For those who are still acquiring ponies or pony merch, whether fan-made or official- how have you been getting them? Do you purchase them online, or risk going out in the pandemic, and maybe picking up a pony or two while you’re out grocery shopping? Or, are you content to make your own merch? How are you getting your pony collector’s fix during these times?

I buy all my ponies online. I used to go to fleamarkets but that's out of the question now. I also follow lots of pony accounts on instagram.
-
being on these forums :)

I always buy online anyway (haven't seen any new stuff in shops for months now), so no change here. -shrug-

eBay.

Ditto, except Arena has been added recently to online purchases
-
eBay.uk, Etsy.uk, and the arena.

Yeah, I've been buying online. I do miss the thrift stores, though.

I'm more concerned about the trade box full of pony things under my bedroom chair that I had hoped to clear out this spring but which covid has prevented because I can't go to the PO while Mum is shielding.
I haven't bought many ponies in ages anyway. I don't generally any more, I don't have a lot of ponies on my wantlist or a lot of spare cash for them either.
Online still operates as a medium for those who can post things, though.
But I've been collecting a long time. I've gone whole years without needing to buy a pony. It's not a concern for me. The last one was Haven Bay as a kind of cheer up we're going into lockdown/late birthday present to myself, and that was back in March.
What I will miss this summer is the carboot sale, but the thing is I no longer live in London so I no longer have access to all the places I used to go pony hunting anyway. So since I'm not even in the right area any more, I'm not excessively bothered about it. There would have been bank holiday carboot sales I'd have been missing, but lockdown means those aren't allowed to run...so...

I've been buying online like crazy. I miss flea markets and thrift stores, but the chances of finding g1 ponies in the wild these days are pretty slim anyways.... At least I can be more selective buying online.

I just got a box of ponies I bought from someone here, and I've taken up customizing while in quarantine. I'm having a blast!

I've been trolling ebay...I haven't won anything in quite some time, though.
Also I'm finally getting around to cleaning up the last few ponies that came in a lot I got awhile back. There's a couple I'm trying to sunfade since I'm home all the time to kind of keep an eye on them.

i miss thrifting, too. It’s just not the same spending hours in a thrift store, digging and finding something cool at the end of the day, as opposed to typing in something you’re searching specifically for and finding it in seconds, with the click of a mouse and buying it online. No suspense or real reward to that.

as a fellow custom junkie, I can attest to that. I’m glad you got so many new ponies to customize! Where can I find them?

I did use up an ebay bucks certificate for a new item on ebay, and I got something from etsy the other day. Other than that, the pony buying has dried up:(
However, I was slowing down anyway. I’ve gotten to that collection state where everything I need is either impossible to find, or darn expensive (or both). I had a large influx of stuff from October through February, so the slowdown was going to happen either way.
With the insanity outside, I’ve been enjoying what I have instead. I cleaned out my pony room(my husband’s been using it as a dumping ground for a while), and I’m back to spending time in there. I’ve got a pile of accessory lots to check against my collection, some new ponies to catalog, a pile of ponies to clean up for trade/sale, and a lot of new collection pieces to photograph and catalog. It’s been a while since I took care of pony business, so I can deal with the backlog. We’re on a super tight budget right now, but all the purchases I made and stashed away in the last year or so feel brand new to me!

I was originally trying to save my money for convention season, but seeing as that may not even happen this year... I splurged a bit. I got a big box of goodies coming from a collector here, and then I bought something on ebay last week, and then I have a Facebook purchase coming probably next week... :yikes: It's all stuff I would have bought at the Fair anyway! Only, there may be no Fair for me ...
Oh! And I'm working on pony projects! Fixer-uppers, clean up jobs, even finishing some long-suffering customs!
-
Ah, but I haven't been getting my fix. :lookround: Lately I've been wanting to buy something new, but I'm not sure what. There are few ponies left on my wishlist, and there's nothing new coming out.
As for Sylvanians, I've wanted the Hoshizora Cat family which just came out. Not only do I not want to spend the $30 to get it ASAP when it will eventually come down in price to the proper ~$20, but last time I checked you can't buy anything from Japan at the moment. I'm having no luck on any toy right now. >_<

Finshed cleaning through 1 bin of thifted ponies and added everyone to my shelves once photograph. Sorted fakes and doubles into resale bag to pass on at some point. Now working on bins of thrifted dolls and once there done I!ll start on the bin of mixed/ to be repaired.
Haven't bought anything new pony or doll wise due to all local toy shows being postpone or closed.

definitely not getting my pony fix :(
i miss thrifting so much

I really miss the flea markets. But there isn’t anything new in stores so that isn’t a temptation. I keep up with the pony news. I was preparing for the Pony Friends Forever Convention but since that has been pushed back, I’ve felt free to focus on non-pony projects that are more immediate. I’ve also been sucked into Breyers, particularly the traditional sized unicorns.
