Removing G3 glitter?
« on: March 16, 2012, 04:47:38 PM »

Does anypony know of a sensible way to remove the glitter off G3s, that will not take off the paint? Ideally I want to be able to remove the layer of glitter (like on love wishes for example) over symbols without damaging them.

Can it be done?

I'm not sure if there's a way to do it without removing the paint. I tried removing paint and glitter and the paint came off but there was still a layer of glitter underneath.. so I guess I'm not sure if you can totally remove it, hopefully someone else has a good idea for this!

i was using acetone very carefully to loosen the glue, then pick the glitter out with my exacto.... i still scuffed the paint in a few areas and you can tell where the glitter was... There is still a ton of glitter left... a wip if you will....

Very interested in this too....

o btw anyone who doesnt have glitter... I give you some of mine!!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧    Muahahahahaha

Pretty much... um.... no. Sorry, I don't think there's a good solution. The G3 glitter is on there super duper tight and it takes a lot of elbow grease to get it off.

Thats exactly what it aint! There are quite a few perfectly lovely G3 designs that were ruined by awful glitter. And don't get even me started on tinsel.. yuck!

I guess they took their cue from the glitter-symbol G1s and used glitter that wouldn't rub off easily. lol  I used a very sharp pocket knife...but I was using it for bait and didn't care about the symbol.  I suppose you should just get an extra and try scraping the glitter off very carefully....

got it done!!!!  so after i picked/scraped very carefilly all the glitter off, i went in with a little acetone on a qtip which was almost dried.  It smothed out the spots wherer you could tell glitter was, but if you knick the paint, which is likely(the glitter was under one color but ontop of another)  it will scuff a little.  I bet with practice this could be used nicely!

Would something like a Magic Eraser take it off? I've heard people worry about damaging glitter symbols with it, but if that's your goal to begin with, then I guess that might not be a bad thing.

I can understand wanted to remove glitter. I tend to like it, but when it's already partially gone or just a mess, an easy way to just remove it completely would be nice.
