Title: New Greek Baby Ponies discovered!!!
Post by: Aeithales on May 13, 2012, 02:19:29 PM
Hello Ponies!!!

I know I don't come in here often but today is a special day for me because I come with some really great news! A friend of mine found some El Greco Baby Ponies and among them, she discovered an unseen version of Baby Cuddles - yes, yet another one - and a rare Cotton Candy/ Blossom variation!

I have mentioned earlier that there were rumours about some more Greek Babies but I didn't want to confirm anything unless I saw them first: there was one fellow Greek that has discovered two orange Baby Cuddles with purple hair and hot pink rattles' symbol but didn't want to share any pictures. However, last week, a friend of mine found her and now, I can proudly present her to you, the newest member of the Baby Cuddles' siblings! Actually, she looks a lot like Baby Peachy's (=Melenia) cousin:

And, as if that wasn't enough, she discovered a weird Cotton Candy / Blossom variation: she is a purple Baby Pony with CC's cutie marks! I will call her Blossom Candy or, RosaLilly in Greek  :P  There she goes:

Wow!! That Peachy-Cuddles is beautiful! It seems that there are Pegasus babies to correspond to the color schemes of each of the earth babies now... oh wait, I don't think we've seen a Lemondrop colored Pegasus baby yet.

Edit to add:
Did these lovely babies come with blue buggies?

Wow!  Are they MIP too?  Where were they found?

To cut the long story short, my friends' family had a store for rent and when the last tenanst left without notice, they abandoned their stock to compensate for the money loss!! The place hadn't been open for almost 15 years and the ponies - among other toys - were saved the very last minute from a cleaning raid - you can imagine "How Clean Is Your House" à la Grecque

If my memory serves my right, one comes with the pink buggy and the other with the blue. I'll have to confirm that, though! They are both still MIB and in excellent shape!

I am pretty sure now that El Greco used the same colours that they already had available to create new ponies. Once a colour scheme was popular, why not repeat it? Think of the other pegasus Baby Cuddles, they correspond to Bowtie (darker shade of pink hair), Blossom and Minty. So, a pegasus in the colours of Baby Lemondrop could have been made - but what would her cutie marks be, a rattle, musical notes or lightnings? What's more, they made orange adult pegasi, anyway, so, why not make a baby too?

Keep in mind, none of the babies is - or will be - mine, this is just a pony-fix for me!

wow! i would have loved to dig through and see what else was in there! some goodies as well as big spiders no doubt.

not so long ago gazzy found a yellow firefly, her pictures is here in the gallery ~

http://mlparena.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=217795&g2_page=2

her hair is neon yellow like surprise though, as far as i am aware this colour was not used on the greek ponies. also she had knots holding her mane in place. we don't know much of the pony's history (only that she was a childhood pony) is she a restore, OOAK or a new pony?

seeing these new ponies made me think of this firefly again and i am wondering if or how they all fit in.

love pkw xxxx

Wow! Gorgeous! What a lucky friend you have (and sounds like these ponies had a lucky escape too!)

I'm always amazed how many 'new' ponies show up that we have never seen before; esp from countries we thought we 'knew' so well like Greece.

Thanks for sharing!

I can understand how collectors can be skeptical about the authenticity of these ponies... The fact that new Greek variations appear out of the blue can, quite rightfully, cause a lot of raised eye-brows. However, I believe that our community is not familiar enough with El Greco toys. There was ABSOLUTE CHAOS (I always wanted to write this  :P )!! Friends here who collect Bibi-Bo dolls - the Greek equivalent of Barbie, and far more popular than any other El Greco toy - cannot even create a Wish List! There are uncountable variations of every doll! Same thing with the Happy-Happy Sisters, the Patapouf plush dolls, and so on and so forth! A die-hard collector would consider themselves lucky, or unlucky, depending whether you see the glass half-full or half empty! Too bad the information is not available on the Internet; that would explain a lot on how El Greco units worked.

Here is how I see it: there is an (adult) green Firefly instead of a Green Medley, right? Well, there is definitely a Green Medley too out there, as it was originally supposed to be, she is just hiding somewhere! When I was a kid, a neighbor owned pink Firefly and we used to play for hours together. That pony, however, is one of the rarest and most sought-after versions and I never saw her loose since then! Why is that, I will never understand! I am convinced there should be at least two more baby unicorns, a monochromatic yellow and a monochromatic green, because it makes sense with El Greco: they made a pink one, a blue one etc. Production was inconsistent, especially with adult Unicorns and Pegasi and I find impossible even to file all those variations. However, there seems to be some sort of pattern with baby ponies.

Now, to be honest, it never even crossed my mind to take a head off a pony's head to check how the mane is secured, compare it with others and all that. As I grew up with these ponies, there is only one proof I subjectively ask for: I only believe what my eyes and my instinct approve as genuine El Greco madness!!!

I'm purchasing that Firefly baby, I'm seriously praying that she's not a rehair. Something tells me she's not though..  And I trust Gazzy. :) so I'm very happy. I hope to find those two Greek babies one day for myself as I'm wanting to collect the all. ^.^

They certainly look authentic to me. :) Granted I have only ever owned one greek and I probably don't know enough about them to tell really.
But is there any known baby like that from before? An orange pegasus with rattle symbol? I mean if there wasn't anyone like that from before, then why would anyone rehair this one?

My spies tell me that someone found TWO of these orange pegasus babies with orange hair and rattle symbols MIB with buggies some months ago from an old toy store outside of Athens and that one of them is -gossip has it- already sold to a high-profile collector... Some people who find old MLP stock here don't want to share information with the rest of us, assuming this attitude adds up to the ponies' value. Or, maybe they believe we are going to raid their houses and steal the treasure, who knows? Too many actions films or FIM episodes, if you ask me.

Oi, there are rumours that there is a dark blue baby pegasus too, in the colours of Greek Baby Glory *ducks to avoid flying fakies*

I agree with you. I think there is a pattern to the greek baby pony color scheme. This new cuddles fits in with the color scheme that we have seen.
Gazzys firefly raises an eye brow for me because that color scheme has not been seen before on any baby pony. And the mane being rooted like that
leaves no doubt it was not factory done. But fingers crossed she is the real deal.

I just can't decide if that purple baby cotton candy is a blossom hybrid or a cotton candy hybrid!
I guess I won't have to bother with deciding as I probably never will have the chance to buy her for my blossom collection. ;)
She is really cute! (I love purple ponies, and blossoms)

Those are my sentiments entirely Norrskensljus. I think her markings should safely classify her as a Cotton Candy, even if her colouring belongs to Blossom. Even so I'm suree she coould sit quite nicely in my Blossom collection!  :good:

aeith ~ yes i think ABSOLUTE CHAOS :P is the right way to describe what went on, there is some much variation within the greek pony line. all the variations in ponywear and the unicorn/pegasus line. i have seen the happy happy sisters and bibo dolls so i understand what you are talking about. i am now wondering IF there was a version made to match the other ponies? or is there no real pattern what so ever? (going back to the chaos theory again!)

princess sparkles ~ baby firefly is super sweet and she is OOAK for sure :) i have a long talk with gazzy over the pony's history, the pony was from someone's childhood collection. the rotting of the mane and colours just makes me wonder how she fits in with the rest of the greek line. there is no doubt that the greek ponies were hand finished, so that may be how she fits in. she is unlike any other greek baby found so far :)

tootie ~ as far as i know this is the first peach and lilac rattle baby found :) before we only knew of the green (with white hair), white (with pink hair) and lilac (with lilac hair) variations of this baby :D

love pkw xxxx

Personally, I would classify the baby as a Cotton Candy also, a bit like 'Applebelle' is generally considered a Bluebelle one rather than Applejack :)

That's interesting information about the colours, Aieth! *hopes for a blue pegasus* That does explain some of the duplicated colour schemes!

Like everyone else said, I love the Blossom/Cotton Candy baby. I love purple babies, I wish more had been made. It makes me kind of sad that I will probably never own this one.
