So every weekend I spend a day with my dad, and I normally try to get him to come to where I am (by the beach) as opposed to a half hour away in the forest where he is. I am so bored by where he lives as I grew up in a similar town and there's nothing to do, so every time he suggests me coming there for the day I do my best to change the plan. A little spoiled of me I guess, but I want to have fun with my dad and not sit around at his favorite diner all day :P
Well today I decided that A) I wanted to hang out with him today instead of waiting til Sunday (plans on Saturday already) and B) when he suggested going to his town, I didn't fight him on it. I dunno why, something just told me to go with it.
And then of course, my pony sense told me to go straight to the town's only thrift store xD So of course I did. And what'd the first thing I see in the first bin of the toy section? Little pony feet sticking up in a plastic bag. Omg! I never have luck in thrift stores. Only one other time have I found a G1, but this time there were two. A pony bride, and oddly enough, a very yellow moondancer.
Of course the first thing I think is, "haha, wouldn't it be cool if I found one of the legit yellow Moondancers? Yeah right, not with my luck." I didn't take a very good look as it was crowded with other lame toys. I bought them of course!
Later on I took them out of the bag and I just couldn't get over how yellow this Moondancer is. I mean it's not like a gross discolored yellow, it's like sunshine yellow, like... I just made the comparison in not very good light but very similar to a G4 Apple Bloom. I'll check again in natura light tomorrow to make sure I'm not making a totally wrong comparison though. Plus, the coloring is very even and is still the same color yellow inside the neck seam on the parts where the glue has come loose. Sadly a few of her stars are rubbed a bit but they're still very much there! She's very pretty even with the kinked braided tail :P
The hooves say Hong Kong, '83 Hasbo Pat Pend, if that matters. I know there's an Italy one and a Hong Kong one. I just wouldn't believe my luck, why would there be a true yellow Moondancer in the middle of the forest in some dinky town in California?
Both the ponies are pretty dirty but I will post pics when I get them cleaned up! I'm very excited to have both of them even if this one doesn't turn out to be the yellow one. Also, Pony Bride has some crazy messed up tinsel, which I'm a little bummed about but hey what can you ask from a thrift store?
ETA: The next day I went to the flea market and found a flat foot Cotton Candy, too! Omg my luck is up :)

Grats, can't wait to see pics!
-
Hmm, photos will be interesting! How exciting if she turns out to be legit!
-
Can't wait to see pictures - congratulations.
-
If she was from Italy she would have ITALY stamped on one foot.
-
Congrats on finding G1s. I can add the advice to look at the whites of her eyes to make sure it wasn't a dye job. Her hair could resist a light colored dye, but the white of her eyes would be yellow.

congrats would love to see pictures as I have yet to see one in person

Awesome! Congrats!

Wow, congrats! Hmmm maybe I should start checking out thrift stores in CA too!
-
Oh wow she really is a yellow moondancer! Congrats.
Can anyone refresh my memory on the disputed origins of the yellow hk moondancer? (Besides being rare)
-
Nice find! I don't know how rare yellow Moondancers are, but it's a nice find even if she were normal! She looks pretty minty. :) Congrats
-
woohoo you have her ; ) I think yellow moondancer was only released in Scandinavia, australia and nz?
-
lol! I would keep her for sure if she had ever been on my wishlist, but I've never even actively wanted a regular Moondancer, so I dunno! I'm not the hugest fan of Moondancer's pose... but she's actually so pretty with the yellow.
