Who is your least favourite big brother pony and why?
For me it's Quarterback. I didn't think 3 blue big brothers was necessary (nor were 2 pink) and would've preferred a red, green or even purple one instead. I just find him the least interesting of the 3 blue brothers. My favourite is Salty because I really like his colour combinations and accessories. Can never go wrong with a blue and purple pony :silly:
-
4-Speed because if you look at the episode which her starred I he is purple not blue, but later on he is grey again not blue. Why make his toy blue while he isn’t blue.
-
Well, I do like all big brother ponies. Picking a least favourite was hard.
I ended up picking quarterback for his blue on blue colour scheme. I'm also jot a sports fan.
If he comes up for sale for a good price, i would still buy him though.
-
Tex for me. I do like them all, but for some reason he grabs me the least.
(Maybe I'm just too British to get the cowboy vibe xD)
I love Quarterback and his blues. I just wish he didn't sticky up so easily.
-
I kind of like them all, but if I had to pick one it would be Slugger - baseball is just something I have zero interest in, and I find his colour scheme boring. My second choice would probably be 4-Speed, there just not enough contrast in his colours to my taste! Contrast seems to be what makes it or breaks it for me. Of the two pink ones, Steamer has a more appealing symbol, I like how the green streak balances the pink colour, and I always love yellow eyes on ponies. Of the three blue ones, Salty has the most appealing colour combo and Quarterback's colours are vibrant enough to make up for the lack of contrast/variety. 4-Speed looks rather bland in comparison. However, his yellow helmet makes up for it! In general, all the ponies look better with their accessories.
I adore all the Year 6 brother ponies, and Tex.
-
Barnacle and Wigwam are my least favorites. Their color schemes just don't appeal to me that much. I chose Barnacle in the poll because I have Wigwam and of course I like him when I have him (even though he's tailless right now). I wouldn't pass on Barnacle either if I found him in the wild. I have a feeling I might like him better in person and either way I need more male ponies!
-
I don't like 4-Speed's, Slugger's, Chief's and Quarterback's symbols, but I like their colour schemes.
Colour-wise, my least favourites are definitely Wigwam and Barnacle. I'm a pastel colour lover. :)
-
I think steamer is disappointing. And I think I dislike Fireball the most, if those boys count too. They just had so much opportunity to go with something other than pink!
-
Though this is one of my least favorite sets in general, lol, I would have to say Quarterback. He's just... disappointing and lazy, not to be too harsh!
-
I'm not fond of any of them. But, Quarterback... his symbol is too simple. I do like Salty best. He's the only one that I would buy.
Tex for me. I do like them all, but for some reason he grabs me the least.

I feel like even in the USA, you have to be from Texas and/or like cowboys to really be into him. At least, that's how I felt when I lived in another state. Anything from Texas was boring.
Also, it bothered me that his name was "Tex". It implied that the ponies knew about Texas? It still seems a little strange to me.
-
Tex. He's just so-so. Ranked favorite to least:
Trucker
Steamer
Quarterback
Chief
Wigwam
Tug
Slugger
Barnacle
Tex
-
I don't care for any of them. But I will say Chief because I don't like to be reminded of the dangers of fire. :P
-
Quarterback here too. He is just too monochrome for my taste. Makes him seem washed out and his symbol is kind of boring. A red one would have been awesome!
-
Wigwam. I don't like his color combo and his symbols are boring.
-
Another vote here for Quarterback. His color scheme is too monochrome. Also not the biggest Slugger fan either.
My ranking goes:
Salty
Barnacle
Tex
Chief
Steamer
4 Speed
Wigwam
Slugger
Quarterback
-
Quarterback for me. I think his color scheme is boring.
-
uhhhhhhhhh unpopular opinion but I don't really like this set because:
A) gender stereotypes
B) I don't collect pink sparkly ponies for there to be mAnLy ones. I prefer how g2 dealt with male ponies by incorporating them into normal sets and making them androgynous (horses irl don't have sexual dimorphism. Silly Hasbro :P)
My least favorite is probably Wigwam because even though I do like his colors the cultural appropriation isn't cute. Also Quarterback because sports.
-
Probably Slugger and Quarterback are my least favourites, because I'm just not a sports fan. I like the others, especially their accessories! Tex and Barnacle are my favourites.
-
I think it would be Slugger or Steamer for me. I know they are pink. I guess it doesnt do it for me. I like the other colors the BB are in. I kinda even like fireball though he should of been more red. :)
-
For me it’s Barnacle, I simply just don’t like the color scheme.
-
I like them all but if I had to pick a least favorite I'd go with Chief.
-
I still like the set but i agree that the gender stereotypes don't hold up well today. And while i also like the color scheme Wigwam makes me cringe today.
Tex is my favorite because I live in Texas and I like the cowboy theme.
-
I think it's dumb to complain about gender stereotypes. It's no worse then when people gripe about MLP being girly.
You don't hafta demonize every single thing. Its a rigid and unhealthy mindset.
Some girls like pink and dolls. Some boys like blue and sports.
Sorry but I'm sick and tired of offense and outrage culture actively looking for things to complain about. Its extremely petty.
-
^ This! It really is extreme these days.

Absolutely, couldn't agree more.
-
It's perfectly valid to criticize sexist stereotypes. And it's of course also ok to like something, while acknowledging there are parts that could be harmful. Ignoring these things would be truly unhealthy.
No one is looking for things to be offended about, people don't work like that. Some people might just be bothered by things that don't bother you as much, due to different personal experiences. I think it's better to try and have some empathy than deciding people are unreasonable and petty. Girls liking pink/dolls and boys liking blue/sports is the social norm and not something that needs to be defended. It's those who don't follow the social norms that are marginalized.

I don't want to derail the thread and get in trouble, but if you would like to discuss our thoughts on the subject further, we can pm.
Back OT:
Anyway, most of the Big Bros rock.
-
Quarterback. Too similar to Tux N Tails.

I'm good thanks. I don't really have much more to say on it, and it's not why I come here in the first place.
One thing though. Before you edited your post you said you thought the criticisms made in this thread were within reason, and that your "people are too offended these days" post was not directed at anyone here. I think that's important to clarify, since anyone who said they didn't like the stereotypes in this set are going to feel your words were directed at them. (As well as everyone chiming in only to agree with you without adding anything else to the conversation. It can easily come off like bullying.)
-
It looks like Quarterback is a common choice and this surprises me. I really ike his monochromatic color scheme and thought more people would too in the way people like Blueberry Baskets and Angel.
-
In my case it's Slugger/ First Base as he could have been more purple or red, but instead he's this weird colour which is too pink but also too dull. I hate dull pink.
As for the rest, I think we have to accept that the Big Brother Ponies were a product of their time, when things about Native American cultures were, unfortunately, swept under the rug. I had to learn the Trail of Tears off the internet...
And IMO, though not canon, Sportstime is a girl.
-
Regarding dimorphism in horses... There is actually some. I believe size ranges are part of it, and IRL stallions have longer eyelashes than mares (although I don't think the pony toys reflect this).
The feathered fetlocks, not sure whether to classify those as dimorphism or as a fashion choice like the bandanas.
In any case, it's better than the snub-snout vs. wedge-snout dimorphism of G4's art.
I'm not fond of any of them. But, Quarterback... his symbol is too simple. I do like Salty best. He's the only one that I would buy.

Well, they do have access to our world. It is still silly though.
I voted for Wigwam because of the cultural appropriation issues. He has a neat color scheme and all, and I'd still get him if I found him, but... Not exactly Hasbro's most graceful treading of those grounds.

^^ This so much! There's nothing wrong with them enjoying trucks and football! And some of them, like Tex and Barnacle, aren't like that. It doesn't bother me at all I guess, I'm just happy to get ponies that are dedicated to trucks and sports, coming from a tom-boy :P
As for ones I don't like as much (but still adore), I'd say Steamer. He and Slugger are too alike but I think Slugger looks better. I think he should of been more orange like he was in the cartoon from what I remember
-
It was a tie between Wig Wam and Quarterback. But I chose Wig Wam because I always find him where the red part of the symbol is hard to see against that orange. Symbols are important and I like them to be clear and not fade into the body color. Also, I don't like Wig Wam's backcard story.
Quarterback on the other hand just has too much blue.
