Title: Nail polish people! <3
Post by: dragonfly on March 04, 2017, 07:00:31 AM
I looove nail polish. Been an awful nail biter since I was a kid so I keep mine professionally done. But I only treat myself to a pedicure once or twice a year, I'm happy to paint my toes at home. I love fun polish and the more sparkles the better!

What about you? xoxo bonus points show a pic of your nails!

I don't really do my nails. Less than once a year probably. My sisters though are addicted to doing nails.

I need to keep mine short because of my hobbies (aikido and clarinet playing) so no fancy nails for me. I also find that nail polish makes my nails dry, even when I use acetone free remover, so I don't like to paint my nails often. I sometimes use clear polish and very occasionally coloured one for parties etc. but mostly I just go with natural.

I love looking at videos of nail art, however! Some of those are super impressive and it would be fun to have cute nails every now and then.

I haven't worn nail polish in over 10 years. If it weren't for the gosh awful smell I probably still would cuz there are some really pretty colors out there. There was a time in 2003-2005 that despite the smell, I liked to put on black nail polish a lot.

I would love to paint my nails, but I have a bad tendency to chip the paint. So I just don't bother.

ill paint my nails when I know im not going ot be working with my hands :)

Pedis..ive been trying to keep up but im going ot have to give in pretty soon since I go crazy when I feel anything rough.

Nail colours--I typically go for pink, purple, blue, golden tones.  I don't like red and I don't like flat/matte colours.

I love nail polish, but between cerebral palsy and arthritis I've never been great at doing them myself. Jay or my mom will paint them for me if I ask, or I sometimes go and get them done. I love quirky colors, glitter and cute details when I do get them done.

Mostly natural. If I wear any nail polish, it's usually black. I also have a beautiful glittery one, and a blue one I really like, but in general I think nail polish limits my choices too much. It will be on my nails for at least a week, and when I have them blue for instance, I can't wear anything with colour during that time because I don't like to wear too much colour at once. XD

I love the nail polish that shifts colors in different lighting!

I like crafting to I cannot have very long nails - the max comfy length is when the nail is *just* peeking above the end of the finger.

I tend to fall back on natural pinky beige but will usually default to a soft, metallic-gold base and a clear + glitter topcoat. I find it the most forgiving combo as I do end up chipping the polish with all my crafting!

My fave "glam" colour for special occasions is Rouge-Noir by Chanel - it is a deep red-black and looks fab on my toes!  I normally remove the colour from my fingers the next day and revert back to gold

Back in the late 90s I bought a Chanel pot of "Satellite" - it was a gold liquid with bits of sparkly glitter... it is long retired, however I saw a pot on Ebay going for CRAZY amounts...

Heheh and you wonder whay my handle here is "glitterball"

I used to run a nail polish blog and have hundreds and hundreds of bottles of polish that companies sent me to review back in the day. I've had my nails cut to nubs for about 5 years because I always had a tiny baby during that time but now that they're all getting bigger I've grown my nails back out. I LOVE polish and nail art and all that. I don't get to do a lot of self care, so this is one of my only things. I love holos the most.

I love polish but my nails don't. Not only do they chip within minutes they leave my nails so dry ,they just split as soon as you look at them. When I was younger I used to wear a lot - black, usually, then as I got older I would wear other colours. My fave at the moment is a gorgeous lilac-y colour. But I rarely do them any more. And I have never been to get my nails done, ever - I think it will be a waste of time as it just won't last.

I'm a total nail polish addict!  I have more bottles of nail polish than I can probably ever use  and I paint my nails with a different color average once a week.  I used to give myself detailed manicures with "gel look" topcoats and 3D shapes i made myself, but since I've had a baby I'm lucky to be able to paint my nails at all

My insta (sig) has my nail pics, as well as my flickr, kitarei1.

I love getting my nails done, but I can only afford to do so every few months.

Otherwise, I paint them myself - I love Sally Hansen one-step salon manicure polishes because I'm impatient and won't go through all of the extra steps.  :)

When I was younger, I'd sometimes paint my nails, but I haven't done it in years. I rather like the natural look on me, without any sort of polish.

Where's the voting choice for 'My nails are so brittle they break and peel at every opportunity so it's not worth it to spend the money on them'? :lookround:
I do enjoy seeing beautiful nails and nail art though... there are some pretty rad designs out there!

I have very short nails (long or medium ones just get in the way), and I should probably take care of them more, but sadly I don't. I hardly ever paint them, and if I do its probably for a special occasion

I love nail polish but I do a lot of gardening so there's not much point in keeping a colourful manicure. I used to when I lived in London and I got really into OPI.  Apricotcha Cheating and We'll Always Have Paris were two of my favourites.  I have noticed that technology has really changed in the last ten years.  I bought two Max Factor colours over the summer and they are much easier to apply and so quick to dry, but they chip/peel really easily!

I usually leave mine natural.  Partially this is because I keep my nails really really really short.  Like to the point that if the little white edge thing is starting to show I feel like they're getting too long!  It drives me crazy whenever anything gets under my nails(and since I spend a lot of time at the barn with horses, there is a lot of dirt around to get under them), so that's why I keep them so very short.  I don't know why it bugs me so much, but it does.  So since I cut my nails all the time, it would ruin the polish.

That being said, I do really like the look of painted nails!  I almost always paint my nails when I'm going to a concert, and in the summer I tend to keep my toes painted, too.  My favorite colors are pinks, turquoise, and silver.  I wear a lot of turquoise and silver jewelry, so the matching nail polish can look really cool.  Usually I do them myself or my mom does, but my riding coach took all of the students who board horses with her out for mani pedis for Christmas last year and that was really fun!

I love having painted nails but at my job I have to keep my nails clean, so I haven't really done much with them lately. One of many reasons I hope to find employment elsewhere in the near future!

I'm a little too impatient to try doing really cool, intricate designs (and not really interested enough in spending the money to get them done professionally) so I normally just go with a nice base color with some glitter or speckles on top. I don't tend to grow them out though, I just paint my short nails. Last summer I did white with gold glitter on my toes and it looked fabulous.

I love nail polish and I won a lot but because I work retail and I also work as a jewelry designer, nail polish chips SO FAST for me. Sometimes it won't even last a day. I know its not the brand of polish, but rather the extent to which I use my hands.

I'd probably wear nail polish pretty often if the smell didn't give me awful headaches.  :(

Instead I just live out my nail art fantasies through Simply Nailogical and other YouTube nail channels.

Always have mine done. They do chip but oh well!!

I do reds. I have probably twenty different shades. My husband says they all look the same but they are not!! I use a high gloss top coat or a flat with some of them.

 I also like some blues.

Have you tried non-toxic nail polish? There are several brands doing 3-5 - free polishes that steer clear of the most toxic ingredients. And it's even possible to find water based nail polish that are also safe for kids :)

Thank you Slyons and Lovefromsirius

For about a year, I have been getting acrylic nails professionally done.  I decided to start doing it because with all the weight I have gained over the years and my poor health, I wanted some part of my body to look elegant and fancy.  On days when I feel really crappy or sad, looking at my nails cheers me up.  When I was in my teens and 20's I would often get my nails done a few times a year, and got a few pedicures every few years with my girlfriends.  With my Lupus, I can't paint my own toenails so every summer I get a gel polish pedicure and it lasts until fall.

This is difficult one :D Sometimes I go long times without any polish and then sometimes I change color once or twice a week. I love colorful nail polish, especially coral and mint.  :) My nails chip quite easily and I often forget that I have nail polish and do something that ruins it  >_<

I love to paint my nails. I got mine done for my wedding, but that's the only time. I tend to paint then light pink or purple colors. China Glaze Rainbow is my favorite color. I would love to have cool nail art, but my nails are thin and brittle. They break easy.

I've always had very soft nails that I could rip with my bare hands, being a nail biter didn't help either and strengthening polishes did nothing. But about a year ago I managed to kick the biting habit cold turkey and now my nails grow long and strong.

An old boss of mine studied to become a manicure artist and advised me that polish often weakens the nail because it doesn't allow it to breathe. I don't know how true this is but as much as I'd love colourful nails I hate it when they get worn and chipped so I just have mine natural, I work with my hands too much for polish to last long.

On the rare occasions I break a nail I laugh with my coworkers who wear acrylics about how it's not money but time I'll need to spend fixing them lol.

My nails chip and break all the time.  When I do paint them they are stronger.  I'm not sure about whether it weakens nails or not but I don't get a chance to keep my nails painted often.  Now I want to go paint my nails, except they're mostly all broken off at the moment.  :(

I wear mostly black. Sometimes a blood red, purple, or greys/silver. Trouble is any more I have to always wear some sort of glitter (or something similar) top coat or my nails just won't dry right. They'll end up gummy and I'll have to re-do them. Which is annoying as I do kind of miss plain black nails. I do like the glitter though. With that I'll wear blues, silver, black or purple, mostly. On the upside, the glitter layer and then topcoat does make them last longer without chipping. I seem to have trouble with top coats any more as well. I've had to use a different kind than I always used to, so maybe the formula changed or my body chemicals.
