I finally had time to photograph my Fang Club Venus. Would anyone still be interested in a mini review?

This is so freaking cool! She has a removable face like the G1 Inner Monsters used to have.

I love it! It's weird to read they are planning on releasing them next year. It's too wide of a gap between releases.
Sad to hear Jem has bad hair quality. I would really like for this line to do well so they can create more characters!

@Zapper, if I didn't know better I'd think the bronies had found a new fandom in which to roost.

I wouldn't compare the G1 vs G3 wars to Bronies, tbh. G3 fans are very social justice focused. Something that I don't think is a problem. The problems come when these fans demand their G3 playline dolls to take away from original collectors.
I get where the compairson comes from. It's new gen fans saying old gen is bad. But with MH you have a lot of fans who are just weirdly entitled to collector dolls for some reason and are jealous that G1 has a collector fandom while G3 is considered "for kids".

The Mattel Creations forums have less of these people. They are mostly on Reddit and Youtube. But even on the Creations forums there's people who get really bent out of shape when it comes to fashion dolls. Recently, people have threatened the designers again and demanded for them to be fired. This time the designer for G3 Collector Catty. Because reasons. Some people have even started to say that G3 Catty is racist.

I mostly come here to vent so if anyone doesn't like me bringing drama here, btw, just let me know and I'll spoiler it next time  ;)

I've seen some G3 fans absolutely celebrating they are going to get fooled into shelling out $100 for a doll that is still on shelves. Yes, I know the voting element is fun (and you pay $10 for it if you are new to the club) but G3 simply has no business infiltrating a G1 collectors club.
It's still on shelves, still getting new dolls, including Catty.

G3-only fans (who unironically call themselves G3 supremacists on Reddit) are saying this is only fair because "G1 is getting all those collector releases". Well no sh- Sherlock, G1 is the original property. It's like those 60s style Barbies. Nobody would say "it's only fair the Barbie Vintage club has slots taken over by Made to Move or The Barbie Movie". Why? Because for Barbie people understand that vintage is vintage.

Meanwhile a lot of G3-only fans seem to think G3 is just the "improved" versions of G1. But Mattel themselves have said it's a different universe alltogether. They even spoofed it on their socials with G1 dolls opening a portal to G3 world.

In the end I don't lose anything because I am not an active member of the club right now and I wasn't keen on such an expensive doll in the first place (having just bought Club Venus). But it created a huge fight between G1ers and G3ers and most of the criticisms got fought with "you are just fatphobic, you just hate Catty's body, you want her to look anorexic again". No. How about it's bad business to change up a club people pay for and overcharge people for a character they can still see in stores.

Nobody takes away the G3 Catties but G3 just took a slot that people wanted to go to the old style doll. It's not rocket science to understand why G1 fans are angry. If this had been a favorite character of mine and she was suddenly G3 I probably wouldn't have bought her, either, despite liking some G3 dolls.

Last year everybody was in love with Fang Vote Jinafire. Nobody wanted her to be G3 despite all those people saying G3 is superior. Now suddenly Catty is "better" because she isn't thin like G1. It's an odd hill to die on.
Also am I tripping or do both G1 and "skinny" G3s have unrealistic bodies? I mean, they are dolls. Even back in High School I didn't see many curvythin girls. Either you were a beanstalk or you started to fill out prematurely (and got perved on by boys). Girls looking like G3 Cleo virtually didn't exist.

Fang Vote Catty is G3 instead of G1. G3 and G1 fans fight because G3 fans always defend G3 and G1 fans feel cheated because they wanted a high-end G1 Catty.

I am happy this is the third year I am not in need of the Fang Vote doll. I was so afraid it was gonna be a character I really love (so glad Venus lost and became a club doll instead because she was so much cheaper that way).

I gotta say, compared to the other two this one looks a tad underwhelming. She looks a lot like the regular G3 Catties so far.

Brightberry, the price tag is the same for all of these designer dolls. It's really steep, yes. But I will say they gave us a whole new mechanic with this one and the fabric wings are very special, too, so it looks like she is "worth it" compared to her series-sister Lenore from last year who was "just" a regular MH doll without a gimmick or extra limbs.
Lenore actually went on sale last year and is still in the shop so with some luck these prices will go down.

I don't need her in my collection but I think she's cool. I really hate the pink skin, I wish she'd have a human skin tone or anything other than pink. She reminds me of the dragon CAM.

In other news:
-Shoes found that point to a Lost Boys Skullector release
-Reel Drama re-release with new Cleo planned for this month or next
-Us Skullectors on the horizon for next month
-Little People Collectors MH edition out now
-New MH edition Uno out now

The franchise seems to be going well. Dolls sit in the Mattel Creations shop but sales seem steady. I wonder when we'll hear any news about the new movie.

most of their male-oriented IP makes them money (because males are often not the ones buying caregiver products like diapers, clothing, and toys).... so they can spend it on Transformers, Star Wars, and Magic: the Gathering...

Quoted for truth.

I think it's a bit nuts they have been observing companies like MGAE and Mattel for years and still don't understand the doll, surprise and figurine market is where you get women's bucks. Not that I want them to rip us off but over the years I have been so baffled by Hasbro's business decisions.

Hasbro had a good thing going with MLP and LPS and could have included Jem back into their girl IPs but now Jem is with Loyal Subjects, yet another IP Hasbro just rents out and doesn't do anything with themselves. They should have built up Jem back when everyone wanted 80s Stranger Things nostalgia. They had another shot when the Barbie movie was making it big and everyone was ready for pink, girly, girl power stuff.
Now it's too late, we are cycling through late 90s/ early 00s nostalgia currently.

Mattel also snatched back the Disney Princess IP they lost to Hasbro a couple years ago. This cost them another piece of the pie. Their SW doll line bombed due to bad engineering (the fighting gimmicks did not work at all) then they blamed it on "girls don't watch Star Wars" 90s sexism style. It's like they half-*** their girl lines and then make surprised faces when people gravitade elsewhere.
They need to step up their game.

New G1 MH character to be revealed next week as the next in the Designer Series! Rumored to be a Philippina due to the shoes and other leaked finds. The color combo is already looking like Peppa Pig but I'm still looking forward to the reveal :P

I'm amused by "emerging markets, including girls."

...Hasbro just discovered girls exist o.o. ;)

Talk about the discovery of the century.

I was thinking the same thing. "3. Everyone Plays: Expanding reach in opportunity areas including girls and emerging markets" - hope this doesn't mean "10% for girls and 90% for the secondary adult male fanbases" because it's suspect both are named in the same sentence.

I found a MIP monster high polly pocket play set , anyone have more info?

It's a common set based on G3, nothing exclusive, I see it around stores a lot. It's cute!

I miss the fact her blue hair is unique to her with Cleo currently sporting that look

Her hair is green now, so I fear Cleo will never stop being blue. I wish they'd make Cleo a brunette with occasional blue and golden streaks again. But despite all the new racial diversity, they seem to hate brown hair in G3. Only Clawdeen has it sometimes because it's her fur color. Very weird.

Speaking of leaks... we're gtting so many right now. The new Elvira prototype:
https://www.youloveit.com/dolls/4319-monster-high-collector-elvira-doll-2025.html

We can clearly see that her eyes are painted and her box has a mock-up of the new eye make-up. I'd love to know where these leaks come from.
I am really in love with this new Elvira and now I am wondering how I am going to budget for the summer... urgh. Need her and the new Nefera.

G3 Nefera leaked!

Spoiler
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She looks so much better than cartoon Nefera and looks tall+curvy. Pet got a name change but hey, it's not a cat or a dog! I am a bit shocked she still has her poop-beetle but Venus had to get a crazy mutant instead of a plant

Edit for reference. Here is how she looked in the cartoon show.
Big golden eyes, random patterns on a boring dress and blonde streaks. All topped off with mismatched red jewelry. If G3 Sig Cleo was a downgrade of her cartoon version then Nefera is the upgrade. I'm just so glad my girl got her eye color back.

Derry Girls

I'm not even Irish but the time period was my childhood and the humor is right up my alley. Too bad it doesn't have that many episodes but I'd rather have a good show that tells its story and ends than neverending garbage. I just love rewatching it.

A show from my actual childhood is Jem.
My American relatives had it on tape and I always thought it was so scandalous for a cartoon. I love rewatching Jem when I need something light and nostalgic. The music has also aged really well. Other shows from that time period are damn near unwatchable to me. Jem was baby's first soap opera.
I only grew up with a couple eps, so as an adult I sought it out and binged the whole show and was hooked
