The Dollhouse / Re: The CaM Appreciation Thread!!!
« on: December 24, 2012, 02:08:50 AM »
Hi everybody! Christmas came a little early in my house... and that means I finally have some CAMs of my own! Most of them are hairless at the moment, but one of them is all wigged up and dressed up :D

This is my first time taking a picture of one of my dolls, so please forgive the amateurness of it

The outfit is all Bratz clothes and the wig is one I found on eBay for super cheap and figured I'd take a chance on. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

The CAMs I got are really great, for the most part, all nice and firm joints (just one loose elbow, but it's not loose enough to fall out) and great face-ups (I ordered from Amazon, so it was risky). I'm really happy with them!

I sent you a friend request on Gameloft, StarlightGaze! I hope you don't mind :)

If anyone else could use another friend there, please feel free to add me! I only just joined, under the same name I use here :)

The Dollhouse / Re: Winx shoes/boots on MH dolls

Do Winx clothes fit MH by any chance?

I've been wondering about the same thing... I've seen the Believix clothes on MH dolls (they seemed to fit, but the style was totally... not a fit XD), but I haven't seen anyone put the Concert Series dolls' clothes on a MH doll.

Well, it kind of depends, I guess. Compacts with the dolls and accessories they came with are the most sought after. Empty compacts are still collectable, of course, but they don't have anywhere near the value of complete sets. The dolls and accessories (especially the accessories, since they're hard for non-collectors to ID as being PP accessories, unlike the dolls, which are pretty well-known) are so tiny, they often were lost. So empty compacts are pretty common.

In other words, I think any PP collector who doesn't have those compacts would WANT them, but they're not really worth a lot, money-wise.

Thank you so much for the in depth information. I've been seeing a lot about these dolls and wondering about them being a source for clothes/shoes. I'd really been hopeful about them, but after seeing this, it just doesn't seem worth it to get these...

The Dollhouse / Re: What was your first MH item/doll?
« on: December 18, 2012, 01:02:43 AM »
The first one I bought was SS Frankie. I first was drawn in by seeing the B&W Frankie convention doll and thought, "Wow. An entirely grayscale doll. THAT'S neat." but I figured she'd be hella-expensive, so I just didn't give it much thought. Then I saw they had a basic grayscale Frankie on Amazon for $12... and I had to have her. And, of course, since I was getting one... I got SS Draculaura and RM Lagoona, too. My unique grayscale doll had to have friends, after all!

RM Lagoona was the first one I deboxed, though... so in a way, she feels like my first. But technically, SS Frankie was the one that sucked me in XD

Anyways, I bought a couple of double packs recently not realising they don't have 2 wigs.  So I had to get some wigs for my dolls.  I am loving my werewolf, so I had to share.  I can't take photos for crap, so sorry about that, but still, what do you think??

I really like her hair! I'm still trying to figure out what to do about one of my CAM's hairlessness, but I think I might go with a wig this kind of style...

I did some looking around for you and found the Wizard of Oz set those two dolls belong to! It was an entire playset made in 2001 by Turner Entertainment Co. The playset consisted of ALL the parts of Oz: Munchkinland, the yellow brick road, the witch's castle, Emerald City, etc, all in one big unit with opening parts. It came with all of the main characters and three munchkins (10 dolls total).

So basically, it's NOT a Polly Pocket toy, but a Wizard of Oz toy done in the Polly Pocket style (basically, a copy - but with collector value, due to the subject matter). Hope that helps!

The Dollhouse / Re: When Dolls Don't Match Their Stock Photo
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:17:12 PM »
The absolute WORST for stock images not matching the reality are Bradford Exchange/Ashton Drake/Hamilton Collection/etc. You really have to search out pictures of the ACTUAL products from those companies before ever buying anything from them. Their "stock photos" are basically idealized photoshop renditions of the items - often times, celebrity dolls are infused with photos of the actual celebrities and artist dolls are basically the original paintings the doll being made is BASED on, photoshopped to look like a "doll". It's really ridiculous.

But yeah, NONE of the Concert Winx dolls are articulated, actually - not even the Bloom doll that clearly shows articulation in the stock photos. I don't understand why the company is still allowed to even USE those stock photos. They're clearly not images of the dolls they're selling.

The ski lodge and the pink compact are both vintage Polly Pockets! Ski Lodge is from 1993 and the pink compact is a Partytime Surprise from 1989 (when the line started! :D) The doll in the top of the compact isn't the one that came with that compact, nor is it one of the dolls from the ski lodge, but the image is too small for me to identify which doll it is.

I don't recognize the Wizard of Oz dolls or the Polly Pocket set on the right, because I only collect the initial compact releases of PP from 1989-1997ish. I haven't followed the line at all after that, so the playset on the right is definitely AFTER 1997 and the Wizard of Oz dolls would be, too, if they're Polly Pocket's at all. (Sorry, I know that's not too helpful!)

The mini Barbie in the third picture looks like a McDonald's Barbie to me... and the other mini Barbie might be one, as well, but I don't know for sure. I'm certain a Barbie collector will know better XD

But I'm sure on those PP compacts - very nice finds! :)

The Dollhouse / Re: CAM Mummy/Gorgon and Ice/Blob Girls

Aww, I saw this thread had a reply and since it's been quite some time since anyone posted in this thread, I thought that it meant someone had found them. I got my hopes up for nothing. :(

I really want the ice girl, so I hope they show up soon.

Aww... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to get your hopes up for nothing. I just wanted to comment on the pictures, because I hadn't seen them before. Sorry!

Oh, I've been so excited for these and now seeing them put together, they're even better than I'd hoped!!! I love that Mattel is even including plastic hair along with the wig - and both hairstyles look GREAT on the finished dolls! I'd been worried they would look tacky, but I think they actually have more spunk and personality than if Mattel had just put 2 wigs in the sets.

If anyone wants to split the mummy/gorgan set let me know. I am after the mummy girl. I would wanna keep the dress she is wearing but that's it.

I'd actually be interested in this, as I want the Gorgon without really wanting the Mummy. Unfortunately, my finances are pretty bad, so I don't know when I could afford it, even at half.

The Dollhouse / Re: Monster High CAMs 50% Off at Amazon!
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:45:42 AM »
Thanks for posting this! I need 2 more WOlf/Dragon sets and I haven't wanted to fork over the money for them XD

Oh, also rumor has it that Mattel is releasing another 'spare-parts-we-were-too-stupid-to-include' pack with Unicorn and Nocturnal limbs, Puma, Siren and Harpie torsos with limbs. :crossed fingers:

Oh, wow! I really hope this is true. I LOVE the harpie  and the siren, but I'm not going to even think about buying them if Mattel doesn't make the parts available.

I'm still mad that they STOPPED selling the additional parts for the first wave. I get that the extra torsos aren't needed any more for the starter packs, but if they're still selling the bee girl and other "add-on" sets with missing parts, they should still be selling the additional parts for them. As it is, you can no longer get them on Mattel's site and the second-hand and third-party prices are going up ridiculously.

I'm still new to MH collecting, so this is how I'm collecting for now. I plan to continue collecting that way, but I guess I'll see how it goes!

Although I already have 2 exceptions to the rule...

My current Frankie is the B&W SS one, so I feel like she doesn't count as an actual Frankie. She's more of a variant, so some day I want a Frankie with the proper coloring.

My current Ghoulia is the Roller Maze one - which I never really planned to get, as I go for the most pleasing rendition of the character (to me) and I much prefer her without the green in her hair. However, I happened to find her MIB on eBay for $5 (including shipping), so how could I resist her??

Frankie and Ghoulia aren't on my short list of characters to get for now, since I do have them (and am missing SO many others!), but I do plan on getting more traditional versions of them later! :)

LMAO!!!!! I just popped into this thread to see what was going on and I see people talking about some new dolls with animals that poop glitter and jewels... and I'm like, "Well, that's weird. It must be some weird new pet that just looks like it's doing that..."

And then I just scroll a bit down and... nearly spit my drink onto my screen when I see the NRFB doll with the "I poop jewels!" text bubble.

Best dolls ever. EVEEEEEEER.
