Who Has Held or Increased In "Value"?
« on: April 08, 2012, 11:31:14 AM »
Ok...so in the current ever so depressing economic climate  , I seem to find and see people say that a lot of ponies have lost the value they were going for a few years ago. I know this is because "more" ponies are being found and sold but likewise with so many ponies going into private collections some ponies are actually becoming a little harder to find.

However, with so many ponies dropping in value, I just wondered who is "holding their value"...i.e. which ponies do you think you would have to pay the same or more for now than you would have a couple of years ago...I am excluding nirvanas of course!

My first thought was Red Roses - she seems to be more expensive now than she was a few years ago and she has steadily expensive for the last 18 months or so...

Any other thoughts?
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

In my opinion Mimic has held her value and also Seashell seems to go for silly prices recently.. Ice crystal has definitely held his value if anything he's more expensive now :drunk:

i don't have lots of knowledge on this, but UK Mountain Boys seem to have high value.  I've been watching, but I don't know what they were worth 10 years ago.

The popular bunch still seem to be holding value: Mimic, Year 3 sea ponies, Angel, Crumpet, TAF babies...
I noticed a drop in some mountain boy prices but there seems to be alot around at the moment
Summer wings seem to be in hot demand right now.  Where as 7 Tales have dropped alot since their huge price spurt last year.  Pearly Baby ponies seem to have lost value too.
How are Loving Family Daddies doing at the moment? I'm looking for Daddy Sunbright : ) Mommy is lonely

Prices are all over the place at the moment and there seems to be so much competition for everything too : (

Oooh that got me thinking I've not seen Mint Dreams for sale in ages!... Is she becoming rare? I've seen far more Mimics lately x

I believe the TAF babies have gone up. When I first joined, they were $35-50, depending on which one it was of course. Baby Up Up & Away was most often times on the lower end. Now though, they seem to be hitting $80, sometimes as high as $100. :awake:

I haven't seen Mint Dreams at all either! Apparently the last one on eBay went for ~$13 BIN in the beginning of March then one for $16 in February.
Also yes! Those TAF babies are reaching some pretty high numbers lately.

The tropical ponies seem to be going for over twice as much as they were 3-5 years ago.

I thought the Mountain Boys were ridiculously increasing in price lately but I managed to grab Thundercloud on ebay the other day for £20 so the bargains are still out there. Mostly I don't think the economic climate has affected too much! At least when I'm trying to buy...

Maybe it has been countered by the whole FIM thing...

I waited and searched and got one for a decent price a few months ago, I think under $20 or $25, but I've seen Mint Dreams for sale for over $40, sometimes more than Lemon Treats. I can't remember if I've seen one actually sell that high, though, or if that was just the asking price.

Sweet Scoops has definitely gone up in value over the years. Around 2006-7, I saw her go for under $100. When she was the last pony I needed to complete the US collection (2010-ish) she was going for $250+. Now I think she's coming in at $350+. While I think Rapunzel has been slipping in value in that same time frame, Sweet Scoops continues to go up & up.

I second Crumpet, Mimic, Red Roses and all the Mountain Boys.

I'd also say the TAF babies and Munchy have remained pretty popular and pricey.

I remember Happy Tails Tabby being sought after and expensive back in the day, over 20$ easily. All of the Happy Tails seem to be far less sought after now.  Costume/Jewelry Pony Wear was also very hard to find back in the day.

Night Glider (most of the second set TAF's, actually) have fallen a lot.  Angel seems to remain fairly rare and elusive, though possibly not quite as desired as Crumpet.

Mint Dreams actually surprises me a lot, she was the first Candy Cane I found and was never particularly popular before. o.O

Scribbles/Dabble remain expensive, Goldilocks has fallen a great deal.
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

Hathorcat, I've noticed wingers have been holding and increasing in value.  I paid less than $20 for a beautiful Starry Wings a year ago.  Today, she's been averaging more.  Their prices are up and down, I've been buying them for years!  I've paid as little as $2 for Little Flitter in good condition to over $40 for some mint beauties.  Considering Argie prices, all of mine have been $65 and under (mostly under!).  I've noticed Boy ponies prices have been holding strong too.
