What is wrong with my Twinkler?
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:01:03 AM »
I got her at the Antique Mall on the 7th. She appears to have something wrong inside her. What is it? Sorry for the crappy quality, I took this on my 3DS.

I have a G3 Meadowbrook that looks to have the same problem. She was secondhand from a friend of mine who had been storing her in a very damp shed, apparently, so my guess is it could perhaps be mould?  That's my guess by the conditions she was exposed to, anyway, and your poor Twinkler's condition just seems so similar from the photos...

Why don't you open her up and look? Although since it's in a line like that, you sure it's not just stains from a saddle? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture.

Her head is on pretty tight.  The marks appear to be inside of her, they're very light and blury.

It looks like either a bad case of rust or mold :(

EDIT took a closer look. Not rust, doesn't follow the right pattern. I'm going to say mold, poor thing. I'd arm her up to soften her neck glue, get her head off, and clean her good before it spreads more

Hard to tell with the blurry photo ... could be ink spots but also could be cancer.  You can always sunfade her - cover all her symbols and hair and leave her in a sunny spot.  It looks like maybe an accessory like a saddle transferred dye to her vinyl.  Sunfading is your best weapon!

I think there must be either rust or mold inside her. :(

first thought was just marks from something. but if you say it´s on the inside it´s probably mould and that should be easily cleaned up :)

To open her head put her neck under a stream of hot water and wait till the glue loosens up. This can take ages and many tries and I officially HATE taking pony heads off :( but sometimes it´s the only way. Just be careful not to rub too much of her glitter while pulling.

I've heard some people say thread or floss dipped in acetone can be used to loosen glue too, although I've never tried it. If there is something inside, probably best to clean it out.

Honestly it's really hard to tell from the photo. If you could get a clearer one we could help you better...

My first guess would be ink/dye from something that got on to her at some point, though, since it is in kind of a line. It could have soaked in and/or faded over time, causing it to appear to be on the inside. But again, it's difficult to tell.

Its very difficult to tell from the picture...it almost looks like text along her stomach that has partially faded...the marks are very consistent in size and separation as well - I would almost suspect it was from leaning or having something pressed against her which has rubbed off.

As others have said you ll have to remove her head to look inside if you are sure the stain is coming from the inside...thats going to be the only way to know for certain.

I had a Twinkler that was just gross inside. I couldn't see it through her body. If you can see the rust through her tail then there may be something inside.
What color are the spots?

I had a pony like that once. It did turn out to be mold on the inside. The reason it showed up as spots was because her plastic was thinner in those places then the rest of her body, just a side effect of how she was made. Once she was cleaned out the spots vanished.
