Pony Corral / Re: Tell me about your Ponysona!« on: January 23, 2025, 06:32:15 PM »
I have two, both designed in my 20s. While they both represent me, I would do a full redesign if I weren't attached to all the adoptables I've collected over the years from artists who are no longer active. (I definitely have a design in mind.) The personas don't have names, mostly because I suck at naming things.
The first is a pegasus I created in 2004. I would have just gone with Medley, but someone well-known at the time was already using her as her persona. Not sure why I picked that pony type - I'm afraid of heights. I guess it's because Rescue at Midnight Castle/Firefly's Adventure is my favorite G1 special. She's purple with rainbow hair because that's my favorite color, and I love rainbows. She has TAF silver glitter symbols because I like glitter, and the TAFs are one of my favorite sets. Music notes because I sing and played the clarinet. She started as this. visitors can't see pics , please register or login And was transformed to this. visitors can't see pics , please register or login The second is a redesign from my late 20s, who was clearly subconsciously inspired by Streaky, another of my favorite sets. All of the same likes as the previous, with the change to a unicorn because I like them better and the addition of the stars because I love stars. The scale is the B♭ scale because I played the B♭ clarinet. Gradient legs just because that was a popular thing around that time. I use both ponysonas interchangeably. visitors can't see pics , please register or login 3
Pony Corral / Re: So Who are the NEW 2025 Basic Fun Workout 80s Ponies?« on: January 23, 2025, 06:08:46 PM »
So I'm pretty sure that I do need glasses. That said, to me it looks like Starshine, Skydancer, Moonstone, and Firefly in an '80s style. The hair really reminds me of Argentine ponies. The Starshine package mockup on the left gives Lisa Frank (I would die if we ever got a Lisa Frank x MLP collab) and G4 Wild Rainbow vibes. The package on the right says Stranger Things, and it will probably be a one-off pony - the white earth pony - like Upside-Down Applejack. I haven't watched beyond season three of ST, but most of what I've read says that it's the radio station in the show.
Additional thoughts... These are super cool, and we need to make sure that Basic Fun! and retailers know that we're excited for them. Remember that the Flutter Ponies debuted at Toy Fair and were shelved because no retailers would pick them up. 4

Between the two new friends, I prefer Daisyjo. I like Sparkleworks II in the Sunny Daze I pose, though.

Kimono. Purple is my favorite color, and she and Pinkie Pie were my first G3 purchase way back in the summer of 2003 at Kay-Bee Toys.

I have mine, but I don't do much with it.
www.starbritesprinkles.com And the meet website and hair guide. www.swpaponymeet.com www.mlphairmatch.com I actually just did a bit of work on the wiki community portal page the other day. It's not by any means perfect (haven't gone beyond G2 to update yet and don't like the appearance), but there are a lot of old sites linked there for nostalgia. http://www.mylittlewiki.org/wiki/My_Little_Wiki:Community_portal 8

Thank you so much to everyone who attended today and those who helped from afar to make the meet a success again! I appreciate each and every one of you so much and hope that you had a great time. I am exhausted and took about three pictures, I think, but I hope that everyone else got some good ones. Hope to see you all again next year!

My G3 collection is nearly complete, but the patterns are a nightmare for match purposes. While I'm not willing to share site login info since it's linked to my Google acct. and other sites, I am always happy to accept match submissions using the form or any of the contact methods on the site. I'm currently very busy with back-to-school on Monday, back-to-work on 09/09, the SWPA Pony Meet on 09/07, editing My Little Wiki, as well as some ongoing health issues, but I hope that I'll have more time to devote to the match site soon! 11

I referenced it for release info for the Hair Matching Guide (probably still have a lot of things wrong, but I'm doing my best), and I didn't find anything major that I can remember. If anything, it would be nice to have the ability to enlarge your photos by clicking/tapping.

Pony Corral / Re: Could g5 be the potential downfall of mlp?« on: July 16, 2024, 07:46:58 PM »
G1 and G3, while nostalgia definitely plays a part for me, are attractive because of their variety of characters (not counting Core 7). According to the MLP Merch count of G4 "brushables," 679 of the 1034 releases are Mane 6 or supporting secondary characters. For G5, it's 99 of the 121 releases. I don't want to keep buying the same character over and over. (That's what Barbie is for.) Quality is also far less than G1 and G3, though both are not without their flaws.
Like Taffeta said, Hasbro has to be willing to let go of its G4 cash cow and fully embrace a new generation and fresh design that is not at all attached to Friendship Is Magic for the brand to have a chance at continued success. Right now, it feels like they're just dipping their toes in with G5 and keeping G4 alive as a fallback. I always felt that they let G4 fans - we all know which ones - have too much influence on the show's and toys' directions. |
