was my favorite as a child (Green!) and I still have a soft spot for her.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

From what I've seen, while not the highest in price, I think Mimic seems to have the highest clout as a desirable pony.  While not as rare, her demand seems higher than other very rare ponies.  I think it does make some sense even if she's not on my want list, she is a harmonious combination of colors, pose, type, and symbol.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I truly think that every collector should focus themselves on what makes them happy.  Whether it's that one special grail laden with memory, or just some theme that delights.  There's no formula, just a matter of enjoying the thing.  I couldn't possibly tell someone else what to like, as what's important is purely what matters to you as a collector and a person.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

At the moment I'm after two collector G3s, the Egyptian Pony and the Orange Pop Art Pony.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Just whichever individual ones strike my fancy.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

I'm happiest with those that just... catch my eye and the ponies from my childhood herd.  Just... whatever they are makes me happy, they're what I have and what I like.  I'm not even conditionally particular.  So... one rare pony I think, is what I mean.  Fewer, but more important.

Very interesting thread!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
Mimic

2. Who is your favorite
Starshine

Not really sure, maybe Mimic for rarer. For the more common ponies, I would guess that most collectors have or want Glory and Firefly. To me they are like the embodiment of G1 :)

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Wow, this is a tough one. I do really like Starshine- I think because of her rainbow hair and she is just classic and beautiful.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Gingerbread- I have been trying to get a good condition one for years. Argh!

Night Light- I hope to get her someday...

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I collect individual ponies. If I have a set mostly complete, but there is a pony in it that I don't really care for I won't buy it just to complete the set. I do have some complete sets, but only because I like all the ponies that are in those sets.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
I would rather have more ponies that are in good condition than just one rare pony- that being if I had to start my collection all over- I would want more than just one expensive pony if that makes sense.

Ooh, great thread

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Probably Gametime, right at the moment.  I do have some Alternate Birthflowers though which are pretty awesome!

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Probably Patch from the 7 characters.  A childhood favourite.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

I'd say Mimic.  The price just keeps going up!  Fortunately for my wallet I'm not in a hurry to get her.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

That's a really hard one...  I'd probably have to go with one from the 2nd TAF set like Nightglider.  I just adore them.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Right at the moment it's Diamond Dreams.  I let one go in an auction recently and I'm kicking myself for it.  She was beautiful.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Well i nearly always buy individually.  For me, every pony is an individual-- and every double of every pony is an individual!  One of the hardest things about collecting is choosing which doubles to keep or sell.  I'm selling some newborns at the moment, and even though one has a bit of tail rust, she just seems to have so much personality compared to the minty ones.  I make a decision, do photos, then look at the photos and agonise over my decision.  It seriously drives me crazy.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

In the past, definitely more common ponies;  but as I have a bigger collection now, I'm leaning towards the rarer ones.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

NBBE Baby Lofty, from Brazil. Lofty was one of my favorite ponies growing up, so she is super special to me. She's the only Nirvana I currently own, although I do have a few others on my want list. :)

2. Who is your favorite pony?

G1: Starry Wings
G2: Can I do a pair? Polka and Dot, the little ladybug twins <3
G3: Sea Spray
(I don't collect G3.5 or G4)

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

For expensive ponies I would say probably Mimic as well. She is definitely one of the most talked about ponies, at any rate. For regular ponies, hmm... probably one of the more popular ponies from the early G1 years like Applejack, Firefly, Glory, Gusty, Fizzy, etc. Also, G3 Minty seems to be fairly sought after.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

For G1, Flowerburst. She never seems to get any love and I don't know why! That light blue body and dark blue hair, with the pink and green accents. I know Sweetheart Sisters aren't everyone's cup of tea but I think she's beautiful.
For G2, Hip Holly, because she's just so bright and bizarre that you can't help but love her. Plus, she is the only pony who has a beeper and a cell phone.
For G3, Alphabittle. Her colors are gorgeous and she has an amazing overall design. And I love that her hair is very much like the G1 Rainbow Ponies.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

My most wanted pony is Daddy Sunbright, and my absolute grail is the Australian February Birthflower. It will take me a while to get either one of them I'm sure, but I can be patient. *sits on hands*

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I collect invidually, and I only buy ponies I like. With G1 I've never felt the need to buy everything in a set just for the sake of having it complete. I probably have about 100 or so of my favorite G1's (plus maybe another 50 or so mixed G2's/G3's), and I don't line them up by set like a lot of people do. I just mix them all together in whatever way I think looks good, with all of their accessories 'cause I love the accessories almost as much if not more than the ponies. Like, my Sea Breeze is next to Tuneful because I think they look cute together with their bright colors, and in my mind they must be friends. :) That's one thing I like about the G3's-- they don't really have sets for the most part, so you can just get what you like without feeling like you have to have them all-- or maybe that's just me, I don't know. ;)

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

It would probably depend on the ponies in question. Like I said, I have a pretty small collection, so I'm kind of picky about what I keep. There are a lot of rare ponies I'm not interested in, but there are also a lot of common ponies that I'm not after either. So if it was a choice between, say, a Piggy Pony and common classic ponies like Applejack, Gusty, Medley, Dancing Butterflies, and Snuzzle, I'd go for the commons. But if we're talking about Nightlight vs. a bunch of Happy Tails, Brush N Grows, and Magic Message Ponies, I'd definitely stick with Nightlight.

I think I have a nice mix of commons and rares in my collection. I was actually thinking today that even if I woke up tomorrow and ponies were worthless I'd still love my collection, and I wouldn't see it as a waste of money. I don't keep any ponies that I'm "meh" about. Everything in my collection I absolutely love.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y
My G4 yellow filly proto.  :)
2. Who is your favorite pony?
Minty.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

I don't think there is one particular pony that is universally sought after, but maybe the takaras?

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I really like Nightglider. Her pose, symbol and colors are all lovely and most collectors seem to like her, so I'd go with her.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

I'd love to own a takara one day, but it will be a very long while before that happens.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Individuals, mostly.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Probably one rare one, for space's sake.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

My SDCC black funko vinyl scratch mib.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

G1: NightGlider
G2: Princess Silver Swirl
G3: Starcatcher II
G4: Vinyl Scratch

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?

NightGlider or Mimic for rare and then Fizzy as a regular pony.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I think Scribbles (hard not to say NightGlider though!). She's so unique with her gradient hair and being in a flutterless flutterpony pose. Plus she's a mail order and hard to come by. I just prefer her to dabble.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

NightGlider is my most wanted pony, even over Scribbles (mainly because I'm less likely to get Scribbles). As for regular ponies I realllyyyy need to get Bowtie!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I'm an individual person but knowing a set is completed is really awesome.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

This is really hard to decide and very dependent on the rare pony. I think I could be happy with either choice.

This looks like fun!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
For me, there's a lot of them - bargains like Baby Buttons, Baby Sugarberry, Munchy and Nightglider, surprises like Italy Minty and the absolutely mint Hopping Pocket I've received in lots, etc. I've got so many really great ponies just by winging it, and blindly buying lots!

2. Who is your favorite pony?
That is a really hard question! I don't actually think I have a favourite right now - Most of my pony finds are really great experiences, and they all make me pretty happy!

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
For me, one pony I've never had trouble finding a home for is Nightglider. I've been lucky enough to have 3 go through my hands, and she's one pony that people positively throw money at - I've never had anyone say that Nightglider is overpriced.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Honestly, I don't think there's just one pony. Even if something doesn't appeal to you, I say, get one from each set, and hold them in your hands before making a decision! I didn't like BBE's until I got one, and the same with G4's! Now there are still some I don't collect, but I made that choice with them in my hands and I don't have any regrets!
If I absolutely had to pick a must-have, I'd probably say Parasol. She's pink, she's sparkly, and she's colourful - everything MLP is about!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Another really hard one! I never narrow it down to just one, or I end up overpaying - I buy where the bargains are! Right now my two most wanted at the forefront of my mind are TAF Buttons, as she's the last from her set, and NSS Buttons, because I have SS Buttons and I want the one with stars to match her baby!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
While I do love the feeling of a complete set (to the point where I actually write complete over the set on my printed checklist), I collect individual ponies, because for me, finding an elusive pony for a bargain is more thrilling and makes me feel more accomplished than just buying the next one off the list.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Neither! As I've said, I'm a bargain hunter, and I love cleaning, etc... and while sometimes I'll buy a big ticket pony as a reward or for a special occasion, I mostly buy lots and bargains to clean up, but if I had to choose, it would probably be the latter.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I don't have her yet, so in the future this answer may change, but my biggest grail is German Nightlight. Almost every other pony in the world pales in comparison to her beauty *w* and I've actually gone off adding anyone else into the herd in anticipation, so hopefully I'll get her soon.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Tex! My very first G1 pony that I ever owned, he's a gorgeous guy and has a lot of special memories attached.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

For the typically "rare" ponies, I'll say Babies Sugarcake and Gametime, especially Sugar. A lot of searching parties and not much finding, from what I've seen posted around. As for more common ponies, I'd say Gusty is one that everyone seems to want in their herd, and also Night Glider is always popular and in high demand (me included in the pool of people who think they're gorgeous and would like to own someday :P ).

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I'd recommend a Pony Friend  I'd say they're one of my top favourite kinds of ponies. I think all twelve of them are gorgeous. I also find it really fascinating how G1 is reflected in them - even though they are not ponies themselves, they are in the same "art style" as it were, and are unmistakably My Little Pony, even when actually a My Little Panda or Kangaroo. I think they're a really cool example of how you can break out of the mold and try something different whilst still staying true to the roots, and loving the Friends actually helped me on the road to appreciating a lot of the more "different" kinds of ponies out there, including G3.5s and BBEs and such.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Niiight Liiiiight :dribble:

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I have my own categorising system and tend to collect individual ponies as they fall into line with who's already in my herd. I go by relationships, and usually buy a new member on the basis that they will become part of a family or partnership or friendship. Sometimes I collect by set when I want to pair up "friends" from the same line so that they're not lonely - buying my second TAF pony to keep the first one company, etc.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Hmm, up till recently I would have said quantity. Give me more, more, more! Couldn't get enough of the little hooves. But this year I've really cooled down on the MLP front and couldn't be bothered getting huge numbers of new ponies, even if I had the money for them... Right now I'd say one valuable pony (on the proviso that it's someone I really really want) would make me happier than loads of commons.

1.   Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
I would say my MIB Baby Sugarcake (I love her and don't think I could ever part with her), followed by my MOC Spanish Love Melody

2.   Who is your favorite pony?
Can I cheat and say more than one pony?  I’m in love with Baby Sugarcake and have a fondness for most ponies that are yellow.   I also recently fell in love with Moonstone; the Greek, Brazil, Peru versions are especially gorgeous!

3.   Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Mail Order Category: Baby Sugarcake and the TAF Babies
Non Mail Order Category: Mimic, Nightglider, Munchy
Nirvana: probably South Africans, some of the rarer Greeks
*I would also like to add that, while I think Rapunzel is sort of ugly, I’d totally buy her if she dropped below $300.  I think she has a reputation for being desirable that makes her desirable.  She almost seems like a Kardashian; we hate on her, yet we are fascinated by her, and we keep her in the public eye.

4.    If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
I would suggest owning some version of Applejack (she’s a classic, supper adorable, and often reasonably priced) or Moonstone (she’s pretty and the regular release is reasonably priced).

5.   Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Hmm…...this is a tough question because there are a number of ponies that I want, but none of them have that “OMG, MUST HAVE UBER GRAIL” feeling attached to them that others have had in the past.  At this point, I’d probably say the rest of the TAF Babies set, particularly Baby Sugarberry and Baby Love Melody.  I thought that they would continue to hover in the $50 to $70 range so I wasn’t in any hurry to get them, but their prices have been INSANE on ebay lately.  I hope they come back down in price soon.

6.   Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I’m definitely not a “gotta catch ‘em all” type of collector; I just buy what I like.  Sometimes that means that I end up having a complete set because all the ponies in that set are awesome (think Mountain Boys), but I don’t set out to complete sets unless I genuinely like all of the ponies in the set.

7.   Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
In general, I’d rather have one rare pony than a few less expensive ones.  I’ve always loved the Mail Order ponies, and I (unfortunately for my pocketbook) acquired a taste for Nirvanas about a year or so ago that has become an expensive habit.

This thread has been fascinating to read!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Mine is German Nightlight. She was the most expensive pony and I've ever bought, but also the pony I wanted most for years and years. I don't regret the buy!

2. Who is your favorite pony?

I love all the space-themed ponies, but GnS Starglow is my favorite pony.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?

I would say Mimic. She's expensive but affordable for a sought-after pony. Sure lots of people want ultra rare nirvana ponies, but only a few can afford them and understand all the different variants. Everyone knows who Mimic is. There was a church formed in her honor! ;)

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

I would say Firefly. She is just iconic.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

The last winger I need is Moon Jumper (I've been super picky about finding a perfect one) and Color Swirl Lovebeam!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I focus on individual ponies first, but if there's a set I love or a set with one or two ponies missing until it's complete, then I'll complete it.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Definitely a few common ponies. I have very few "rare" ponies in my 400+ collection. I'm not really about having to have that ultra rare wanted pony because it's ultra rare and wanted. For me, looks+personality > rarity and popularity.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Most Valuable?  Sweet Scoop's necklace.  Not a pony, but for what it is, pretty expensive :)  Pony wise, Rapunzel.

Proudest moment?  Finding four TAF Babies for $2 each at a toy show.  Then a few years later finding Scribbles for $5.

Grail in my collection?  MOC Crumpet.  I bought her as a reward for getting a nice raise at my job.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Clipper and Sky Rocket.  Clipper is the definition of adorable to me.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

South Africans for the Nirvana hunters, and then Mimic for those who are just starting out.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Trickles. The colour combination is perfect.  And Swirly Whirl, a very pretty pony who's always overlooked.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

MOC Sky Rocket in Canadian Packaging.  Or a ceramic Buttons (not broken)

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I want what I want, and buy what I want.  I have no collection goals, which is why my collection is so outta control.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

One rare pony.  Takes up less space, and I have some many already.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

I paid the most for Tex, figure-wise, and then a couple of my Build-a-Bears were a bit more when I had to get them full price.

As far as which one was actually my grail, though, it was Sugarberry. Her other friends from the set, too (minus Dancing Butterflies, whom I've literally almost always had), but especially her. I've had plenty of Pony grail goals, and still have some, but I don't think there will ever be one I've wanted as much as her.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

A really tough question. I love the Sugarberry I ended up with, but I wish she didn't have in-ground dirt. I'm not totally sure I can pick just one Pony out of my collection to be the favorite.

I really do love Lovebeam, though. She enchanted me as a child and she was a gift from my grandmother. And Ruby Lips was a huge want for me as a kid. I was just thrilled when I got her on Easter. Turquoise with purple hair ... so beautiful.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Rarer Pony: Nightglider, maybe? Or Mimic.... Commoner Pony: ... No idea, to be honest. If they're easier to find, most people have probably got hold of them. Unless they're common, but hard to find in decent condition, in which case maybe I'd say Big Brothers?

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Sugarberry. Some people don't like the main pose, but if they can get past that, a white Pony with gorgeous curly red hair is a beautiful color combination. :)

It's really hard to know what to put on a question like this, though, since as you say, every person's preferences are so different and each one wants something different for their collection.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Mainsail. And Chief, and Steamer.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Whoever I want, from whatever set I want. I did want to complete the first TAF set (and finally did), but that's more because I loved all those Ponies from childhood and not because I was deliberately trying to complete a set. I also want all of the Candy Cane Ponies and the Sunshine Ponies. A character I adore on an episode of Riptide has inspired me to want any Ponies relating to ships, the ocean, and/or the beach. I always kind of liked Ponies with those themes anyway.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Several Ponies, unless maybe the one rarer Pony is one I've been desperately wanting. But even when I want one, I can't afford to spend too much on just one.

I'm 28 and still have my childhood herd, but it's a very small herd and I'm thrilled to be able to build it up like I never could as a kid (because G1 ended shortly after I got my sixth Pony, gah).

Mountain Boy Lightening.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
I don't think I have any rare ponies. But my Sea Star is in excellent shape for a Sea Pony and I was fortunate to get her for a great price.

2. Who is your favorite pony?
I have lots but going by Gen Tropical Surprise, Firewater and Blushie from 3
and Fizzy, Ringlets, Hula Hula, Baby Rainfeather, Sea Star, Skydancer and Bunny Hop from 1

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Mimic. Obviously. Runner Ups include Holly Dash, any Mountain Boy, Rapunzel and Nightlight

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
I wouldn't advise any one pony because everyone has their own personal tastes in regards to Gen, Pose, Color and Species

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Dazzleglow-I owned her when I was a kid and desperately want her again and can't find her BIN Anywhere!  :( My second most wanted is Twist, she keeps eluding me. Whenever I have money, she's not there, whenever I don't have money she's there.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Individuals. I do have several from sets and plan to get several more from those sets, but I don't want every single one. Example: Twinkle Eyes are my favorite, however there are some I just don't like at all.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Less expensive ones. I know there are ponies I will likely never get like SS Twilight, Mountain Boys, the Sunbright family and Starglow, unless I am incredibly lucky. I have a set limit on how much I am willing to spend for individuals and for lots and I need to stick by it.

Ok...gosh that's a lot of questions in one thread!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
MO Sprinkles...wow...she was a long and hard search

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Baby Fifi of course :)

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Gusty or Ice Crystal

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Cotton Candy - everything about her is just so perfectly MLP

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
An upgrade for Baby Pineapple!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
I collect all the poniez.....

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Hmmm...honestly I would not prefer one over the other.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

G1 -- Mail Order Napper and MO Star Hopper
G3 -- October Calendula
G4 -- Star Swirl and Rainbow Flash MIB

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Baby Frosting, because she is a childhood pony, and I'm 100% sure that she was mine (and not my sister's) since I remember getting the party gift pack. My daughter calls her "Frozen" and it's the cutest thing!

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Expensive: TAF Nightglider seems to be a very popular one. Or one of the rarer wingers, like Cool Breeze. Regular: A minty version of a common pony, like a Party Time without regrind, or a Gusty without discoloration.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Peachy. There are probably enough of her to circle the Earth five times, so why not make it a requirement for every collector to have one (or 20)?

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

Expensive: Mimic -- I know, I'm not very original.
Regular: Now that I know there are Celestia-zilla and Cadence-zilla, I must have them. And I'd like to get a G4 Spike figure to go with our brushables.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

Set. Although I only have one complete set, I would like to have them all. (Well, almost ...)

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

Ooh, that's a tough one. One rare pony. The most I've spent on a G1 is $20, and I would rather have one $20 pony than four $5 ponies. If I was willing to drop hundreds, I think I'd personally rather have Sweet Scoops than the same dollar value of common ponies. If I planned to have a large collection, the opposite would be true.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
Italian Blue lickity split!

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Posey and ribbon!

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
hmmm in terms of collectors wanting to own? Year 2 unicorns and Pegasus! Everyone loves them and has to get them! Mimic gets a lot of attention too!

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
SS Angel! She's to pretty!

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Spanish sweet tooth!!!!!

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Individuals!

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Depends on the ponies! Like I'd love a nightlight but I also have a lot of commons on my wish list too!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
Ice Crystal - out of all the ponies I've bought he was the one I was most excited for as I got him really cheap and you know, that kind of stuff is exciting xD

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Baby Leafy. I know he's a cow and not a pony but he's my favourite all the same.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Mimic? Or perhaps the TAF babies? I'm not sure.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Either Jazzie or Chief. Both of those ponies have such unique characteristics that they don't blend in at all. Yes, Jazzie is part of a set of three in exactly the same pose, however I think her colours make her stand out the most. She's so vibrant. As for Chief, his accessories and overall theme are just the cutest thing.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
Hmm, there's no pony I'm actively seeking out at the moment but I'd like Surprise. And Mummy Berrytown.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Generally I collect individuals, but often once I have one of a set I often like to collect the others too (happened with the Rollerskate ponies, Big Brothers, Mountain Boys and Family ponies xD)

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
To be honest it depends on what ponies they are. If someone said "You can have Rapunzel or these few more common ones" I'd pick Rapunzel. But if it was a rare pony I wasn't interested in buying, such as Mimic or Sweet Scoops, I'd go for the more common ones.

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
I don't have anything super impressive, but I have a few nice ponies.  I'm torn between my minty Cool Breeze and blue hearts Dazzleglow.  They're both just stunning!

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Waterfire, I just about lost it when I learned of the existence of a "Contradiction Pony".  Her colors and personality are wonderful too.  Plus, that little flame in her eyes in such a unique touch~

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

Rare:  The Mountain Boys, especially Ice Crystal.
Common: It seems to me that Snuzzle is really sought after and generally a bit trickier to find.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Abra-ca-dabra would be my choice, the witch outfit is too awesome and her colors are very striking in person.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

A long-term goal would be to find a Takara pony dirt-cheap (ha ha).  I would really love to find a beautiful minty Majesty sooner, she is my favorite G1 and I think I would just about die of happiness to get her.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I'm not much of a set completer, although there are some sets I would really like to complete eventually.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

I would prefer one rare pony honestly.  I'll have plenty of time to seek out common ponies, but who knows when a rare pony will pop up again.

1. My most grail-y valuable pony is GITD UK Princess Royal Blue.

2. Same as #1

3. For the G1 line I would say Nightglider is the most sought after just for the simple fact I see people constantly searching for her in their want lists and because she's stunning.

4. If I could advise the pony community to pick up a pony it would be Moonstone because she has it all: glitter, rainbows, celestial imagery. And she's not too costly!

5. The pony I want most right now is TAF Baby Dancing Butterflies.

6. I collect G1s. All of them.

7. I would rather have one rare pony as long as it's one that I really want.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

I would have to say Okely the moose, She is very sought after and difrent so I was happy to get her in a craigs list lot and paid very little for her Mint.
-
My favorite pony? Geez that's a tough one..I can't really just choose one so..I'll have to go with my baby sea pony water lilly, Munchy, okely.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )
Mimmic, and Gusty.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Gusty

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
I'd like to have the slipper sweet shop complete.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
By set.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
Less expensive grate condition!

Altho right now I am dreaming of a clean white glass cabnet filled with near mint clean ponies at my cute little house that I don't have..

I'd rather have a nice smallish collection as apose a huge one that over flows into every room and things get lost and clutter.

I need more merch!

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

well for the moment I am really proud to own a greek pink Firefly MOC as I love her at first sight, when I was discovering greeks and I have been looking for her since this time.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Tickle!!!!  ^.^ ^.^ my childhood pony and yes to me she is just the cutest pony ever done!! (ok i admit just before the greek fireflies, medleys etc etc  :P )

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?

I would say Bubbles or Seashell, they are "common" on one hand but one the other hand quite sought after as they are sitting ponies  ;)

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Tickle, everyone MUST have Tickle in their collection, she is sooo great: rainbow hair, lovely pegasus pose, so nice head, an amazing purple colour  ^.^ ^.^

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

as I am a dreamer (and also a real crazy girl) I really really dream to have a yellow greek pony such as Twilight or Moondancer or the amazing blue Firefly.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

by set: I mean I dream to have all greeks ponies MOC

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

i love grail/ dream ponies so I would say one rare pony  :)

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?
It's a three-way tie between SS Twilight, Gypsy & G2 Copper Glow.
They're all in perfect condition & were grails for a long time. ^-^

2. Who is your favorite pony?
Glory & Surprise.

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is?
At the moment, I'd say it's probably Night Glider. She's incredibly popular (& for good reason.)  ;)

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?
Glory.
A classic pony from one of MLP's most influential years. Her design is simple but stunning. A magical snow-white unicorn with shooting stars on her butt: what more could you ask for?

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?
It changes pretty frequently, but at the moment, I'd say G1 Skyflier.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?
Individuals. I collect ponies whose designs stand out to me, or whom I have a strong childhood connection with. I wouldn't buy a pony I wasn't keen on just to complete a set, although there are some sets that I would like to complete.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)
A few less expensive ones. One pony is never enough, & I love seeing different types displayed together. :)

1. Who is your most "valuable" / proud moment / grail-y pony?

Probably when I got my Mimic.  I think I had been collecting for about a year and was just starting to get serious about my collection.  She was one of those ponies that I never thought I would have.  She is still one of my favorites and IMO she is a gorgeous pony.

2. Who is your favorite pony?

Mint Dreams

3. Who do you think the most sought after pony is? (Apparently it's not Rapunzel  )

I think one of the Mountain Boys.  Maybe Ice Crystal?  I had a couple MBs (Fireball and Lightning) for sale a few months ago and they sold in a few hours.
Gusty seems to be on a lot a want lists for a common/less expensive pony. She is definitely one of the prettiest and one of my favorites.

4. If you could advise the entire community to add one pony to their collection, who would that pony be and why do you think he or she is special / beautiful / unique?

Red Roses

When I first started collecting I thought the Perfume Puffs were so weird looking. I didn't really see the appeal of Red Roses until I got her in a lot. I was planning to sell her but she is so lovely I couldn't do it. She is still in my collection today. Her color combo is so pretty and she is the only US release yellow unicorn.

I'm a big fan of perfume puffs now.

5. Who is your most wanted pony, right here right now?

So Soft Crumpet
She's so elusive.

I also really really want Baby Candy.

I think my dream grail ponies right now are Italian Blue Lickety-Split and Italian Blue Posey.

6. Do you collect individual ponies or do you collect by set?

I like to have complete sets. Though most of the time I end of selling one or two of my least favorites from the set. I don't have a lot of complete sets right now. It is my goal to have a complete US G1 collection.  I would consider myself a 'catch all' collector.

7. Would you rather have one rare pony or a few new less expensive ones? (All ponies in good condition and bought for their proper worth)

It depends on my budget at the time. I tend to buy mostly less common/less expensive ponies. but if an opportunity to get my hands on a rare grail pony comes up and I have the budget I won't hesitate.
