What happened to your childhood pony?
« on: June 11, 2020, 10:34:52 AM »
I didn’t really grow up with ponies, so I don’t really have a childhood pony, but my very first was a Milky Way I found in a charity shop. I had been reading about G1 ponies before on the Pony Corral, so I knew we probably got a good deal (50p) for her. She still is looking great on my shelf! I was just wondering why happened to other collectors’ ponies?

I still have mine! Most are boxed up and in storage.

My kid plays with G4 and the Basic Fun retro G1 and Pretty Parlour, which I bought especially for her so that she could play with clean, new ponies.

They're all in my cupboard, thankfully, and my sister's are in her room on her shelf.

...Because my mother talked me into putting them in storage when I was 11, not getting rid of them.

And so they stayed and are all still with me now.

Plus ten or fifteen I adopted from a childhood friend, who I also consider my childhood ponies as I played with them a lot.

My first pony was Skippity Doo. <3 Tragically, however, my whole childhood collection (including the pearlized baby ponies and Rapunzel!) was stolen out of a storage unit when I was in middle school. Definitely one of the reasons I became a collector as an adult.

Mine are still with me except one of the Celebrations babies that was lost when I was still really young so can't have been young after I was given the Celebrations family. =p I still have the parents and the Pony Bride an aunt gave me for my 9th birthday. I never had many ponies while my cousin had a whole binful of them.

I still have ten of mine, plus a very well-loved fakie. A large chunk of my collection was given away to a family friend's daughter when I was about 10. I'm glad they got some love from her, but I wish I had held on to them. The remainder of my ponies were dumped off at a consignment store about a year later. I can still remember my mom saying "I think it's time to eliminate some of the ponies", and 11 year old me going along with it. I wish I could look to four years later when I'd be back into ponies, because we gave away some that are more sentimental to me now then they were then. I was done with MLP at that point, so my sister had the main say in which ponies we kept. My favorites like Triple Treat and Gardenia Glow were given away, but I still have Toboggan and Royal Bouquet (with a horrendous haircut) who I rarely played with.

I have 6 childhood ponies, the rest were put in a trash bag and brought to the Goodwill about 25 years ago. I was allowed to pick out a few special ones to keep, the rest had to go as my mom said there wasn't enough space to keep everything

I often wonder if I still had my childhood collection if I'd be collecting today

Some of my first few that I remember were Princess Tiffany, Pina Colada and Brightglow. Unfortunately they, along with the other 10 or 15 childhood G1s I had, were given to my older brothers pitbull as chewtoys. His intention was to teach his kid brother not to play with "girl" toys.

Joke's on him though because I rebuilt my entire collection and then some!  :P

Sold at yard sales. My mom always let me sell my stuff and take the money I made. So I sold most of my childhood toys sadly.

My very first pony was a G1 Sparkler, who I called 'Tiffany' because I didn't realize she came with a name, and I thought it sounded pretty. I hardly count her as my first pony though because I wasn't really that interested in her and I lost her before I really got into ponies about a year later. So then it was Baby Blossom, and I still have her.

Most of my ponies were lost in a flood, or at least they haven't turned up yet, although my mom says she recently found a box that she believes to be pony stuff that I can pick through once I can travel freely to her state again. The remaining survivors are here with me, and I've been gradually picking away at replacing those that were lost, and adding a few new ones in the process  :lookround:

Thrown in the garbage by my dad because they were "girl's toys".

I also had a few that I stole from my cousin (I was a desperate little gay boy, ok?  >_<) but I eventually gave them to my bff at school who was really into ponies because the risk of hiding them became too much.

Spoiler
oh btw I'm a teenager so of course I still live with my parents and they've had to come to terms with the pony hoard in my closet

I'm still convinced I had this Sweetberry plush.

Strawberry Swirl was kept surprisingly clean. Tropical Surprise I had no idea about.
As for Star Catcher...there were dead insect parts in her hair. Yep, definitely not pretty.

Sadly I don't have any of my childhood ponies. Somehow they got lost when we were moving house. It still bothers me that I don't know where they ended up. I hope that they were loved by some other children.

They were just fakies, but the timeline goes like this. I played with them, got too old, still kept them in my room, eventually stored them in the basement, came back to clean up basement years later, debated donating them, ultimately didn't, moved them into the back of my closet, forgot about them for several more years, over time tons of stuff got piled up on top of the storage container, fim starts airing, remembered I had ponies and convinced myself I did donate them, looked for them in the basement in false hope, gave up the search, several more years pass, eventually cleared out my entire closet to clean and rediscovered them by chance.

Now they're on my bookshelf.  :P
