Title: Roku Streaming has ALL MLP Cartoons
Post by: Mythian on November 15, 2019, 12:05:56 AM
On Roku streaming system they have for FREE all original #MyLittlePony cartoons seasons 1- 2 of 1984-'present' (labeled as 2017 for season 2, don't understand why) including #MyLittlePonyTales all 13 episodes. Along with Escape From Midnight Castle, Escape From Catrina, and The End of Flutter Valley, which are broken up into separte episodes. You can buy Roku at Best Buy. A Merry Christmas to us all!

I'm currently starting my binge with the very first movie of course, Escape From Midnight Castle. It's tradition with all of us, I bet.
I've also found Care Bears original cartoons, but still no Lady Lovely Locks and the Pixietails….Ooo I better go hunt down Jem, too.

Oh how cool! :) The G1 cartoons can be especially hard to find in decent quality, so this is great to know!

This is why I'm so happy my family got a Roku! I've been binging G1 for a while now thanks to this!

The shows are also available on Tubi, but if I remember correctly RaMC and EfC aren't available there.

:O Awesome!

I'm assuming they have the TV edits of RaMC and Catrina?

Escape From Midnight Castle is tv edited removing the Moonchick's song cause of copyright control due to that actor's estate following his final wishes.
Escape From Catrina, I don't think is tv edited. It's been so long since I saw it until tonight.
End of Flutter Valley, haven't watched it again yet to see if it was edited.

Copyright control?  First time I've heard that one. I thought we agreed that + Catrina/Rep's song were cut for time reasons...

AFAIK there isn't an edited version of Flutter Valley, since it was made for TV to begin with.

The specials were definitely cut down to fit within the same time slot as the rest of the MLP 'n Friends episodes. I guess it's not impossible there was also some dispute with Tony Randall or his estate after his death (convenient then that the uncut special hasn't been rereleased since 1991). But he has a song in MLP the movie too, which to my knowledge has never been removed.

They're on there. They're listed as regular episodes of the show (even split into two parts), so that might be why you haven't noticed them.

Tony Randell had said, and I read this years ago in the late 90s, that he hated the song in Escape From Midnight Castle. It was uppity over it, so it put it into part of his last wishes to have it removed from the cut. Its a shame really. The song was wonderful. Maybe Roku could get it set up to a full connected episode like it was meant to be. But the series is all on BlueRay now, but lets hope EFMC Moonchik song isn't cut from those files.

I just think it's weird that a) he'd go out of his way to alter a silly/fairly obscure cartoon and b) he'd ask for THAT one to be excised, but not his song from the movie. Also, again, Catrina got edited the same way... I'm still not convinced this was a rights thing. Unless there was some sort of issue with the guest stars' songs in general, I suppose... that still wouldn't explain Firefly's song being left in, though.

I'm pretty sure all of the post-VHS home video releases have the TV-edited versions of the specials, unfortunately. I'm starting to wonder if Hasbro (or whoever) even has the masters for uncut versions any more...

I've never heard of Tony Randall wanting to have "A Little Piece of Rainbow" cut from RAMC. That was always my favorite part when I was little and I was always upset when the reruns on the Disney Channel cut it out. I agree with Carrehz that it was cut for time because they were trying to condense two specials over 20 minutes long in to 2 10 minutes or less episodes.

I also think the uncut masters have been lost or destroyed and that's why we haven't seen RAMC uncut since Firefly's Adventure or Catrina uncut since the VHS release.

I'm positive Little Piece of Rainbow was cut for time.  It makes sense because, even though it's a great song, you can cut it out and not lose any of the plot progression.  Same with "Remember Those Good (Before You Turned Bad) Old Days" in Escape from Catrina.  I've never heard of any conflicts with Tony Randall or his estate.

The reason they needed time cut out was to accommodate the "MLP & Friends" theme song and ending credits, and also because half of any "MLP & Friends" episode was devoted to the GLO Friends, Moondreamers, or Potato Head Kids.
