So I was looking at when I first joined the arena and getting back into ponies and it got me to being all nostalgic. I was wondering if anyone else does this? What got you into or back into ponies? Do you remember? Who helped suck you back in, as it were? Or did you just stumble upon ponies on accident and get hooked?

I was brought back into the pony community by Chibi Skittles. I don't know if she's still active anymore. I know I haven't been super active recently. But anyway, she introduced me to the Arena because I was looking for someone to restore the glitter symbols on my G1 unicorns. She told me that one of those crazy people called "customizers" might be able to help. Little did I know that one day I would be one.

From there I met K Cherry Ka who did end up restoring my ponies for me, back before I knew how to do such things on my own.

I then was introduced to Cards4Me who it turns out, I went to church with her mom. And from her, I bought my first G3's. And got totally hooked.

Does anyone else have any stories or memories like that? Or am I the only person who goes through occasional nostalgia trips down memory lane?

Customs / Nichi Tsukinoko here! Hi!
« on: October 02, 2014, 08:00:37 PM »
Hello everyone. I haven't really been active here for awhile. I've been continuing to customize though. I just haven't been making the time to get on and show everyone what I've been up too. Oops.

So I thought I would make a post saying hi and showing the customs I've done. I don't have pictures of all of them, I had a computer glitch and lost some of the pictures. I've been trying to get the owners to send me picts, when they have time to do so, so hopefully I'll have all of them to show off soon.

So here are the ones I do have, in no particular order:

Little Piece of Rainbow was a commission from someone who was a fan of the "Rainbow of Light" custom I did for the Saturday morning cartoon swap of 2010.

Starlite was a gift to a friend. He was made with a g2 McDonald pony and Embroidery Floss.

Katana Driver was a commission. He started off as a g2 pony and has been fully sculpted to become a g4 stallion.   He was named by the woman who commissioned him. He was named after her and her husband's favorite brand of Disc Golf gear.

Baby Bubbles was made as a trade. She was a baity newborn. Now she's an amazing Baby Bubbles.

Baby Tiddlywinks was a commission custom re-hair. She was a gift for a 18 month old who had just been diagnosed as deaf. She is now a teaching aid and has been used to teach that little girl the ASL signs for "sleep" and "Awake" and "horse".

This was a Medley that I got. She had lost most of her glitter symbols and her hair was a mess. She has been lovingly restored and was given as a gift to my baby's godmother as a thank you for hosting her first birthday.

Banana surprise was a 2 year labor of love. When I got her she was in terrible shape. Almost completely bald, what little hair that was left was in bad shape. She had been drawn all over. It took 1.5 years of sunfading before I get could get all the ink off all of her sides. Once that was done, she got a fresh paint job for her 3d symbol and new hair. She currently lives with me, but I'm sure she would love a new forever home if anyone was interested.

This pony was originally a g4 Rainbow dash. Now she is a G4 Medley. She lives in my collection. :)

That's it for now. If I can get a few more pictures of the other restores I've done, I'll post them. Thanks!

Customs / Trying to inventory my custom collection. And Thank Yous.
« on: January 10, 2013, 01:15:31 PM »
So since I'm moving my collection of customs from one room to another, I thought I would do an inventory just to see who I have customs from and how many customs I have from each customizer. I'm excluding myself from this list, because that would just be silly.

I have customs from Kalavista, Calico Star, Lucky4leafclover (no longer at the arena), Lunamoth, RevRuby, doombunnies, Simply Steffie, Roogna, Enchantress41580, PantherChild, Lunaroak, Merry Mint, Pythia, Okami_Amaterasu and Steffers29Madds.

The customizers I have the most customs from are:
Kalavista: 10 customs so far.
Lucky4LeafClover- 8

The rest of the the customizers, I have the following amount of ponies:

DoomBunnies: 3
Calico_Star: 2
RevRuby: 2
Panther Child: 2
Lunamoth: 1
SimplySteffie: 1
Roogna: 1
Enchantress41580: 1
LunaRoak: 1
MerryMint: 1
Steffers29Madds: 1
Pythia: 1
Okami_Amaterasu: 1

And so with that list, I just wanted to say thank you to all the customizers for all their hardwork. Especially the ones I have customs for.  I've acquired these customs over the last 3.5 years from trades, purchases, commissions, swaps, and gifts.  And I look forward to getting more as I continue collecting.

And I just wanted to take this time to let the customizers I have ponies from know that they are appreciated.

Customs / Abby Robette, A famous Painting Swap for Dee_Kary
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:11:53 AM »
My partner for the Famous Painting swap was Dee_Kary and she seemed to fancy prints more than paintings.  So I picked out one of her prints and went about trying to accomplish putting it onto a pony.
The result was Abby Robette, named after the print that inspired her.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Abby started out in life as a Posey that someone took a green sharpie too in an effort to darken the stems on her flowers.  Her hair had turned white and she had seen better days.

So I removed her hair and started painting her.  I did hand painted gradients since I still don't have a decent airbrush, but I think the effect turned out nice enough.

The hair used is all from http://retrodollsus.weebly.com/ .   The orange color is Sweetie synthetic.  The red is Rebel Synthetic. The white in the tail is frost bite Polypropylene.

I painted her eyes red to match the girl in the picture.  the red and orange in the mane were also meant to reflect the girl in the picture.  The white tail was meant to reflect the sheer white drape the girl is wearing.

The hardest part was doing the lettering on the ND side of the pony.  It was very hard getting the arch to look right and the right style to the letters.

Customs / Malibu Heat- A bath and body works pony for Alatariel-Silimaure
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:40:32 AM »
Well, Here is the pony I made for Alatariel-Silimaure. She was based off of the fragrance by Bath and Body Works called "Malibu Heat", so that is what I named her.

.

She has multiple hair colors- all from dollyhair.com.  Oddly enough, this is the one time I failed to write down the hair colors. But that's ok I suppose considering I hand blended each plug anyway.

She was sculpted using super sculpy and painted using acrylics.

I don't know why I decided it should be a carousel pony. Probably because the name of the pony/fragrance made me think of summer and summer makes me think of carousel rides. :p

But in any event, a carousel pony gave me a great canvas to paint the sunset scene. I chose to go with a slightly different color pallet than the fragrance bottle had because I wanted a truer sunset.  Also, because of the colors that Alatariel-Silimaure said she enjoyed.

Customs / Little Piece of Rainbow- A commissioned pony

I've been working on this pony for awhile. She's my very first repose.  And she's finally done. I was commissioned to do her by someone who saw the Rainbow of Light Pony I did for the Cartoon Swap awhile back.  You may remember the adult version-

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

But they didn't want an exact baby. Just inspired by the grown up.  She's different from my original in several important ways- for starters- she has no red in her wings. It has been replaced with "Sunrise Pink".  Also the Blue in the baby pony is a different shade of blue. It is now "Ocean blue" instead of a Sapphire blue.

The tail is different too. I did a tri-phoenix tail of hot pink fading up to light pink as it approaches the heart on the back. the fabric on the underside of the tail is hot pink satin.

Also this pony does not have any of the swarovski crystals or body swirls the grown up version has.

Well I'm glad she is finally done and being shipped off to her new home. She took quite awhile. But finally all my hard work has come to fruition.

Customs / Phantasma for Prismatic. Halloween Swap
« on: October 30, 2012, 02:56:46 PM »
Well after a very long and arduous journey, She has finally arrived at the home of Prismatic.  So here she is, Phantasma!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She started out as a baity Kimono with rubbed symbols and bad tinsel.

She was sculpted using Super Sculpy. Painted with a/a and folk art acrylics, and re-haired with dollyhair colors: Poison Ivy, black magic, sour grapes, and a blend of Passion/Marmalade.

I decided to do a MGR, blanketed pony since I don't do them very often and wanted to try something different.

She arrived with a bag of candy corn and some little Halloween do-dads.

Customs / Blind Bag Twilight.
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:52:56 PM »
I can't remember if I ever posted this or not. If I did, please excuse me. I've not been myself recently. I had intended on making this for the blind bag contest awhile back but when I started my new job life kind of got crazy.

It's my first blind bag.  It doesn't have as much detail as I would prefer, but I'll try to do more on the next one.

Just for giggles:

Please show me: Merry Go Round Ponies.  Custom Merry Go Round ponies.  I do love those!

Hey everyone. I am making a custom for my dad's birthday on the 11th.  I making him a construction worker pony since that's dad's job.  :P

But the only Big Brother hard hat I could find on e-bay was in really good condition. when I got it, It's actually in so good a condition, that I feel bad customizing it. I mean, there isn't the slightest stain or rub to the symbol.

So does anyone have a hard hat that maybe isn't in the best  shape, has some stains or rubs that they would like to trade up for one in great shape?

I just feel really bad ruining a perfectly good accessory if I don't have to.  But I really do need the replacement to arrive by the 10th though..

Here are pictures.

Customs / Customs for a cause- Travels with Rich pilot.
« on: July 18, 2012, 08:40:38 PM »
Hi everyone.  So I'm posting this here with permission from Sourdough Stomper.   ;) Thanks for checking on that for me by the way!

A friend of mine and his family are trying to raise some money for a pilot tv show called "Travels with Rich".  My friend's dad used to work with Will Vinton and now has his own company called Aberle Films.
Doug Aberle (my friend's dad) did animation for things like the California Raisins and if you ever saw the movie "Return to Oz" with Faruza Baulk, he animated the death of the gnome king.  (I hope that doesn't count as a spoiler.   It came out way back in the 80's....)

So now he wants to do a travel show that is about places real people can afford to go. Cause there are lots of shows that take people to exotic locations that few can afford to visit and many aren't exactly handicap or stroller accessible places either.  This show would be going to places that elderly and family on a budget could go and still feel wowed!  Places all over the USA. By taking one road from start to finish.

They are using a website called Kickstarter. How it works is they only get the money they are looking for if they can raise all of it by the deadline. All of it. If they are even a dollar short, they get no money at all. All the money is given back to the backers.

Right now they have less than 14 days left and their goal is $22,000.  Sadly they only have 7 backers right now (me one of them) and only $315 dollars.

So what I am doing is making an offer to everyone who backs  this for $50 or more will get a custom pony from me if they reach their goal.  If they don't reach their goal, no pony, but everyone gets their money back so no harm, no foul.

Also there are a lot of other thank you gifts as well.  So please take a look at the page.

http://www.mlparena.com/projects/654038200/travels-with-rich-the-pilot

And even if you can't financially back the pilot, if you share it on your twitter and facebook pages it would be a big help and I'll try to think of a nice thank you gift for everyone that does so if you tell me.  I'm not sure what it is yet. it may just be a post card or something.   But whatever I come up with you,ll get some sort of acknowledgement.

So yes- If you help me and my friends get this pilot funded with a gift of $50 or more and we make our goal- Custom pony for you.  Any custom pony.  Even a big one.  Cause I love my friends, I support small local businesses, and I really want to see this made into a tv show!

So thank you in advance for your support.  And again, thank you SDS for letting me know if this is ok or not.  You're the best!

Here is a photo of me with Rich.
